Cathay Pacific New Regional Business Class

Recommended Posts

There is no mention of the new Regional Business Class seat pitch. The current regional Business Class all has a seat pitch of 45". Based on the picture above, the seat pitch seems to be around 45"-50".

This CX's new Regional Business Class is sub-par compared to SQ's or even TG's. For a moment i thought they have a changed of mind and decided to go fixed shell seat for their recently introduced Premium Economy seat.

Doesn't look like it can recline flat...

It can't go flat, not even angled lie-flat. It's a cradle seat but with a fixed seat-back. This is actually a new product by one of the major seat manufacturers but i can't remember which one it is already. Saw it a few weeks ago and all i remember is that the suggested seat pitch is somewhere around 43"-45". So it is unlikely that CX is increasing the seat pitch in their Regional Business Class cabin.

According to Australian Business Traveller, the seat pitch for this new Regional Business Class is 47", a far cry compared to SQ's new Regional Business Class (60"). Even SQ's old Ultimo cradle business class seat that still can be found on their 2-class 772 has wider seat pitch at 50".

OMG. What were CX thinking with this one?! Epic FAIL!! I can't believe a new CX product looks so much worse compared to MH.

14x A330-300

12x B777-300

5x B777-200

out of 110 aircraft in their active passenger fleet will get this Recaro made Regional Business Class. Currently the long-haul 333, 343, 744 and 77W are scheduled to operate many regional flights too. Consider yourself unlucky if your flight is operated by the regional configured aircraft.

Looks aren't everything - the new MH A333 J seats are rock hard.

The angled lie-flat C seats on MH new 333 are made by Recaro, and so is this new CX new Regional Business Class seat.

CX's definition of 'regional' is within 5 hrs flying radius. Therefore, flat seat is not necessary. However, MAS uses this kind of seat to fly up to 9 hrs flying radius whereas CX uses the award winning flat seat business class for anything more than 5 hours except to a couple of mid-east destinations.

These new seats will be fitted to light weight A333, B777-200A/300A and the first few heavy weight A333 which are still fitted with 1st/2nd generation products (some of which are similar to old MAS A330).

Actually, CX's regional 333, 772 and 773 all had regular schedule service to the Middle East as well as PER in Australia up till a year or so ago. However, PER is now served with the long-haul 333. And if I'm not mistaken, all the Middle-east service is now all on the long-haul aircraft too.

Cathay Pacific subsidiary Dragonair is to adopt its parent company’s new regional business class and long-haul economy seats, with the first A330 featuring the new seating from this March.

As flagged up on our forum and confirmed on Dragonair’s website today, the carrier is to refit its aircraft with the same regional business class product recently unveiled by Cathay Pacific.

Dragonair’s widebody aircraft will benefit from an increased seat pitch (from 45 inches to 47 inches), while its narrow body aircraft will see the pitch increase from 42 to 45 inches. Seat width will also increase from 21 to 22 inches on all aircraft types.

Features include electronic controls for recline and legrest, a 21.1-inch TV screen universal power supply, USB port and iPhone connection.

The new economy seat will be the same as Cathay’s long-haul economy offering unveiled in late 2011, and featuring an increased width, “more personal storage space”, nine-inch touchscreen TVs, and USB / iPhone ports.

Both seats will also feature the new Studio on-demand in-flight entertainment system, with over 100 films, 500 TV programmes, nearly 900 music albums and over 20 radio channels.

In addition Dragonair said it will revamp its in-flight meal service ware in both economy and business class from March.

The carrier said that adopting Cathay’s seating products “on the majority of Dragonair’s aircraft” would “create a more consistent and harmonious inflight experience for passengers connecting between the two airlines through the Hong Kong hub”.

Not all good news though. 3x of their 333 feature a different kind of Business Class with 62" of seat pitch...

Anyway, i wondered if they will change the First Class seat that they normally deploy to Shanghai and Beijing.

This is making KA very in line with CX's very own product offering, there's talk that KA might be adopting CX's livery in the future. Could this be true? Would love to see some A320's & A321's in CX colours!

Hope that will not happen ever! The dragon tail is distinctive and red is something very Chinese that goes well with Dragonair's biggest market (China). I also hope both companies will be managed separately as it is now for many more decades to come.

Reminds me of D7's very old non-recline seats.
