Pieter, now I watched on TV (in all tv stations even BBC, CNN) of the news. big chance ,there is no flame as you said that. Some of turkish eyewithness says their opinion but they are not trustable according for me. they says Weather conditions are in limits but on the pictures seems at least more then 1000mts , so it is normal visibility for EHAM in this session.

I don't think so Turkish Airlines pilots makes mistakes about "be short" while approach , especially for like as EHAM airport which is needed maximum constantration during approach.forcely possible, it seems a fuel or engine problems. If the plane broke 3 parts , it should be hard stuck on the ground but there is no flame! so it should be low fuel or fuel mistakes!

I don't care about TV stations news, I'll waiting your excatly correct news,

700 feet is gaining visibility from about 2.5 miles runway end. And with 2500m VIS can be a bit tricky. But AMS is a good airport with great ALS. Is the B738 CAT II approved?

All of them Lee, Istanbul is hub for THY as you know and Istanbul has been certified CATII couple of yeras ago. On otherhand, THY is flies too many airports which has low visibility category in europe especially,London, Manchester,Milan, Vienna etc. So all planes and pilots are certified CATII also CATIIIC

from an eyewithness who are survived from crashed airplane;

"there wasn't any emergency announce. everything looks fine, suddenly airplane lost altitude , it was seems like airpocket. pilot opened full thrust immediatly, we understood something wrong and weird at that time, shorlt after rear of the plane stuck on the ground"

windshear? a sudden drop in altitude, pilot kicks up the throttle but it was too late. Plane slams the ground.

Glad that everyone's safe!
