  1. For the morning sessions, try to be there at day break - around 7 am to catch the B77Ws and A380 arrivals. Morning arrivals will wither down to trickle after 10 am. IMHO the more interesting session will be from 3 pm onwards till sunset. For those having data roaming on your smartphones, check these pages regularly for updates: http://ttg.channelnewsasia.com/intv5/505.gif http://ttg.channelnewsasia.com/intv5/506-10-1.gif http://ttg.channelnewsasia.com/intv5/506-10-2.gif http://ttg.channelnewsasia.com/intv5/506-10-3.gif http://ttg.channelnewsasia.com/intv5/506-10-4.gif http://ttg.channelnewsasia.com/intv5/506-10-5.gif http://ttg.channelnewsasia.com/intv5/506-10-6.gif http://ttg.channelnewsasia.com/intv5/506-10-7.gif These are teletext pages on TV containing arrival flight information. You may also want to check out the flight stats page to note the traffic movements in order not to miss it. What may be interesting to you may not be so for the local spotters.... So plan you meal / break time accordingly. Food is about 10 minutes away (brisk walking) by foot. Allow for 40 minutes for a quick bit. Sunblock, hats and water are all necessary to avoid be a dehydrated lobster :-) There is minimal shade for the morning session, though you may run in and out of shelter under the coconut trees for the afternoon session.
  2. It not a joke....as you rightly pointed out, it not considered an extremely rare occurrence to see a QFA bird in KUL. I don't have the actual stats but it frequent enough to cause minor irritation. If one diverts if you are short of holding fuel we can understand but on T/Storm reports despite of updated reportings of weather improvement......that's puzzling...at first. The response to queries is quite short and sweet: Company policy.
  3. You're right Captain. QF has a company policy is to divert there if there is any indication of thunderstorm at the destination - a hangover from that near disaster at Don Muang. Apparently there was a mention of TS in the ATIS that morning, but AFAIK the vis then was about 2 clicks. As you are aware, the ATIS is updated every half and hour and may not be real time or 100% accurate at you are at the wrong end of the 1/2 hr..... Still QF has diverted previously despite all the attempts at re-assurance...this one is no different ...haha. All other aircraft landed routinely during that period. Maybe the whale wanted a taste of Malaysian sunshine
  4. Hi all, It is runway 20 season, so stress free spotting from the Changi beach for mornings and afternoons. Enjoy folks! I am sorry but there is a very high probability that I will be outstation during that particular weekend. So barring any last minute change of dates of my working trip, I won't be attending this year's anniversary. Cheers! Kwek
  5. Aiyoh.....wasted. Please let me know what I missed....:-( Too late do anything about it. I got news that some of the bases will host Open house too.... anyone has the confirmed dates?
  6. Please post if anyone knows if the MiG-29s or SU-27s will be at Subang for the TUDM 52nd anniversary. It would be nice to see the MiG-29s again. Thank you.
  7. Time to visit Subang :-)
  8. There are five A345s (9VSGA-E) in SQ's fleet.
  9. The Cessna 172Rs entered the registry in March. So Seletar spotters look out for 9V-FCG, FCH, FCI, FCJ and FCK. Cheers!
  10. It's Easter weekend. Sometimes the works may be cancelled or postponed due to holidays. Look out for NOTAMS these couple of days and hope for the best.
  11. Congratulations Captain TK! It's so nice to have some many "camera man" capturing the defining moments in your flying career isn't it?? Priceless photos I say. Well done folks!!
  12. KC, It is confirmed that the titles on 9M-AMM were indeed "Syarikat Pernerbangan MALAYSIA". I checked the photos of 9M-AMM, 9M-AML and 9M-AMN in that same livery (they are from the same source on ebay). And in another photo of 9M-AMJ in this similar livery but on the starboard side, the titles are in English: MALAYSIAN Airways. Kwek
  13. Thanks Faridz for the close-up side profile of Strikie in SADC colours......got a couple of Aeroclub 1/48th scale kits in the stash waiting. I plan to do a later marking that uses the Ying-yang instead of the roundels. Does anyone have a clear shot of camo on the wing please? TIA
  14. YK, Yes, the IL-86 and DC-8 are bonus for me, plus the yellow Australian registered Catalina. How's the crowd situation in the afternoon, when the sun's good for runway action, unlike the morning. Ashmil, I was not at Cobra Gold...so no pictures from me but there are pictures in military forums on the net :-)
  15. There was indeed a Mini Malaysian Wings gathering. At least 10 members here (including the photographer). And multiple nationalities too - Thais, Malaysians, Dutch and Singaporeans. (the other guy is German). This was on Saturday afternoon, the first public day of the airshow. Chaity, Yong and Wilson had already left for the airport by the time we got to the Changi Business Park, otherwise there would have been more. and with "weapons" drawn....
  16. Nice pictures! Thanks sharing and keep them coming..... I like the Strikemaster formation - the first bird is painted in Singapore Air Defence Command (predecessor of RSAF) markings
  17. That's for the public day show on Saturday only. I will be there, so will Pieter. That flypast is the reward for squeezing with 60,000 people on public day...
  18. I will be very surprised if the PC-21 join the final line-up for the flying display. Normally the display needs to be performed and approved before "qualifying" for the flying display. To date, there is no sign of her in any of the practices AFAIK. Nice pics Hoe Jyh and Kian Hong (were you at Carkpark 5 beach or show site?) Xtemujim: There was a late change in the line-up for the flypast - not that we are complaining.. My vote for Star of the show goes to the F-111. A-10 would have won it if she was permitted to fire her guns.
  19. Coming up soon, - need time to ensure sedikit kualiti.
  20. Greg, Please look elsewhere. The pictures are not for you. Kwek
  21. Cessna 337 (103 Sqn) I have always been facinated by this unique pull-push propeller aircraft. Finally I get see it AND to seat in the cockpit!
