Eva used to do Taipei-Singapore-Penang-Singapore-Taipei everyday in the past, and they stopped for a few years not long after 9/11, and I learned that they are doing Taipei-Penang-Taipei now, a few times a week... Yes, I think the difference is between American and British, and as many term differences, there are minor differences in which the terms apply to. In essence, the terms in comparison mean the same thing; only the description varies. Sorry, but an instance for a similar situation escapes me at the moment. Perhaps, "apartment" and "flat"?
