Malaysia Airlines flies back into the black in Q3

Recommended Posts

PETALING JAYA, Nov 25 — National flag carrier Malaysia Airlines reported RM233 million in profit today for the third quarter of this year following a RM535 million loss in the second quarter.

The results are also an improvement over the RM300 million loss during the same period last year.

The airline said that the improved results were due to a 15 per cent increase in revenue.

“We managed to increase passenger load factors and yield due to aggressive domestic and global sales campaigns, competitive pricing coupled with the economic recovery in Asia Pacific,” said Malaysia Airlines CEO Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin.

And on another note..

AirAsia posts 152% jump in Q3 profit

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia on Thursday said net profit jumped 151.6 per cent in the third quarter as passenger demand picked up.

Southeast Asia's largest budget airline by fleet size said net profit for the July-to-September quarter rose to RM327.29 million (US$62.89 million) from RM130.07 million in same period last year.

'Our route connectivity and flight frequency within the (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region is unmatched and we will continue to ensure that it will stay this way,' airline founder and group CEO Tony Fernandes said in a statement.

'We have created a strong affinity with the people in the region thanks to our strong brand,' he said.

Mr Fernandes said that despite the quarter being traditionally weak due to the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan there was a 12.0 per cent increase in passenger numbers to 4.0 million in the third.

'We are heading into our strongest quarter on the back of what is already an amazing performance this year. We are looking forward to deliver the numbers for (the fourth quarter), actually,' he added. -- AFP

Nothing special: most major airlines made a profit for Q3...

Congratulations to both, nonetheless... :pardon:

that's good news for MH. Where do they stand for the year-to-date total so far? They should make a pretty big profit for Q4. On my recent travels to London, Business class was full on the KUL-LHR and LHR-KUL sectors and at least 75% full on the SYD-KUL and KUL-SYD sectors.
