RM100mil over 3 years for PM’s private jet

Recommended Posts

KUALA LUMPUR: The government spends RM28.8 million to rent and RM 5.5 million as maintenance costs on the prime minister’s private jet for a year.

This was revealed by Minister in PM’s Department Shahidan Kassim in reply to Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming’s query during parliament session today.

From 2010, the government has spent RM86.4 million on rental of the private jet and RM16.515 million on maintenance. An additional RM 3.32 million was spent on refurbishing.

Over three years, a total of RM100.47 million was spent on the private jet.

Since 2008, on top of the private jet spending, an additional RM44.02 million was spent on the Prime Minister’s overseas travels.

Following the disclosure, Nga made comparisons with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who travels first class on Singapore Airlines and with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who travels economy class.

“The PM should follow the examples shown by these statesmen. It would be good if PM Najib flies MAS first class instead of using an exclusive private jet,” said the Taiping MP during a press conference after the session.

PM should be prudent

The DAP leader also revealed that the PM’s Department employed eight ministers and 80,000 staff which costs the government RM4 billion a year for salaries and emolument.

He stressed that since the government has been in deficit for the past 17 years and government debts are climbing to RM516.3 billion, the PM should be wise and prudent in his expenses and financial management.

The DAP leader also urged the Auditor-General to perform an audit on the Prime Minister’s Department to show greater transparency on his management and accountability in managing the ministry.

Yeah, the B747 is owned by PMB, so shd be cheaper to lease. But it will be heavy on operating costs as maintenance and fuel will kill it!

Sometimes I wonder if it is more comfortable to fly small private jet, or fly possibly the best business class in a wide-body like Singapore leaders do. They don't have any private jets (paid my the citizens), right?

Of course this is base on the assumption that most of us prefer to travel on wide-body than narrow-body.

The estimated cost of President Obama's office is USD. 1.4 Billion. Roughly, 4.5 Billion RM. http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/the-presidency-costs-taxpayers-a-lot-but-thats-not-obamas-fault/

"The DAP leader also revealed that the PM’s Department employed eight ministers and 80,000 staff which costs the government RM4 billion a year for salaries and emolument." (See above, post #1.)

President Obama presides over 315 Million people. Malaysian PM presides over about 30 Million people.

Just to let you know.

No they don't. Though they were offered SQ's A310 when the airline was phasing them out but the government politely declined.

Comlux 9H-AWK A320

From Aviationweek.com

Comlux Wins Malaysian ACJ Refurbishment
The expansion paid off this week with the announcement of CAS’s first such project, an Airbus ACJ319, for Jet Premier One, which operates the aircraft for the government of Malaysia. Work on the six-year-old aircraft involves mandatory C4 and 6 year checks and repainting, and refurbishment and revarnishing of the cabin. The aircraft will arrive at CAS in mid-June and be returned to service in late September. To fill that gap, Comlux will lease an ACJ320 to Jet Premier One.

One of those rare times where the Sg PM actually did not fly commercially. I suspect it's because all commercial flights are banned flying into DPS when the head of states are arriving.

The U.S operates on a small federal government basis, the state governments are quite independent to the federal government up to the level of laws and even law enforcements, so it's not really an apple to apple comparison.....

then again the USPS (postal services) accounts for roughly 500k of US federal government employees....

Just wishful thinking... If I am PM, I just fly in the WSO seat of the RMAF Su30MKM or FA18D :-)

Wife won't allow, since there is no seat for her. And where to put those handbags?
