Managed to do some spotting from Narita's Terminal 2. Went early in the morning so the sun was not in my favour, facing the terminal (making early excuses). Terminal 1 is better for a morning session but I didn't have the time. Seems to be too white, needs more colour. A nice change of "scenery" anyway.

This is the other spot, from the rooftop of Sovreign Hotel

Did some spotting in Bali, great place for a holiday + spotting Stayed at the Patra resort. The runway view is a 5 minute walk away. AV security won't allow you to go too near though. Morning to evening sun runs parallel to runway 09 so have the whole day to take your pics. There is another spotting location, good for departures, will post next.

Not sure about AirAsia but MH715 was about 25 minutes late only on the same day. I heard the same thing, pilot shortage. Current crews working to the max.

The aircraft captain of my 7 hours delayed departure told the passengers "they have excess aircraft and crew always on standby to serve...." I am guessing poor management then if that is the case. He said the delays were due to the festive season. The caotain also went on to say that some of the blame goes to KLIA as they didn't have enough staff to refuel the plane.

Maybe a case of too many chieftains thus suffering an identity crisis.

Update: Checked FR24, OD308 just left KL 00:26. Madness! Our departure has been delayed a further 2 hours to 3.50am! I am guessing I will be avoiding OD till they get their act together. PS: Not the first time this has happened.

I have to agree, OD is bad at keeping to their departure times. Our departure from KLIA was "re-timed" or delayed by 1 hour, pilot said due to waiting for passengers from another flight. Today our departure from DPS is "re-timed" to depart 5 hours later @1.50am.

Looks like Lion Group is having trouble making a decision...

Malindo may also have a shortage of pilots.

PB is really milking 1. Purchase of 6 "second hand" airbus A330......"we'll be announcing in the near future" 2. In the market for 25 new widebodies....."we'll be announcing in the near future" Any how...I am all for the B787 but alas it looks like the least likely considering MAB's current fleet, unless Boeing can come up with a super duper offer.

I have used Shanghai Airlines 738 from Shanghai to KL. Was ok. Lack of IFE though and unfortunately they do allow the use of HP (even in airplane mode) on their flights. Country rules.

According to FR24 seems like runway 33 is in use for all the airlines. Not sure why they are not using 32L. Anyhow good photo opportunities for whoever happens to be there now.

Paris Airshow is coming up, mid June. I guess it will be around that time MAB will announce their widebody order?
