  1. I just looked at booking flights to Helsinki from LHR next month and www.kayak.com provided some interesting MH flights operated by Finnair. MH9xxx - sorry didnt pay too much attention to the actual flight numbers as the fares were exorbitant for these MH-flight numbers but it was however goos to see MH and AY will be codesharing soon.
  2. Exactly my thoughts as there is another thread on this subject running too... Am pretty sure i was served caviar too before a few years ago... Was a little better plated than the pic mind you.. Anyhow, is the next press release going to be 'MAS to have seats that recline'..???
  3. Am sure i was served caviar and a shot of vodka in F in 2007... So what's the big deal here again??
  4. And this seems to have been confirmed by Air France with an announcement that Paris - Kuala Lumpur flight will begin April 2013.. (Reported by Jakarta Post)
  5. Question is. Are these fare paying F passengers or govt/mh peeps taking a joy ride... Sorry to spoil the party but perhaps a reality check?
  6. Except KLM/AF just inked a deal to codeshare with Etihad for services to Australia so i guess the days of MH/KL codeshares are now numbered.
  7. Happens not infrequently. I was on BA15 bound for Singapore recently and we began circling and the crew advised that we would divert north for KUL before SIN reopened so we didnt divert but turned back to a very stormy landing at Changi. I did wonder if BA would have let me off at KUL since i was then in transit for KUL... I guess not.. Cos that would have involved luggage off etc... Oh well. Would have been nice to land at KUL on Speedbird again... Not done that since BA left KL!!
  8. Before we accuse anyone of racism - presumably the passengers who were eventually offered accommodation didn't have a home to go to. Although more often a critic of MAS - I think if this was the case then their procedure isn't entirely unreasonable. If the same happened to me - i would rather go home for the 16 hours rather than sit in a hotel room..
  9. I was being rather more cynical as AJ proudly announced in the media that MAS' A380 flights were "fully booked" for months... Yea. Right.. Who's kidding whom?
  10. Isn't MAS looking for some of these A332s. Could have snapped them up and KUL-FCO or KUL-JNB-CPT been put back on the route map. MH coukd have even put it on the KUL-NRT-LAX route...
  11. Good luck but think you shouldnt have a problem.. Would be interesting to see if MH is filling their A380s like they say they are. I flew last week and the loads were light in all cabins. My mother flew a few days later and it was also half-empty so she says. This is after all high season with an additional peak with the Olympics...
  12. Losing to MH?? I highly doubt MH makes a profit on BJS... MAHB, MAS and the Malaysian Govt need to wake up and smell the coffee... Despite reports that MHs A380s are 'fully booked' from London for the next few months - to quote Ahmad Jauhari at Farnborough - i just travelled KL - LHR last week on an A380 that was less than half full with an almost empty F and sparsely occupied Business Class cabin. yes there were also babies in Business Class and toddlers in Y on the upper deck. KUL remains low yield and i cant help but feel MAS, MAHB and the govt continue to simply 'pretend' this is not the case... I'm travelling to MEL in November - seats wide open if i choose MAS. KUL-MEL currently only has 2 occupied seats on an entire A330. QF is looking busier with half their A380 already taken whilst SQ is almost FULL on all sectors even with multple A380s plying LHR-SIN and SIN-MEL... No wonder SQs balance sheets look so much better. With SQ filling up, other airlines operating into SIN will also gain as fares and demand pushes competition and profits upwards. Over at KUL, its almost as though you can hear someone fart due to the lack of competition and thus demand that Malaysia has somehow obliterated over the years.
  13. The office had always remained open despite the carriers pulling out of KUL. KL of course had been tipped to be the next destination for BA to launch but i guess with MAS A380s plying the route within OneWorld and the popularity of EK, EY and QR - IAG cannot see a business case for returning to KUL.
  14. I have been advised that the joint British Airways - Qantas office in Rohas Perkasa near KLCC will close end-June 2012. British Airways has also advised that it will employ the services of a GSA (General Sales Agent) to handle all Malaysian affairs from 1 July. Looks like BA won't be returning to KUL afterall... Googling Qantas however shows that Qantas will be moving to a new office in Menara IMC... I am however unable to confirm this information. Interestingly Cathay Pacific is located at Menara IMC..
