KLM PH-BFA Missing one winglet at KUL

Recommended Posts

Guys,

On 25nov05 PH-BFA arrived late, due to aforementioned weather (gale-force winds), from Toronto...the same evening she departed 1.30 hours late "for technical reasons" (my personal opinion: gale-damage)...KLM decided NOT to cancel the flight, but operate without the winglet; after arriving back to AMS on 27nov, she left again for YYZ without the winglet and returned back at the base this morning at 0730am, afterwhich she was towed into Hangar 11 (I guess for attachment of winglet again)...scheduled to operate KL0691/29nov to YYZ again wink.gif

Nope, it happened in NL on 25nov05 during the gale-force winds, however, KLM opted to operate her without winglet on KL0809/25-26nov and KL0810/26-27nov + KL0691/27nov-KL0692/28nov...she's now in the Hangar and is scheduled to depart again on 29nov for another YYZ flight...

pieter, cheers for the information! by the way, did the winglet actually detach during flight or was it damaged and then removed by your colleagues in the hangar?

Azahan,

It was removed in the hangar prior to departure for KUL, hence the 1.5 delay ex AMS sad.gif

[Winglet doesn't really improve stability of the flight I believe , its just there to save some fuel and there's a rather complicated way of explaining how , but for now , take my word for it smile.gif

It will reduce induced-drag, so less fuel-consumption, to put it simple... wink.gif
