KOTA BHARU 2 Nov.

- UTUSAN ONLINE

How does this happen? Anyone care to explain :)

Pilot will backtrack to the end of runway and make a 180 turn. Ideally you will, approaching the end of the runway, go as close as possible to the side and then make the turn. In this case looks like he went to the left side and then make a sharp right turn. Apparently he misjudged the position of the left main landing gear, he went too close and main landing gear departed the hard surface.

This is a relatively very common occurrence with this type of turn. Contributing factor is the narrow runway which necessitates going close to the runway edge for the turn.

Time for a turning pan

Time for parallel taxiway

Time for a new airport, with separate LCC and old school terminals :)

I'd always thought the pilot could "see" rather than feel where he's going. So many LCDs in the cockpit and none showing it live! :D

Turning pad is suffice.. parallel taxiway is a luxury at some of these airports and an excuse for cronies to make money
