IPH by air

From the NST website:

http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/nst/Wed...icle/index_html

IPOH: Perak has received offers from several airline companies to operate flights at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport here following the suspension of AirAsia flights.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali said the state government was ready to allow this if the federal government approved the requests.

He declined to name the airlines and how many there were, but said that the "secret" would be out soon.

The low-cost carrier suspended its flights from Ipoh to Senai, Johor, recently, when it was told by the Department of Civil Aviation that the runway at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport would not be extended.

AirAsia’s chief executive officer Datuk Tony Fernandes said that if the runway was not extended then it would not be able to accommodate the A320 Airbus.

Tajol Rosli said he would meet Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy soon to re-discuss the possible extension of the runway.

Sure enough, the IPH runway is long enough for the Dash-7

I am sure they still have quite a few 733 around to go to IPH with. Seems like TF is using the runway as an excuse, but the real reason behind it could well be a loss making route.

Just as what I have mentioned in the previous thread. It's merely an excuse used by TF.

Wow, several airlines offering something...???

I hope it'll be Qantas or BA, that will fly me IPH-JHB-IPH route...

hhmm, emirates also can. But it would be better Air Jamaica or VARIG from Brazil..

Damn AK, want to serve own country also has an excuse... :

Yeah, I hope CO do IAH-IPH non stop since there are a lot of American wants to spot at IPH. BA also could done the same but with a stop at MidEast and QF nonstop service. AA can do IPH-KUL-IPH routes with their retro B738 and Northwest can store their Mad Doogy at IPH. How bout Air Canada IPH-KUL nonstop with their A345?? :good:

We all think outside the box tooo much, aren't we? :pardon:

Oh okay, sorry Sing Yew, I missed out on that one.

Could do, but TF might say IPH's runway is too long for the F-50s or DHT. Another one of his excuse :D

Guys, I think when you seconded someone's opinion, it actually means you disagree with them ;)

IPH runway is really too short. I think less than 6000ft if I'm not mistaken. IPH is scary to fly into on any day. It requires special attention, only captains can do takeoffs and landings there. With all those limestone hills around, during bad weather IPH is best left unlanded.

And yes, I totally agree that AK is using this as an excuse not to fly a loss-making route.

Aircraft less than certain weights are not allowed to land at KLIA, barring special requests (dimplomatic,, emergency, etc). Therefore you won't see F50's doing the route. Maybe JHB-IPH perhaps, or ideally SZB-IPH.

Really?? then how do you explain Riau Airlines F50 flights to KUL?

I'm sure KUL wants all the traffic they can get...

Any reason why ?

Btw, is there any curfew been implemented in KLIA, or it is operating 24 hours ?

Why would KLIA not be operating 24/7? It must hell of a good reason! No residentials in proximity, all land! So no noise issues as compared to airports like Sydney and HKG CLK. :unknw:

Nowhere does it say KLIA. Melaka, yes. Taken from http://www.riau-airlines.com/route.htm. They used to have one but has since been discontinued.

I was mistaken, it's actually based on speed rather than weight. Turboprops are slower than jets who make the bulk of KLIA's traffic, thus slowing down traffic for everyone. It's not particularly critical but could cause unnecessary delays in a busy airport, especially since KLIA's on single runway operation for the next few months.

They discontinue because of their speed, would make no sense at all.......no airport turn down prop just because of their speed. Well at least AFAIK, but please correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Correct: even LHR is allowing KLM cityhopper in/out of the airport with F50 flights (to/from Rotterdam): it's a nuisance, for sure, but it's ATC's responsability to do a good seperation on final for landing between props and jets...
