  4. Liew, very nice shots, especially the C130 with vortices. I don't have the chance to see its twin sister in SGN but only herself and a Marines C130H in May 2010

  6. Hi David, As a frequent visitor transiting thru KUL and LCCT, I may answer to 2 of your questions: 1) I've read on the KUL Airport website that there is a viewing mall in the main terminal. Is it any good for photographing and watching the planes? Is it likely to get hassled by authorities for taking photos here? The viewing mall (Anjung Tinjau)at KLIA is a good place for spotting aircraft taxiing or parked at gates. So far I don't have problem with the security people there but some MW members were questioned when taking photos. Watching is certainly allowed 2) Are there any decent spots to watch and photograph the planes in the LCC Terminal without getting hassled? Just wondering since I am flying Air Asia in and out of KUL. Are there any other decent, yet safe spots around the airport that are easily accessible? At LCCT, you'll have a good view of the terminal, aircraft traffic if you stay at the Tune Hotel from 5th Floor upward. You need at least a 300mm tele lens if you want to take close photos of the Air Asia fleet. Inside the terminal, after immigration formalities there is a shopping area on the 1st floor. You will find a glass door between a gift shop and a confectionary (candy)shop. This door opens into the tarmac therefore it's closed and cordoned, but you can stand close to the cordon to take photos through the clear tinted glass pane (see illustrated photos) 1/ 2/ When you proceed to the departure gate or disembark at arrival, you are not allowed to loiter or take photos in the tarmac ("airside area") but I can do it by shooting and moving quickly. There is no problem if you take photos from the covered walkways and gates or behind the mobile fences. You will surely find interesting liveries of aircraft and flight attendants 3/ 4/ 5/ Good luck to you
  7. Bravo folks for your nice photos during the MW's anniversary. I arrived from HKT to SIN 1 day late (Sun,27 June)and truly missed this joyful event. Here are a few photos taken at Changi Beach late afternoon after going to the wrong location (CBP) It was on Thursday 29 Jun, therefore I don't contact KianHong or Waiping for joint spotting. See you guys next time then. #1- The first A380SQ landing within a 2-hour photo session #2- B777-200ER British Airways #3- F27 Asialink #4 Photo from the smoking area of T1 F50ME2 RSAF rolling back to base parking after a very short flight

  12. I'll try to join you, at least for kampai since it's workday. I'll be leaving for KUL on 23/6 - HKT on 24/6 - SIN on 27/6. Sorry that I can't plan to participate to MW 5th anniversary in SIN
  13. IMO, this is a normal (landing) practice of B744 LH's pilots as I've a lot of LH smoky landing shots at VVTS (SGN) even with calm wind. The reason is to ensure that spoilers will automatically deploy and to activate the auto-brake. I think it is a lesson learnt from AF's incident when the aircraft touched down so smooth that there is not enough pressure force on the main gear to actuate the auto-brake sensors.
  14. Thanks, Liew. Very nice shots incl. the above one which was called in our air force slang "dog pissing position" when landing with strong crosswind. I surely miss this location.
  15. Some of the pics taken on my first visit to Anjung Tinjau last 9 April. I saw 1 westerner there but didn't ask whether he is a MW member. #1 Row of MH aircraft with the construction site of the new LCCT in the background #2 A330-300 MH - reg.#9M-MKC #2 B747-400 MH - reg.#9M-MPO #3 B737-400 MH reg.#9M-MMQ being refueled

  19. Prompong: Flights AF164/169 CDG-SGN-CDG and AF174/173 CDG-HAN-CDG will continue to stop at BKK till November 2010. Afterward they will be nonstop flights. This is the full media release from Air France on April 2, 2010: 6 new non-stop flights every week to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City 13 flights instead of 7 between Paris and Vietnam Air France has just signed a code-share agreement with Vietnam Airlines so that, starting 3 July 2010 its customers can fly non stop from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City three times a week. These flights will be operated by Vietnam Airlines in Boeing 777-200, under the ‘AF’ Air France flight code. They come in addition to flights Air France already operates via Bangkok to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Air France will be offering 13 instead of 7 flights a week, including 6 between Paris and Hanoi and 7 between Paris and Ho Chi Minh City. Furthermore, within the terms of this agreement, as early as winter 2010, Air France will operate a nonstop flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Paris three times a week by Boeing 747-400 then by Boeing 777-300ER. In November 2010, all flights to Vietnam will be nonstop.

  24. Prompong: Thanks for your very useful info as I'll go spotting in HKT in June. One my friend spotter was in HKT in December '09 and thanks to Jeerapan of Thailand Spotters group he had spectacular shots. See the article on Vietnam Aviation Magazine together with our VN Spotters trip to KLIA in 2009 Vietnam Photo.net BTW, I'll be in Chiang Mai on 10 to 14 April for spotting as well as enjoying the Songkran festival, do you have any recommendation on spotting locations and security? I intend to take photos from a pedestrian bridge overlooking RWY36 final approach. Best regards, Vu Loc
  25. Nice shot Liew, I'll loiter around KLIA on 9 Apr. afternoon and 14 Apr. afternoon. I'll certainly go to Anjung Tinjau for photo shooting, hope to see some MW friends during these times. A340-300 Sri Lankan at KLIA (shot aboard A321VNA)
