KLIA1's growth is of course driven mainly by Malindo's move from KLIA2, though overall KLIA has had quite impressive YoY growth.

Always need to remember that all this is coming from a time when MAS is struggling. Numbers will be much better hopefully once their expansion is truly full force.

AirAsia X's 2Q operating performance above expectations

KUALA LUMPUR (July 25): AirAsia X Bhd's operating performance in the second quarter of 2017 (2Q17) trended slightly above expectations despite the period historically being the leanest in any given year, the group said today.

The company continues to stimulate demand to fill up additional capacity injected in 2Q17 by achieving a marked improvement in passenger load factor (PLF) of 80%, up 5 percentage points (ppts) year-on-year (y-o-y), in line with the 26% y-o-y growth in available seat per kilometers (ASK) to 8.45 billion in 2Q17, said AirAsia X in a statement today.

During the quarter under review, AirAsia X Malaysia added frequency to two routes: Kuala Lumpur-Shanghai and Osaka.

AirAsia X Malaysia also added Honolulu to its network during the quarter under review, the airline's maiden service to the US, the group said.

"No new aircraft was added into AirAsia X Malaysia in 2Q17, hence, the fleet size stood at 22 A330s," said AirAsia X.

AirAsia Group Q2 load factor higher at 88%

KUALA LUMPUR: Low-cost carrier AirAsia Group saw its load factor climb three percentage points to 88% in the second quarter ended June 30, 2017, boosted by strong demand for air travel as it expanded its routes and frequencies.

It said on Thursday the total number of passengers carried increased 14% year-on-year to 15.81 million, more than the 11% increase in capacity.

At the end of the quarter under review, the group’s total fleet size stood at 178 aircraft (180 including two aircraft delivered to AirAsia Japan but yet to commence operation).

“AirAsia Berhad consolidated (AOCs) achieved a load factor of 89%, up by two percentage points from the same period last year. Strong demand for air travel helped the number of passengers carried increase 10% year-on-year to 9.61 million, more than the 8% increase in capacity,” it said.

Interesting indeed that KUL is ahead of BKK. Probably due to the methodology used to determine ranking.