  15. Surprised nobody here has noticed that KLM will be adding additional frequencies to KUL from Winter 2012. New flights will be operated by 747-400 Combi and 772 mix as KL811 arriving KUL at 0720 or 0735 depending on aircraft type and return departures will be at 0920 or 0950 again depending on day/aircraft type as KL812. Flights depart Amsterdam Mon, Wed and Sat. KL809/810 will continue to operate daily AMS - KUL - CGK with 777-300ER operating x4 weekly and 777-200ER x3 weekly. http://airlineroute.net/2012/05/10/kl-w12-update2
  16. Looks as though there may have been a last minute change in the plans/configuration - as why bother blocking out so many windows in F when the seats installed don't actually need to have any blocked - see KE's First (no blocked windows) as someone above has pointed out has a similar seat - although KE F does have electrically adjusted privacy walls whilst MH's F don't seem to have this function from the pictures above.. Comparing with TG's F seat - they both look the same but TG has placed the F cabin upstairs - again - so no blocked windows necessary. I would NOT be paying for any F seat on MH's A380s so i can't look out of a window - sheesh.. Usual utter rubbish so typical of MAS these days... 'Mana Ada Sistem' most definitely 'Musnah Harapan' as you may say. The only bonus for MH joining Oneworld is that Malaysians can now migrate their business over to other Oneworld carriers - and i'll certainly be one of them! Then again - why bank any mileage more mileage with MH - will just bank into CX or even QF.
  17. Note this service was operated with British Airways. Lets hope we see history repeating itself soon...
  18. Over the years - as a regular LHR-KL 'commuter' - I have had to switch to using FRA or BKK as a stopover flying either with LH or TG in order to bank mileage with Star Alliance. SQ has increasingly made it more difficult for Star Alliance passengers to connect at SIN for KUL as more flights have gradually moved over to MI on the SIN-KL leg (as Silkair is not part of Star) so in effect - to earn maximum mileage or to redeem mileage - you can only travel on SQ metal up to KL making the transit stop at Changi somewhat inconvenient as depending on the itinerary - the wait at Changi can sometimes be up to 6-8hrs. SQ's loss really (in my opinion) - I don't miss flying them and have found LH's Business Class fares very competitive with an excellent inflight product. TG service however is somewhat hit-and-miss.
  19. If I am not mistaken - the majority of these airline liveries were designed by professional marketing and design companies hence their classic and unmistakable images. Landor Associates do come up with some of the best designs - from British Airways to United/Continental to (dare I say it) Singapore Airlines. If Malaysia Airlines really wants to upgrade its image and provide some continuity to its product line - as you say its not rocket science but like most things Malaysian - i hesitate to say that I agree - with those 'Rojak' Seats and the uninspiring new paint job those A380s are going to look quite uninviting like the rest of its fleet. Whilst on the subject, with the Red and Blue lettering clashing to represent the airline name itself - perhaps this reflects the state of play within the airline itself.
  20. Will these new A333s be equipped with the same horrid seats the current ones are flying with?
  21. that is likely to be the true picture but you also need to remember that there are also tourist who travel on domestic routes...
  22. Hardly user friendly if one needs to know 'the trick'.. frankly i expect most passengers (like me) just simply give up (pressing the 'back' button). Poor IT IMO...
  23. fairly simple to fix IMO - soldier on with the 777s and add the Economy Plus cabin to reduce load numbers but at the same time gain higher yielding full-Y passengers.
  24. Try the online check-in.. i gave up as the calendar function didn't work and you had to press the 'back' button from today (going back one day at a time) to get to relevant date of birth!!
  25. Malaysia has certainly lost ground with International competition and will continue to lose traffic, income, growth, revenue and jobs, as long as the Malaysian government continues to protect (or at least be seen to protect) Malaysia Airlines. Even as the airline economy begins to recover - airlines like British Airways, Air France, ANA, Air China, United Airlines, Qantas, the list goes on, will all continue to grow and build on their markets through Singapore, as yields reaped there will always remain higher (than KL) due to the competition that already exists amongst the carriers operating through Changi. just my 2 cents...
