Chan CS 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 First of all I must say sorry to MOD if you think this topic do not need to create a new thread, as really nothing much to be shared, just a few photos. You may combine this with other topic if you wish. I was back to KK and I went Keningau last Sunday, and found the small airport there. Just a few photos taken as the gate was actually locked, sorry for the quality of the photo though. Airport Sign, also "Steak House and Karaoke Lounge". Overview of the airport terminal And I presume this is the runway? Sorry I can't go inside, this is just a guess Chan

Radzi 2 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 I've heard about the Keningau airstrip. Not sure if it is still active. Maybe occassionally visited by heicopters? BTW, how long is the drive from KK to Keningau? How do you get there? Maybe I should take a drive there someday.
Chan CS 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 BTW, how long is the drive from KK to Keningau? How do you get there? Maybe I should take a drive there someday. I'm not too sure how long it takes driving from KK to Keningau(sorry I forgot), more or less 2 hours if not mistaken if you use new road. And it will be like 3 hours or so if you use old road. BC Tam 2 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 If memory serves me right, and my info was correct to start with ...... MH used to serve Keningau with the BN2's (not sure if the Twin Otters ever made it there) - back in the days when roads (or road?) to Sabah's interior were much worse off than they are nowadays. I don't think the route will prove too viable if anyone is even willing to give it a go (FAX, Firefly, anyone ?! ) And Chan, I think that is an access road to the building - the runway itself should be the grassy strip further beyond

Ya... The grassy strip was what I referred to the "runway", not the road itself... Hehe... Sorry...Anyway, thanks for your history details! I think by the time I still not born yet! come on ...........is tat a airport or a restaurant with a theme of airport???is there any airport at keningau....seems neva heard of it b4 ........ As refered to HERE, it can be classified as a airport, not sure whether it's true or not. But now maybe it's a restaurant with a theme... Haha... Rozhan 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 (edited) Based on my small vintage Wings of Gold collection, Keningau was on the domestic route map in the October 1987, Feb, June, Aug and Nov 1988 issues i.e. KK-Keningau-KK only. By the May 1990 issue, the route has been dropped. So I guess the route was still active towards the late 1980s. Flight distance Kota Kinabalu - Keningau is 36 nm / 66km. By the way, other 'exotic' routes then were Pamol, Temanggong, Semporna, Long Sukang, Long Pasia, Long Semadon, Kapit and Belaga Edited July 4, 2007 by Rozhan

Fitri Shukri 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 Thanks for the photos of Keningau ex airport. It is not far from the main road Tambunan-Keningau-Tenom right? Radzi, I think Keningau is 3 hours from KK if you take the 'old' road, through Tambunan.
Chan CS 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 Louis, I'm afraid the restaurant do not open that frequent, as by the time I was there the gate was closed. Fitri, the airport is just by roadside if you're going from Tambunan to Keningau, there is a roundabout before you can actually see the sign.

The karaoke used to be quite popular then. and the road from KK to keningau is quite a winding adventure. almost 3 hours though. Up the mountain then down again at Tambunan.
