  1. believed if there's a "New" privatlsed MAS, air asia shd have at least a 30% stake in MAS and its expertise in how to operationally run a airline. Doubt MAS will code share with SIA partner SIA or even allow SIA to buy into MH for obvious political reasons.
  2. Why is Air Asia X "order for 50 A330neo" is only an MOU - not a firm order?
  3. yes the main thing is that one can get the 330neo faster - bec its still a derivative of the 330 and involves much less testing than it would be for a completely new designed plane. But its not as efficient as the 787 and is a like a current fit. For airlines, once they chose and buy a new aircraft, that plane is going to fly for the next 15 years at least. The 330neo would be more or less obsolete in a short few years time when newly designed and efficient aircrafts are built over the next decade.
  4. that's a lot of cancelled flights - altho AK doesn't seem to have reduce that many flights as MH
  5. Airbus says that its new 330neo will be cheaper and has 70% capability of the 787 although less technologically advanced as the 787. But would tend to agree that it may cannibalise its own A350 sales.
  6. Not sure if Lion air is too overly ambitious as it bought a lot of new planes and am not sure how these few hundred planes will be financed, and its safety record is still not good considering it already have a few incidents with its new 738s and even one completely wrote off.
  7. yes so far all 3 aircraft landing and skidding off runway was due to thnderstorm heavy rain and windy conditions - even though it maybe within near the max aircraft's landing parameters, but pilots' skills and competency is another thing. It would have been better to divert or circle till weather improves provided they have enough fuel for holding. AK must instill more of safety culture and must not discipline pilots who chose to divert in marginal weather conditions. Believed only the first incident where one of AK earlier 737-300 had a nose wheel collapse too.
  8. the main question is whether Klia2 is an airport or a shopping mall? At least the design could be better and that is when arriving at the airport and checking in - the checking in airline counters should be the first thing the passenger see and will allow the passengers to check in for his flight first - before going through the long maze of shops and eateries. It should not be what it is at present where one have to walk through the shops for a good 10 to 15 mins before one arrives at the check in counters.
  9. the new KLIA2 is a much welcomed airport with its aerobridges and air conditioned concourses. Having tried KLIA2 on 3 occasions departing and arriving from international destinations, the main gripe is the long walk from the gate to the immigration will take easily 12 to 15 mins on a normal walking pace, and then after clearing immigration, its another 15 mins more of walking to the car pick up point or to the taxi stands. One is "forced to walk through the web of shopping and eateries. The main question for MAHB is - whtehr KLIA2 is designed as a airport or a shopping mall? For the business traveller and those who just want to get on and off the plane as quickly as possible, then its disappoint as a airport.
  10. yes there must be something wrong somewhere if ground vehicles can hit into an aircraft so soon after the last incident. All ground vehicles should have clear guidelines when driving inside the aircraft parking apron.
  11. well perhaps EK's CEO didn't see what the Acting transport minister said as the military radar deemed that plane was "non hostile" and further he added that to the effect that what for if the air force sent the sukhois to intercept the plane as it does not want to shoot down the plane. There you have it. But such explanation is simply.....don't know what to say coming from a minister.
  12. Yes an A320 can land in Bandung - as Air Asia Indon flies from SIN to Bandung using the A320 and loads are generally above 70%
  13. and if indeed he knows about this and asked the military to keep an eye on it - then why waste 4 days searching the south china sea off vietnam forthe plane's debris???? " The saga of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 took a new turn yesterday following latest revelations that the Malaysian military had been told to keep an eye on the plane but had allowed it to disappear off their radar after considering it as non-hostile. The new revelation was made by acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein during an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corp's Four Corners programme. This was the first time that Malaysia had said that civil aviation authorities told the military to keep an eye on the aircraft – a fact which was not mentioned in the five-page preliminary report on the plane's disappearance released by the Ministry of Transport on May 1. The much-criticised preliminary report had made no mention of the instructions from the civil aviation authorities to the military to monitor the plane........."
  14. sigh - another spin story by acting transport minister - and we wonder why the international media are saying our govt handling of this issue is a disaster.
  15. well its started agaibn and Acting transport minister said that they are going to review all data again - " KUALA LUMPUR: Military radar and satellite data from countries in the region will be requested again by the investigation team as the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 enters phase two. Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the investigation team would review all the data received from all international agencies, including data given by Inmarsat." and interestingly he even said this " “If our airforce had scrambled its jets, what would have happened? Would we shoot down our own passenger plane if we sent up the Sukhois?” Hishammuddin asked." Seriously, sending up the air force planes means to "shoot down the plane???? What is he talking about or use this silly excuse for not ending up the fighter planes?? The main and major fact is that if the RMAF did send out its planes to verify then they would know for sure where the plane is heading and what it is doing!! And as nothing was even mentioned about whether the RMAF did ieven try to call MH370 and asked why its diverting too says that something is amiss as they did not even try or attempt to establish contact with MH370.
  16. irs good for AK to have introduced this passport checks - but just like many who will be wondering when AK will impose a fee for this or has it been hidden under its taxes and surcharges.
  17. MAS have already lost a few hundred million in the last quarter even before MH370 incident - and hence its 1st quarter result will be a bigger loss in addition to MH370 incident - would guess its losses would be anywhere from rm350 million to rm450 million
  18. MAS Unions are very strong and entrenched. Unless the govt can talk sense and sensibility into these unions, it will be very hard to have a reboot for any effective change.
  19. doubt there will be a serious real change or reboot - its going to be a lot more talk on this but nothing else. If there's a reboot, it would have happened few years ago.
  20. The real danger is the price of this PE ticket and the proposed design and layout of the seatings, as SQ J class is much higher than other airlines, there will even be a likely migration from its biz class to PE.
  21. well for one thing - if MAHB didn't charge AK for this small fee, then actually AK should not charge its pax. Wonder if Tiger air or Malindo added this rm3 in? Its not about the nominal fee of rm3 which am sure all including myself will gladly pay - the question is whether it is right for AK ti impose this fee and even make a small profit out of it from every pax.
  22. belived for this nominal rm3 charge by AK - that AK still makes more from it than just what MAHB or the use of the SITA system charged to AK. Like the use of aerobridge is at rm80 and if we divide it by 180 pax for an A320 - it works out to be only 44.5 cents per pax and don't think the use of SITA and paper would costs AK rm2. Even if based on 150 pax on a A320, the use of aerobridge costs only 53 cents per pax. Hence AK even have hike a ringgit or two to this and end up being rm3. If that's the case, then AK is not so right in making more than 100% from this marginal cost imposed by MAHB.
  23. actually MAHB says it costs only rm80 for a A320 to use the aerobridge
  24. Tiger really needs a true blue business or corporate man to run the airline - and not anyone from the govt-linked/owned company like the recently outgoing CEO from NOL. And its incoming CEO from SIA will I believe not really be able to do much - partly bec he has been mainstream legacy carrier SIA for too long - and this is totally different from running a LCC and highly competitive nature of it.
