Naim 6 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) Yesterday morning, at the departure gates of MEL International Terminal, I had a 2nd encounter with the A380 (the first was when the plane came on a promotional flight to KUL in Nov, 2005). I notice a rather unusually large plane beyond the glass panes of Gate 9 at Melbourne International, so I move closer. Sure enough there's The Whale! It's Hudson Fysh, operating as QF93, nonstop MEL-LAX. A couple of pilots do the walk-around. Large-ish Trent 972 engine. Sorry, not large-ish, but HUGE! The corner of my eyes catches my own plane back to KUL - AirAsia X's 9M-XXA coming to Gate 5. Passengers are still not in a hurry to board. Close-up of the office. Ready for departure as the aerobridges pull away. > TO BE CONTINUED Edited February 19, 2009 by Naim

S V Choong 4 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Gate 9 at Melbourne's Tullamarine airport is always the spot for A380. I saw an QF A380 taxiing into the gate while I was boarding my SQ flight to SIN. Too bad, I couldn't snap a pic of her as I will miss my flight. I hope I get to fly EK's A380 and Boeing 777-200LR on my next flight to AKL from SYD! Thought you said you won't make a stop at MEL, doctor? Did you get to Melbourne's CBD? Naim 6 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Thought you said you won't make a stop at MEL, doctor? Did you get to Melbourne's CBD? Just a 3-hr layover from SYD this time. Would have loved to visit Melbourne, was last there 10 yrs ago!
S V Choong 4 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 (edited) Here is my encouter with VH-OQC at Singapore T1 on 28 December 2008. She was heading back to Sydney as QF6002, a special flight for training I heard. That is before QF started the SYD-SIN-LHR route. VH-OQC Paul McGinness Thank you to the CAAS staffs who allowed me into the restricted passenger waiting area to snap this pic. Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 She was heading back to Sydney as QF6002, a special flight for training I heard. That is before QF started the SYD-SIN-LHR route. This wasn't her delivery-flight ex TLS ?
S V Choong 4 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 This wasn't her delivery-flight ex TLS ? Yes Pieter, I think you are right. It was indeed VH-OQC's delivery flight from TLS to Sydney via Singapore. Shouldn't have relied on CAAS' staff for info. Judging from the photo below, she was still in TLS on 21 Dec 2008. It is quite plausible that it is indeed a delivery flight I saw in SIN. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Qantas/Airb...-842/1454267/M/
