  1. I'll be connecting in MYY in July and i only have 1 Hr25 Min between my 2 flights. My flight from KUL will get in at 0940 (AK5254) and I leave for KCH at 1105 (AK5933). I will be checking in bags. I suppose I have to clear CIQ since i'm entering Sarawak. My question is whether there is enough time to make it in time for check in for my flight to KCH. Since my KUL-MYY flight is the first one out I suppose there should not be any delays leaving KUL. Thanks
  2. Truth to be told, KCH is more of an O&D destination than anything else. It's going to take a lot of demand to induce any carrier to operate anything larger than the 737/A320. There's the ATR to wait for though...
  3. I guess I can kiss goodbye to my chances of flying a 733 on AK then. Thanks for the replies so far.
  4. Price... Although at RM77 with taxes for JHB-KUL I might just book myself on MH for once.
  5. Well, too much of the same thing makes flying on AK boring. I've only flown 2 733 flights in my life, one AK and one FD. On the other hand, i've had more than 15 A320 flights for the yr 2007 alone. As an enthusiast I feel it is apt to fly on something which is going to disappear very soon over something which I have flown on many times before and will fly on many more occasions in the future. Besides, I have something against the A320 family. Haha
  6. I have 2 AK flights coming up in July which are scheduled to be operated out of the KCH base and I just want to know when will KCH start receiving A320s. Basically i'm trying to avoid the A320s whenever I can but with JHB having all A320s already, it's getting more and more difficult. 7-Jul-08 AIR ASIA 5933 MYY-KCH 7-Jul-08 AIR ASIA 5709 KCH-JHB Thanks
  7. Profile changed. Didn't realise my settings were not set for public viewing though. Haha
  8. Just a question about MYY. Is it possible to stay overnight at the airport?
  9. Trip to Sarawak to fly the Twin Otter.. JUL 06 2008 AK5702 JHB-KCH JUL 06 2008 MH3411 KCH-MKM JUL 06 2008 MH3558 MKM-MYY JUL 07 2008 AK5933 MYY-KCH JUL 07 2008 AK5709 KCH-JHB TOTAL = RM 391.15 I can't wait for July to come round
  10. I know CX, SQ, TR and I think TG and 3K do enforce it which has led me to think that it is an Asian thing because I have not been asked to keep the window shades up on any non-Asian carrier. Flight attendants use the window or porthole on the door itself to assess the situation before opening the door in an emergency and not the pax windows. The only case where pax windows are used is on aircraft whose emergency exits do not have windows or portholes such as the CRJ, F50, Dash8.
  11. This rule does not really apply to all airlines. It really depends on the SOP of the airline in question with regards to whether the window shades have to be open for landing. While some airlines enforce this rule such as AK. Most airlines do not. This is particularly true outside Asia where most airlines do not insist that window shades be left in the open position. Here are some pics of planes on TO or landing with window shades closed.
  12. The Gimli Glider C-GAUN has just been retired last month so i guess it would not be classified as "still flying".
  13. Favourite carrier - Swiss Intl Air Lines Favourite carrier (LCC) - Air Berlin, Southwest Favourite Aircraft - EMB 170/190, B747-200Combi
  14. I'm assuming that on some they are the same and for some they are not. After all the lavs don't have their own air supply system which is cut off from the rest of the cabin. Moreover most lavs i've been to smell no different from the cabin
  15. I'm not sure about MH but if the air freshener comes in the form of a sponge stuck on the wall in the lav you can probably ask for one. If it's an aerosol then it's probably going to be harder. I sneaked air freshener sponges off UA and CX lavs before (yes i know.. it's sick) and trust me, you will never want them in a closed room. The UA one was really pungent and my room smelled like an aircraft lav until i finally put it in a ziplock bag. The CX one on the other hand smelt quite pleasant. I have a few air fresheners from a PK flight last yr though. If anyone wants them I am most willing to give them away. They smell no different from the bluish things meant to be put in the cistern. Btw, they are brand new and still have their protective coverings on.

  17. AK is probably more exciting than TR anyway. Haha. Apart from the assigned seating TR offers i'll choose AK over TR anyday
  18. Bus from JHB to Kotaraya II Terminal (op by Handal Imdah) = RM8 one way Bus from Kotaraya to Queen Street Singapore (op by SBSTransit Singapore service no. 170)= RM1.80 Bus from Kotaraya to Kranji MRT Singapore (op by SBSTransit Singapore service no. 160 or 170) = RM 1.30 Bus from Kotaraya to Kranji MRT Singapore (op by Handal Imdah service no. CW1) = RM 1.30 These might help http://www.handalindah.com.my/fleets.php http://www.sbstransit.com.sg/journeyplan/r...UEEN%20ST%20TER You can also take a cab from Kotaraya taxi stand to Queen Street for RM40 for the entire cab or RM10 per pax if you are willing to share with other pax. For a private taxi from Kotarays direct to any destination of your choice in Singapore the cost is 35SGD per cab for a max of 4 pax, no sharing with strangers allowed. Crossing the causeway especially on Saturdays by public bus can be extremely difficult though.. especially if you are carrying bags. On taxi the traffic will be equally bad but at least you dont have to lug your bags through customs. The bus is practically deserted on weekdays as long as you donttravel in the morning or in the late evening. It's now at Terminal 3 after the opening yesterday... Still easily accessible though.
  19. From my experience it depends a lot on the nationality of the capt. American and European capts are generally more receptive to such requests as compared to their Asian counterparts. Australians are just as bad as Asians from my experiences with them. I have never failed (save for 1 flight on Republic Airways) to have my data sheet filled up and my flight log signed on a US or Europe based carrier. On Asian carriers, it's the opposite. AK pilots generally do entertain such requests but MAY turn them down due to lack of time on short turnarounds but on the whole they are light years away from their western counterparts in terms of accepting flight deck visits or signing logsheets.

But my main purpose of doing this joyride is to get a chance on both the F50 and twin otters. Can anybody tell me if the twin otters are still flying with D7? I can't seem to find any flights on the twin otters on the website. I am based in SIN so JHB is my best bet to fly out from. Also, I have an overnight connection in BKI.
