New from the MH Rumour Department!

MH is seriously considering BDO (Bandung, Indonesia) and WILL FLY TO HND (Tokyo Haneda)!!!

That HND news is a surprise. I thought D7 has taken all the slots (2) alloted by the Japanese government to Malaysia? Is Malaysia negotiating extra slots for MH or MH (through the Malaysian government) is going to snatch the slots that D7 has been eying and made press statement about?

If so, someone is going to hit the roof and beyond :D

Actually 7 slots were given, MAS got 3, Air Asia got 3 and Transmile got 1. However it seems AirAsia is asking for the last slot to be given to them rather than Transmile.

No smoke without fire. Unless there is a last minute change by the top management, believe your rumour is as accurate as CNN can be :good:

Competition benefits the consumers, and the aviation and related industry, Congratulation to MH :good: :clapping: Hope MH is more receptive to competition.

Speaking of new destinations, weren't they also suggesting a 2nd destination in New Zealand? I believe that will be Christchurch.

Still not bookable online today. Not just the IT dept, it involves the advertising agency, management's agility etc. Don't you just wanna shout "WAKE UP!!" at them? The tardiness of the management in this fast-paced world, akin to dinosaur on the brink of extinction..

Without knowledge of your accurate 'rumour', most online self-book customers will be oblivious to this route and business will flow to the only competitor plying this route. I just....

Malaysia Airlines to fly daily to Seoul

Malaysia Airlines will be expanding its operations in Korea by introducing daily services between Kuala Lumpur and Seoul starting November 15.

The flight will depart Kuala Lumpur everyday at 11.30pm to arrive in Seoul at 7.10am. Tickets are now available for purchase at www.malaysiaairlines.com

Malaysia Airlines senior GM commercial strategy, Dr Amin Khan said: “With the travel demand picking up, it is a good time to boost our services to Seoul. Our load factor is strong at about 90 per cent, some 10 per cent higher compared to the same period last year.

“The daily service will also complement our codeshare with Korean Airlines. It will provide business and leisure travelers more flexibility and choice while positively impacting traffic between Kuala Lumpur and Seoul.

“Passengers often want to have a great service with affordable rates. It is a testament to our quality of service and worldwide connection, that we are offering daily flight to Seoul. If passengers are looking for value, they should definitely fly with us,” he added.

I find it rather interesting that AK did not make any noise at all with regards to this BDO intrusion of MH. We all know that KUL-BDO is one of the route that AK developed and I think it is one of their best performing route throughout their entire network, much to the contrary with the ICN and SYD incident on the reverse order with D7.

On the other hand, in this article http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2010/6/12/business/6453187&sec=business MH spesifically mentioned,

Azmil admits that the B737-800 makes destinations like Xian, Dakka, Cheju Island and every city in Japan a possibility.

Sorry for the typo.

It is actually MH859 KUL - BDO

But it wonders me, usually KUL departures will show even numbers and KUL arrivals will show odd numbers. But for BDO case it is vice versa.

Outbound journey Detail

MH859 Sat, 17 Jul

Economy

Departure Kuala Lumpur 13:30

Arrival Bandung 14:40

Inbound journey Detail

MH858 Mon, 19 Jul

Economy

Departure Bandung 15:40

Arrival Kuala Lumpur 18:50

Any explanation?

If they do, it will sort of weaken their case, won't it? They always maintain that MH and AK/QZ have different markets. They also said that they welcome competition, from MH or anyone else.

A good example is KUL-MFM. AK had a good run there and MH tried to follow. But MH could not sustain that route as most travellers prefer to use AK.

So, lets wait and see if MH can perform on the KUL-BDO route...

I can imagine MH would do fine on this route. Their real competition will be GA. Hopefully that's how MH looks at it.

No Flight Cancellation To Manila, Says Malaysia Airlines

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines confirmed that there are no flight cancellation to Manila, the Philippines, so far due to Typhoon Conson which lashed the city late Tuesday.

