Recommended Posts

Batik Air is receiving their third 739 but Malindo still waiting for theirs.. Obviously Pak Rusdi wanted Malindo to focus on establishing the ATR fleet first..

An airline owned by Indonesia's Lion Group today announced it will launch international services with a flight from Jakarta to Singapore later this year.
Batik Air, which is part of the Lion Group that also owns Indonesian budget carrier Lion Air, will start the flights by November or December, said its chief executive Achmad Luthfie.
The airline, which operates as a full-service carrier with meals and drinks and offers business and economy class seating, began operations in May last year servicing domestic destinations in Indonesia.
"Our first international destination will be Singapore and we aim to have more than a daily service on the route," Luthfie said in a statement.
"We chose Singapore as our first international destination because we can see that demand continues to increase," he added.
Speaking at a news conference in Singapore, Luthfie said Batik Air plans to fly next from the Indonesian capital to Kuala Lumpur.

Lion Air's Batik Air plans major domestic push followed by ambitious international expansion

Lion Air full-service subsidiary Batik Air is aiming to expand into the international market in late 2014 and operate several international routes from four Indonesian gateways by the end of 2015. The international expansion follows an initial domestic focus; 22 of the 23 routes to be operated by Batik by the end 2014 will be domestic.

The international expansion is expected to start in 4Q2014 with Jakarta-Singapore service, followed by Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur in early 2015. Batik plans to also launch international flights by the end of 2015 from Bali, Batam and Makassar as China, Hong Kong and Australia are gradually added to its network.

The Batik international expansion plan is ambitious and will face several challenges. Competition will be fierce while traffic rights, slots and approvals from foreign regulators could prove elusive in some of the targeted markets. Batik has an unknown brand overseas, which will make it hard to sustain its 90% domestic load factor as it spreads its wings.

An average load factor of 90% for Batik Air! That's very good. Unfortunately its cousin, Malindoair seems to be having a real hard time now :(

How is Malindo doing now? East Malaysia market remained KCH and BKI with reduced frequencies and SBW is set to close soon...

How many new planes are they going to take this year? Anyone has any idea?

For OD, I believe that they're not interested much in the domestic sector, more on international. They acquired the planes first before getting the approval of flying international and utilised those planes for domestic flight to earn some quick money.

They still need a basic domestic network to feed the international one. So, they are just testing the market before deciding on which are the best domestic routes they need to keep.

It looks like OD is operating only 2 flights a day to BKI and 1-2 flights a day to KCH in April.

Anyway, quite a few friends have taken Malindoair and they all liked it. The only thing they did not like is the frequent flight time change.

Agreed. I think they will definitely keep BKI and KCH. Previously they said they have plan to set up a base at BKI to fly to North Asia.

Yesterday (27 Feb), Batik Air had a press conference in Singapore and announced that CGK-KUL flights will begin either Feb or Mar 2015. It also plans to launch Batam-Hong Kong flights (as part of its Batam hub initiative). Also being planned are Denpasar-Perth and Denpasar-Brisbane flights. CGK-SIN flights will begin in November or December 2014.

Six A320s and four B737-800s will join the fleet starting July 2014.
