  1. What's wrong with narrowbody? Last year I flew EY-class both on A380 (SQ) and Embraer 145 (AA). Flying as a passenger on the Embraer with 1-2 seat configuration was much more fun than being inside the A380 which feels like being in a hall.
  2. The BKI - HND was operated by the B738, it was for a short time only before handed down to D7 during the share swap.
  3. "The airline group further maintained that MAHB is now charging higher airport taxes because it is now seeking to recover from the traveling public the cost overruns it experienced after failing to manage costs during the construction of klia2." Somehow, I agree.
  4. I am. LNM / LNP undergoing C-check. LCJ / LNW supposed to be flying.
  5. Didn't managed to do that in 2017. Neither the B734 nor the MAX was flown that year. My only aviation resolution for 2019 is to fly 900 hours or more on the B737NG. The classic is history, the MAX is nowhere to be seen yet.
  6. For those who have been with KLIA since opening day in 1998, you can see how much KLIA has been cluttered today. 1. The guardrails and dividers at the international arrival 2. The guardrail at domestic arrival. 3. The addition of shops in the middle of aisles all over the terminals 4. Removal of walkalator replaced by crooked pathway at domestic side of MTB 5. Addition of guardrails and ushers at aerotrain stations, both side. Care to add to the list?
  7. In 1983 I went to the USA with PR, transiting MNL for HNL then continued to Philadelphia on TWA flying the then-new B767.
  8. If anybody wants to fly the B737NG KUL-PER vv, the option is still there albeit not with MH.
  9. No need for IGS, can use the RNP-AR instead. For those who can't use the RNP-AR, there is always the visual approach option. Unfortunately, the problem with the ILS glideslope is real, considering that the glideslope height is 1000 ft for every nautical mile. At 5 nm (8 km) the height of the descending aircraft is only 1500 ft, not including the buffer zone. Too low for any future highrise development in Pasir Gudang.
  10. I flew a Malaysian-registered cargo aircraft to AVV in the late 1990s.
  11. In places like Europe, bad weather could mean things like fog, where nobody can land for days. Here it is most likely associated with a thunderstorm, where the real problem is not visibility but wind speed and direction. Thunderstorm normally lasts about 20 minutes; the rain will persist for a little bit longer. However, those holding for weather improvement will have to wait for their turn and whoever didn't have the holding power (aka fuel) will have to divert. Yes, that is the major problem.
  12. What approach navaids does Seletar have? Could it be that Malaysian rules prohibit a passenger airline to operate to a destination without an approach navaid?
  13. "According to the report, Muhamad Aziz claimed he had brought the money in from abroad into the UK. He also said he had initially wanted to spend the money on handbags and watches in Harrods, a department store. However, Muhamad Aziz claimed that he was unable to spend the money as he was "too tired"." Yeah right, pay cash for all those purchases. Never heard of debit/credit cards?
  14. With old MH, it was speculated that the losses could be due to inefficiencies of the company. However AirAsia is quite efficient in that department; can it be concluded that the tickets are being sold too cheaply? No matter how efficient a company is, the product needs to be sold at a sustainable price.
  15. Good for the crew, if they got to stay until the next flight.
  16. I think SZB is overrated. It close to some part of the Klang Valley, but for many others, KLIA is just as near. The road traffic to SZB can be horrendous at times. There are no flights to destinations over 2 hours away and no connections.
  17. Any idea what they are doing to my old ride in the background? Is it being scrapped?
  18. Australian air crash investigators have issued a safety warning about pre-flight inspections of pitot tubes after a Malaysia Airlines jet took off with covers still on the crucial airspeed devices despite multiple opportunities to detect them. https://www.airlineratings.com/news/investigators-issue-safety-warning-malaysia-airlines-pitot-cover-incident/
  19. Just some update. With the latest update, MH is the best paying airline for first officers in Malaysia. Junior FOs can make 18-20k per month, compared to around 10k for OD and AK. For captains, AK still is the best paying airline in Malaysia.
  20. Just watched some YouTube videos on the accident. Just can't believe that there were so many rules broken by the flight crew just prior to the crash. Or maybe there were no such rules back then? 1. I think they don't have the approach chart in front of them. Otherwise, it will be easy to see the 2400 limit rather than 400. 2. They were still hoping to see the ILS signal, which has been NOTAMed off the air. Wonder if they ever do the approach briefing. 3. That "Whoop whoop pull up" GPWS warning. It means immediate go around, no question asked. I wonder what happened to the ATC officer involved.
  21. On Thursday I saw 5 MH A330s at remote bays near MTB KUL and another 2 at the cargo area. I wonder why they were leased but not flown.
