  1. Can someone please give some insights about the local aerospace academic scene (university level). I mean, what are their achievements, what and where are their graduates doing, who are the notable figures, and most importantly, how have they contributed to the Malaysian aerospace industry Thanks Teoh, Let just say that the UM Science Faculty is THE centrepoint of Universiti Malaya. And yes, I like the foods there, especially the laksa... Whenever I go down to KL, I'll try to find a way to go and meet former lecturer and friends(currently doing their MSc) at the cafeteria.
  2. Congratulation UTM. And how about the UAV project, when will it be ready? Malaysian university with Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering : UTM - 1st in Malaysia USM - Russian influence MMU - coming soon I think the leading Aerospace faculty in ASEAN is at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). They have a huge influence on Nusantara Aerospace/IPTN (Please correct me if I'm wrong) Teoh, Bring them to sample the delicious foods at Science Faculty cafeteria (provided its the same caterer during my days there)
  3. Now here is an opportunity for you engineering graduates to design an economical toilets for use in aircraft... maybe you can try to sell the idea to Boeing for their B787 or Airbus for their A350. I would be really proud to see one day when flying these aircraft to see "toilet designed and made in Malaysia" I really hope Datuk TF deosn't read this tread... or the next thing we know... we might have to pay to enter toilets on AK's A320 Talking about toilet, I notice, usually around 30-50% pax will head straight to the nearest toilet after every flight
  4. Yup, so far I also have good memories and experience when using the LCCT. And the LCCT is also have the McDonald nearest to Oscar Hotel, in case your stomach needs it during spotting!
  5. Yeah, this is Malaysia Boleh! I understand in countries like Sweden, even the Prime Minister takes the normal, ordinary shuttle bus sometimes to work. Here in Malaysia, whenever some minister travel like ordinary Malaysian, they would first ensure there are an entourage of reporters and photographers with them to make sure its on the front page of every newspaper the next day!
  6. Cool... Is the sticker up for sale... I want to buy at least 4... 1 for my car, 1 for my dad's car, 1 for my mum's car, 1 for my sister's car
  7. Congratulations MW . Hope to attent the next program together. And welcome to new members .
  8. What ever, I really hope FAX comes to Peninsular Malaysia... and operate F50 between PEN-KBR. I will be a frequent traveller then on this route. If they operate the DHC6 on this route, then I'll be more frequent as in every weekend! BTW guys, did you notice that AK will operate a KUL(LCCT) to Mulu in Sarawak starting January? Can Mulu accept B737/A320? Anyway, it will definitely boost the Mulu tourism industry further.
  9. Wow, excellence explanation by Sandeep. May I add a few. If I remember correctly, the former RMAF chief mentioned before his retirement that RMAF need to train more fighter jet pilots due to shortage because many of the experienced pilots migrated to the private sector for better pay and wages. Hence the need for additional fighter trainer, complemented by the purchase of addtional PC7 turboprop trainers as well. What the government need to do is raise the pay scale for the pilots to lessen the number of migration, especially amongst its more experienced pilots. As for refueling tankers, RMAF have also purchase 4 Airbus A400 which also comes with an option to quickly convert it into air refueling tankers, and I believe the A400 is faster that the current C130. Although Sandeep is hoping the government will go for the B737-700 Wedgetail, I believe the government will eventually go for the Embraer. This will be a political decision nonetheless. A purchase of the Embraer will strenghten Malaysia's ties with the South American nation, which is a fellow NAM member and a fellow developing country.
  10. Hi all MWers, I just knew about the event two days ago from Norman on the phone since I haven't been on MW for quite a long time. Sorry, can't visit or volunteer as I can't be in KL area this whole weekend. Anyway, good luck to all and may you all have fun and great PR for MalaysianWings. best regards, Fitri Shukri Butterworth
  11. I think SQ is the unofficial national carrier of the whole South East Asia! Its not only the airline, but on the whole, the gap between Malaysia and Singapore is widening. Singapore is progressing very far ahead of Malaysia in every aspects. Just look at the recent university rankings, NUS and NTU way far on the top amongst the world's elite universities, and Malaysian universities is going down down down.
  12. Emm, I think the factory in Malacca, a company owned by CTRM is makng components for Airbus while the one in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, a joint venture by MAS and Sime Darby is making B777 wing components for Boeing I voted NO By referring to the arguments of Capt Radzi and Azman MN. Also due to personal feeling. Yet, I still hope MH buys the B777-300ER also. I mean, can we have both?
  13. I understood the passengers were the lucky 1500 Airbus staff who were randomly selected. Yeah, just like Sandeep, I would love to see the Economy cabin of the A380, coz that is where I would most probably be seated
  14. Those who complaint of being unable to fly and seated in cramped condition for a straight 12 hours might have never been on a intercity bus (in the 1980s and 1990s) in Malaysia and in some other third world country
  15. That means the fastest/most convenient way to Cairo is by SQ! How about Beirut, is it still operating, despite the recent war?
  16. 1st photo : I think should send this photo to Nikon, maybe Emperor can be their new model 2nd photo : Baby Photographer using what lens? Tokina 80-400mm??? 3rd photo : I think after some editing, this can be an artistic photo. So no need worry about horrible light Anyway KC Sim, keep up the excellent work
  17. Woah...this photo looks like as if it was taken in-flight at 30,000 feet
  18. Wow , the pilot and crew of this MH flight must be some really brave men/women ... i wonder what they serve on board cow's blood
  19. ...and MH have been talking with SkyTeam for years...
  20. Wait till some country temporarily detain Condoleeza Rice at their airport for the same reason 'almost a terrorist' and we'll see what will happen!
  21. Liam, thanks for your info, very much appreciated. Teoh, I'm working at Butterworth. Sacrificed my lunch hour to photograph these Aadvarks.
