Shock as man forcibly removed from overbooked United Airlines flight
jahur replied to Mike P's topic in General Aviation
Another Passenger Complains Of Mistreatment By United Airlines Geoff Fearns said the first-class ticket he held did not stop him from getting threatened and removed from the plane earlier this month. “I think this is appalling that you’re throwing me off of my seat. She said if you don’t leave voluntarily, we’ll summon security and have you escorted off the plane,” Fearns recalled. He bought a $1,000 ticket so he could get home a day sooner from Kauai. Despite arriving an hour early and boarding, a United employee suddenly demanded that he get off the plane because it was overbooked, according to Fearns. “She said: ‘We have a priority list, and you’re at the bottom of it.’ The guy sitting next to me, who’s apparently a United frequent flyer, said: ‘Hey man! They get really nasty about this stuff. They’ll call the cops on you.’ And I’m like – for what? For sitting in my assigned seat?” Fearns questioned. Guess that last minute passenger had MileagePlus or Star Alliance gold that dictate the other passenger already on his seat to be demoted to Economy? -

Unfortunately airlines do have such rights it depends on how they manage the situation. I believe most airlines in Asia would put the crew on next available flight without bumping off passengers. Flights that the repositioned crew operate would likely be retimed to meet their corrected reporting hours and avoiding compensating passengers for delays. Unfortunately in the US most of the flights are pretty full and the route network is vast to do major retiming. -

CNN reported the vietnamese man and his wife initially accepted the booting however when he was notified that the next available flight would only on the next day in the afternoon he got upset and refused to dissembark then the incident followed. Overbooking except urgent immediate employees were slot into the flight instead of higher tier passengers for this case. -

AFAIK jumpseats access to non duty staffs or even tech crew has been restricted recently by MAS and TG not sure about United tho. Might be the reason why no jumpseat is offerred to the 4 crew. Wouldn't rule out that maybe the jumpseat is already occupied by another cockpit crew/ or pilot instructor. -

I would still call it as overbooking. Duty staffs travel should be put on next available flight(As in flights that actually have empty seats). Suspect the staffs were sent last minute as usually check in would have already blocked those seats and moved the passengers many hours before the flight itself. Moneywise The airline thinks that offloading low tier pax is more cost saving than delaying and retiming the next flight due to late staff arrival. Now with this fiasco they might reconsider as public Image is more important IMO. -

Looks like its the operational requirement that requires miles redemption/low fare/late check in pax to be offloaded bullshit again. Its a good thing overbooking hardly occurs in hotels and resorts but it is very rampant in the airline industry. -
Its a good thing Airasia went with the CFM instead.

i think it is more towards the foreign crew are not used to our climate where bright sunny day turns into depressed thunderstorm in the evening. In cold temperate country the air is dry cold and cloudy all day. And if weather is bad they would just cancel training sessions. -

One of osprey pilots stationed in Japan told our ground handling in bki "weather in malaysia is f#cked up compared to 4season airports." Heard the USAF gave the same type of feedback during their joint exercise with RMAF. -

There times those deep clouds that should be magenta in color on weather radar do not show up on radar. Sudden microburst on approach to minimums or on the runway that are unrecoverable. There are some pilots that would hold until weather dies down. Then there are some that would go n attempt a landing successfully and telling atc that landing for other flights is no issue. I believe no landing should be attempted in any circumstances even if visibility permits then again airlines would get pissed doing logistics for diversion and delays for weather avoidance. Then there's super budgeted management pilots that go nimble every cost saving measure that bores nuisance to operation. Cruise higher on such short sector cutting other slower traffic queue on approach, descending below profile to cut queue, list goes on and very common in overseas Lcc airlines it is creeping in to our local aviation. -

Definitely weather playing a role. Been Raining very heavily in bki like buckets of thick water thrown into the car screen these past few days and other parts of sarawak and sarawak when it should be dry season(climate change?). -
Friend just flew with them. Service is on OD level minus Business class products and perks. Seats on economy very tight some rows are at 28seat pitch way below Airasia. Loads on both flights were quite low as well due to fare cost.

Malindo is expanding near the threshold, lack of Fo as many are still clearing sim and line plus many new planes are coming in but they are deployed in tight rotation that tech issues or delay will leave wide network disruption due to rapid expansion.
-
Loads are uneven most of time i took od from kul-bki it is hardly ever full and no proper meals after they dump the meal onboard purchase.

Probably ran out of hotel rooms at their partner hotel in auckland. But still it is the airlines responsibility to provide alternative accommodation especially when dealing with a country that holds good emphasis on consumer protection.

mas needs the extra range but not the extra capacity for long haul. Should be near 280ish seats. -

Would think the 787-9 would be the better candidate. If his aiming for 777-300er it will be heavy and probably more redundant than the a380. -

Bellew mentioned countless time at townhall that the a330 will be strictly PW. -

Get some interim a333s nothing more. Long term fleet they should plan for proper planes maybe the b787-9 or b777x if they plan to tap back to europe. -
Uk is following suit now.

Airports' & Airlines' Operational Statistics

MKZ grew quite a lot in 2015 when OD open up but many of the routes lack load. The only route i think MKZ can survive on is Pekan Baru most of them are here for medical tourism. Penang on the other hand needs strong marketing, many of the locals in melaka do not know that there is direct flight to penang and kota bharu(Back then)
