Aircraft 9.5 years old on incident date. Will probably be repaired.

Narrative:

A Boeing 767-381ER passenger plane, JA610A, sustained substantial damage in a hard landing accident at Tokyo-Narita Airport (NRT), Japan.

All Nippon flight NH956 was arriving from Beijing, China, when it made a hard landing on runway 16R in strong gusty cross winds. The airplane touched down on its right hand main landing gear, after which it bounced back up. The nose landing gear than contacted the runway at considerable force. The nose bounced back up and the airplane touched down on its main wheels, followed by the nose landing gear.

The flight taxied to the gate and it appeared the airplane had sustained severe wrinking of the the forward fuselage

At the time of the accident wind shear had been reported at the airport.

It's just lucky that it didn't end up as similar fate to Federal Express flight 80, also in Narita in 2009. (Flight originated from China as well!)

An ANA All Nippon Airways Boeing 767-300, from Beijing (China) to Tokyo Narita (Japan) with 193 people on board, touched down on Narita Airport's runway 16R, bounced off and touched down a second time nose gear first before the aircraft settled on the runway at about 13:30L (04:30Z), rolled out and taxied to the apron. No injuries occurred, the aircraft received substantial damage.

 

A first post flight examination revealed the fuselage skin received numerous serious creases just ahead of the wing root all around the circumference.

 

Japan's TSB confirmed the aircraft received substantial damage and opened an investigation into the accident.

Rough landing indeed! Very similar to the Fed Ex MD-11 landing that ended up crashing. Those passengers should count themselves very lucky.

How come few flights from China ended like this (well not exactly) but you know what I mean like British Airways B772ER... Hhmmmm.

The ANA flight landed under very windy conditions, as did the FedEx MD-11F. Many are of the opinion that they should have done a TOGA instead of trying to land.

Wrinkles can be err ............... arranged, though not necessarily in 1:400 in strict sense :)

Dunno about the differing regn numbers though
