AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd group chief executive officer (CEO) Bo Lingam said the three narrowbody aircraft were taken about one week ago and added into AirAsia's fleet. "We took three of their (MYAirline) aircraft from lessor AirCastle Ltd about one week ago. Deposit has been made," he told Business Times recently. MYAirlines, in a response, said it was unable to comment or verify the recent fleet movements, and it was currently in discussions with its potential investors. https://www.nst.com.my/business/corporate/2023/11/983347/airasia-confirms-taking-three-a320-aircraft-previously-flown

Finally launching int'l hub in BKI? On a side note, A320-251N 9M-RAP operated a special rescue flight last night from KMG (Kunming Changshui International Airport) to KUL to bring back 121 Malaysians plus one Indonesian caught in job offer fraud syndicate. JuliusWong 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2023 Quote SABC: AirAsia planning Kuching-Perth direct flights https://www.theborneopost.com/2023/12/01/sabc-airasia-planning-kuching-perth-direct-flights/ Sarawak Australia Business Chamber (SABC) president Rodger Chan revealed this after the airline’s chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes told them during a courtesy call in Kuala Lumpur today. “This is good news for Sarawak and Western Australia as it would enhance two ways trade, education and people to people links. “There are many similarities between Sarawak and Western Australia including both being the largest state of their respective federation, resources rich, hydrogen and green economy focus, same time zone and long standing links among others,” said Chan in a statement. Also present at the courtesy call were SABC Vice Presidents Dominic Su and Henry Chuo, its Secretary-general Jonathan Ngu and Treasurer-general Joseph Chuo. Tom/PER 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2023 22 hours ago, JuliusWong said: Resurrection of KCH-PER vv. route since Malaysia Airlines dropped it almost a decade ago. I would’ve thought Penang-Perth-Penang would be a higher priority than direct flights to KCH! Having just returned from Penang, the amount of pax that transferred onto the same connecting Scoot flight at Changi was noticeable. As a regular visitor to PG, there was plenty of Aussie tourists in Georgetown and Batu Ferringhi on this trip. Also, just out of interest what’s the current longest AK flight in terms of flight time? I think there is some political pressure from Sarawak politicians lately. They blame the lack of direct flights into KCH for their poor tourism arrivals! Penang has a big problem - insufficient airport capacity.

No wonder he has dedicated a special livery aircraft for Sabah - they came to Airasia's aid in times of need whereas others just wash their hands. Sarawak didn't offer much help to them during Covid-19 lockdown - so they will need to make decisions based on the business case.

Sarawak didn't offer much help to them during Covid-19 lockdown - so they will need to make decisions based on the business case. I think since the B733 days Sabah was the one of the very few key areas that helped them. But looking at market viability on long term the flights Ak is doing is also uncertain cause everything they're doing is just undercutting costs until the bottom barrel and hoping the volume run and auxiliary sales does the rest. MYR(something Tony has mentioned as well) is not improving and the population drive from Sabah is still very low. Foreigners like South Koreans tend to stick with their own preferable airlines. Everything is still plug and pull for now.
