I thought the ELB activates only upon hitting water?

 

Attached to the CVR & FDR is an ULB - underwater locating beacon. Only transmits when in contact with water.

 

The ELT works both underwater & on ground.

I guess it was smashed up im the crash...

The impact was a high speed one and judging from the very small debris and human remains left behind, the plane was pulverized upon impact.

Compacted. All items that are hard enough would have been embedded into the mountain. Perhaps this caused the delay in the locating of the crucial boxes.

 

And after this incident, having a two pilot cockpit policy sounds assuring.

The visa application and custom form for entry into the US is even more silly... it will ask you whether you are intending to conduct acts of terrorist attack in the US. Are they expecting people to tick it? Talk about silliness...
