Tamizi Hj Tamby 1 Report post Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) That's the strongest quake ever happen in 140 years, according to what I've seen on TV.Perhaps the airport was ordered to close down prior to the tsunami. Flights to HND and NRT were diverted elsewhere; even the MH70(KUL-NRT;B772ER) was diverted to TPE. Edited March 11, 2011 by Tamizi Hj Tamby

Denny Yen 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2011 All well on the Eastern front, thus far. Bro Sam, how's the weather at 3rd beach? Depends on the high tide and low tide time in your area. If it is low tide as the tsunami arrives - your place is safe. Japanese govt issued warningst to locals to expect a few more waves of tsunami. The aftershocks remain strong, ranging from 6.2 to 6.7. Narita and Haneda closed for take-offs and landings. Unconfirmed reports of runway buckling. Sendai airport closed for 2 weeks.

BC Tam 2 Report post Posted March 11, 2011 Sendai airport closed for 2 weeks. They can get that place operational in two weeks ?! Salute lah !
Irni Mastura 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2011 They can get that place operational in two weeks ?! Salute lah ! In some business continuity planning, especially for critical processes, 2 weeks of recovery plan can be considered too long. Most logical of 2 weeks operational recovery would be based on emergency service level e.g. they can be operational on 30% of the normal capacity basis. Denny Yen 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2011 They can get that place operational in two weeks ?! Salute lah ! The 2 weeks operational deadline is for cargo or special charters - this the priority over regular scheduled passenger flights. Sendai is the manufacturing base for semi-conductors, battery core, ICs, semi-solid/solid state materials, nano-materials, chemicals and other precision-engineered components - all vital for laptop, iPhone, iPad and other CEs. Although Chinese factories make/assemble the final product, between 30%-60% of its components come from Japanese suppliers. One can expect shortage/delays in CE products for coming weeks or months because many of these Sendai factories were either partially destroyed or fully collapsed. Therefore, in order for those factories to get online again, they need replacement machinery to be air-freighted via Sendai airport.