Its director of operations, Captain Mohamed Azharuddin Osman, said to ensure that customers could get to Manila, the airline had upgraded the aircraft bound for the Philippines Wednesday morning to a B747 with a seating capacity of 359.

"The flight, MH704, departed Kuala Lumpur at 10.33am and arrived in Manila at 2.21pm. There were 40 customers in the business class and 299 in economy. As the weather is now clear, flights to the Philippines continue to operate as per schedule," he said in a statement issued to Bernama Wednesday.

He added that only one flight, flight MH802, which was scheduled to depart at 1.40pm yesterday, was cancelled due to the typhoon.

The Manila International Airport Authority was reported as saying that 63 flights, including four international, have been cancelled and nine were diverted to the central Philippine international airport since late Tuesday.

The typhoon, which was the first to hit the country this year, has resulted in power failure in almost the whole of Manila and it is expected to prolong up to four days.

Low-cost carrier AirAsia Bhd said in a separate statement that there would be no cancellation in flights to the city via the Clark International Airport.

AirAsia has daily return flights between Kuala Lumpur and Clark and between Kota Kinabalu and Clark.

Wow, sounds like a good load for a 747 on a regional route. Did MH pick up pax from cancelled flights of other carriers?

Sorry, not ASEAN, but close enough.

Malaysia Airline's new flight boost for city

MALAYSIA Airlines will all but double its direct flights to Adelaide next March, in what tourism industry leaders say is a major fillip for the city.

Airline chairman Munir bin Abdul Majid has told the aifCity Messenger aif the company will increase its in-bound flights to Adelaide from four times a week to at least six, with the aim of offering daily flights by the end of 2011.

The news comes just weeks after the City Council and SA Tourism Commission endorsed a “City of Adelaide Action Plan”, which lists extra direct flights as a key driver for attracting more visitors to town. Mr Majid was in town last week for the Asian Studies Association of Australia Conference. He said Adelaide’s wine regions and lush city Parklands were a drawcard for Malaysian tourists, while South-East Asia was also becoming more popular with the state’s ageing population.

“South Australia is a bit quaint, it’s the garden state, the pretty state and there’s so much space and freshness here,” he said.

“When I saw the River Torrens and the green around it, people looked so happy.”

“And then you have all these cultural offerings there’s the Convention Centre, the (Festival) theatre and then on the other side the museum and art gallery.”

SA Tourism Commission acting chief executive Jo Podoliak said the increase in direct flights would help make Adelaide more “cost competitive” as a holiday destination, and more attractive for international visitors.

Australian Hotels Association SA general manager Ian Horne said it was “great news” for city businesses.

“We’re not a major gateway, we’re not Sydney, Melbourne or Perth, so it’s a great endorsement of SA’s product.”

‘It will ensure the current stock of accommodation like the new Crowne Plaza is not only viable but they prosper.”

Council applauds plan

TOWN Hall has welcomed Malaysia Airline’s plan to bring direct daily flights to Adelaide, saying it will raise the profile of the state and help SA compete with Australia’s more popular destinations.

Lord Mayor Michael Harbison - who is now in Malaysia as part of the World Heritage celebrations for Adelaide’s Sister City George Town in Penang - said the extra flights would significantly boost tourist numbers to the city.

“This is great news for South Australia as airline infrastructure and capacity makes a huge difference for trade and tourism,” he said from Penang.

City councillor Francis Wong, a chaperone for Mr Majid during his three-night stay, said it was “fantastic” to get the executive in town for the first time.

As for the extra flights, Cr Wong said: “It will not only benefit tourism and international relations but it will enrich SA because Adelaide is a gateway to the state.

“Without international airlines our state cannot prosper.”

Lack of international flights into and out of ADL, will make daily flights doable. SQ has been doing ADL-SIN daily since one or two years ago. Pity, MH is only doing it 4x weekly.
