Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 METAR: EHAM 251025Z 22011KT 3500 -DZ BR OVC007 05/04 Q1027 TEMPO 2500 Wind could not have been a factor, although cloud-base (again) rather low... At least 20 people now taken away by ambulances, and 50 'walked-away'...
Hakan 2 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 Pieter, now I watched on TV (in all tv stations even BBC, CNN) of the news. big chance ,there is no flame as you said that. Some of turkish eyewithness says their opinion but they are not trustable according for me. they says Weather conditions are in limits but on the pictures seems at least more then 1000mts , so it is normal visibility for EHAM in this session. I don't think so Turkish Airlines pilots makes mistakes about "be short" while approach , especially for like as EHAM airport which is needed maximum constantration during approach.forcely possible, it seems a fuel or engine problems. If the plane broke 3 parts , it should be hard stuck on the ground but there is no flame! so it should be low fuel or fuel mistakes! I don't care about TV stations news, I'll waiting your excatly correct news,
LeeCH 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 METAR: EHAM 251025Z 22011KT 3500 -DZ BR OVC007 05/04 Q1027 TEMPO 2500 Wind could not have been a factor, although cloud-base (again) rather low... 700 feet is gaining visibility from about 2.5 miles runway end. And with 2500m VIS can be a bit tricky. But AMS is a good airport with great ALS. Is the B738 CAT II approved?
Hakan 2 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 All of them Lee, Istanbul is hub for THY as you know and Istanbul has been certified CATII couple of yeras ago. On otherhand, THY is flies too many airports which has low visibility category in europe especially,London, Manchester,Milan, Vienna etc. So all planes and pilots are certified CATII also CATIIIC
