Azuddin 1 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 (edited) hehehe, beat you by 2 minutes OK, 2 minutes it is. post was edited, need more info bro. Anyway Naim, Qantas stands for "Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited" Azuddin Edited March 3, 2006 by Azuddin
Rozhan 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 liam and i were talking about this awhile back according to him its a stylised 'air' on one side and 'asia' on the other Thanks for the clarification Fendy. I had initially thought it was a stylized hibiscus, like Azuddin had said, but could not really 'see' the hibiscus (perhaps only the inner part of the flower but not the petals) Surprise that it means Air Asia, with the twists and turns of the logo. Naim 6 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 OK, 2 minutes it is. post was edited, need more info bro. Azuddin 1 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Yup, full name was Qantas Empire Airways, with first logo: They had the majestic kangaroo right from day 1. .ny QF is one of the oldest airline in the world, the third oldest if i'm not mistaken. I know KLM and Avianca is some of the top 5 oldest. Azuddin
TW Teo 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 liam and i were talking about this awhile back according to him its a stylised 'air' on one side and 'asia' on the other The patterns on both sides look identical. It's more likely to be a hibiscus stamen.

Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 some other meaning i know Northwest = because it's based in Minneapolis which is on the northwest of USA. Minneapolis is not the NW of USA, but rather the midwest...I would consider Seattle, or even better, Alaska as the north-western part of the USA...
Azuddin 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2006 Minneapolis is not the NW of USA, but rather the midwest...I would consider Seattle, or even better, Alaska as the north-western part of the USA... AMS is also in northwest, maybe it can be consider as one of NWA hub . i know the real reason. Azuddin

S V Choong 4 Report post Posted March 4, 2006 I must admit that the new Air Asia livery (the inverted version) on the A320 looks pretty good. One of the best I reckon. Vietnam Airlines' new livery is also amongst my favourite.

Seth K 3 Report post Posted March 4, 2006 I don't really like the new UA color, it just looks simple and yet not stunning to me. The old one is much exclusive. Well, in Europe, I love the Austrian logo. Transmile is fine too.....

Azuddin 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2006 Fendy, nice one. never thought of the painter sliped about the new UA Seth, i'm not really into it either. i prefer the early 1990 color, the white plane with orange and blue stripe, very retro. the new color is for to fix their reputation after 9/11. NWA use the new color to save painting cost and performane, so the plane is lighter. Azuddin
Naim 6 Report post Posted March 4, 2006 i dont know, i dont see the 'air' 'asia' thing either, just sharing personally i still think the painter slipped and they left it that way In ancient times, I used to work at Hicom Bhd at the time Air Asia was born (I still remember the Boeing and Airbus salesfolks, plus others, making a beeline to our office). The former PM wanted the name Pacific Eagle for the new airline, but was not available for some reason. In fact the ori logo has the eagle motif. So Air Asia was instead adopted. .ny
Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted March 4, 2006 KLM stands for "Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij", which means Royal Aviation Company in english. some story i heard about it was it's based for Royal Air Force, not sure how later turned in Royal Dutch Airline. Need more info about his Peiter, I'm not really informative about my heritage airline. Azuddin, The Royal Netherlands Air Force is "Koninklijke Luchtmacht"...also here, you see no Dutch or Netherlands in the official translation...I guess, KLM decided already long time ago to add Dutch to it's English "name" to really show they're from the Netherlands, and it became "Royal Dutch Airlines" instead of "aviation company"...have you ever heard of the "Flying Dutchman" legend ? it's also still shown on the KLM aircraft
Naim 6 Report post Posted March 4, 2006 Azuddin, ... "Flying Dutchman" legend ? it's also still shown on the KLM aircraft Yeah, Pieter, what's with this Flying Dutchman thingy? I've seen the Flying Irishman, tho'. .ny

H Azmal 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2006 Yeah, Pieter, what's with this Flying Dutchman thingy? I've seen the Flying Irishman, tho'. .ny This comes to my mind whenever anyone mentions that name (Flying Dutchman). According to wikipedia though, Flying Dutchman was the frequent flyer program of KLM prior to its merger with Air France. Eh?
