Another great summer weekend over at Heathrow. Wasn't actually thinking of going spotting but ended up going the end Was there at around 4 something til 6 ish. This time around, I actually found fellow spotters, which was great! Some had bazookas and lots of different tools, and I feel so small with my Sony DSC-H5. What is QR? Emirates?

I tried looking for Sept 15 - Sept 30, returned RM3,6K booking class Q

I was just checking on MAS' fares from KUL - LHR and found out that it's gotten really cheap! The lowest (Q booking class) is just RM3.6K plus taxes, this makes them same with SQ's LHR flight! Anyone know if this is new?

I have heard this one before, is it the same one? Kinda scary...last week was actor/showbiz Mohsin died in front of the Air Asia counter :S

You are right, Naim. In that perspective, here in the UK , for 9 pounds, you can get a CD. A Nikon D50? 500 pounds. But in Malaysia, to get a D50 for 500 ringgit? never! So if you are a fresh grad and earn 2K pounds, you can buy a D50 with your first paycheque. But for a Malaysian grad? It'll probaby take few months (or years la!) So the spending power of Ringgit is really really low

Question: If you had your way, which area will you focus to improve? What are the ideas that you think might work for MAS? And also what areas that you think MH needs to step up in? Let’s have a discussion and try to compile our own version of the Business Transformation. We may not know what is the real picture, or the constraints that exist, but let’s put one down and have a good discussion for the sake of our national flag bearer. For me, one of the most important things in this industry is branding, apart from services. I think we do excel in the service category, many have been praising about the service they have received flying with MAS. But why hasn’t this yield in profits? How strong is our brand name? I believe flying is all about branding and this leads to frequent flyer program that one would really want to be associated with. I can't help but to look at how well the KrisFlyer is doing for Singapore Airlines. A quick hop to Flyertalk under the KF section, you can see all these 'die-hard' fans who sing praises of SQ even though they are foreigners. Some are fanatic enough to record all their safety videos!!! Not sure if this thread is going anywhere, but let’s try! What do YOU think?

Air Asia given rights for Xiamen and Shenzen flights PUTRAJAYA: Air Asia has been given the rights to fly to Xiamen and Shenzen in China from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy said it was the budget carrier’s first two destinations in China’s mainland. It now flies twice daily to Macau. Chan said it was up to Air Asia to decide on the flight schedules. He said it was part of the Government's plan to increase the number of weekly passenger flights to mainland China from the current 72 to 100 by the end of the year. “Now there are 72 passenger flights and eight cargo flights every week to various destinations in China," he said after receiving outgoing Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Wang Chungui who bade him farewell at his office. “The Transport Ministry will work with the Ministry of Civil Aviation of China to push for more flights between both countries,” he said, adding that flights to Hong Kong and Macau stood at 42 and 14 a week respectively. Chan added that air links played a crucial role in boosting tourism that had much room for improvement. He said Malaysia and China had enjoyed good bilateral relations in the fields of maritime, aviation and land transportation. “In the field of maritime our close cooperation saw Port Klang having a sister port in Port of Ningbo while China’s biggest shipping company has made Kuala Lumpur its Southeast Asian regional office. “We also worked closely in the enhancement of security and safety of the Straits of Malacca,” he said. Wang said Malaysia was important as it was the first country to acknowledge that China was not a threat to the world. Malaysia was also the first to introduce China as a dialogue partner with Asean. “Malaysia is also the first to host the 10+3 and the East Asia Summit,” he said, adding that both Governments understood each other well.

Glad to hear that it's only domestic flights...phew! So I guess my plan to head to HKG in Sept via MH will still stand! No AirAsia...please!

6 dead, 2 injured in skydiver plane crash in eastern Missouri Sullivan (US), July 30. (AP): A small plane carrying skydivers crashed shortly after takeoff, killing six people on board and injuring two others, authorities and witnesses have said. Early reports yesterday indicated the plane may have struck a telephone pole before hitting a tree, Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke said. It crashed about three metres from a house. Four people were dead at the scene and two more died at St John's Mercy Hospital in Creve Couer, hosital spokesman David Downs said. One of the injured was in critical condition and one was in serious condition, Downs said. No one on the ground was reported injured, Toelke said. "People on the ground said they saw something happen to the engine, and the plane sort of entered into a nosedive," Toelke said. The victims had not been identified, but some were believed to have been from the St Louis area. The plane, a DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, had taken off from the Sullivan Regional Airport in eastern Missouri a short time before the crash, said patrol operator Ken Tretter. The plane was making a skydiving flight for Quantum Leap Skydiving Inc, said Mark Lacy, safety and training adviser for the company, which is located in Sullivan. There were eight people aboard, he said. The victims included Scott Cowan, who along with his brother Jim, owned Quantum Leap Skydiving Inc. The Sullivan-based company's plane took off about 2 p.m. Saturday and crashed moments later. Scott Cowan was piloting the plane, officials said. The Cowan brothers had more than 13,000 jumps between them, and both were members of the U.S. Parachute Team that won four world championships and several national skydiving championships since 1990, according to the company's Web site. Cowan, 42, and three passengers died at the scene. Two died later Saturday in a St. Louis hospital, where two others were still hospitalized Sunday. Quantum Leap's Web site says the Cowan brothers had been involved in skydiving since childhood. Several people affiliated with the company declined interview requests but said the company had a good safety record. In an 1994 interview in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Scott Cowan said, "There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving. It's just the feeling of flying."

Pieter, I think I got my runways all wrong hehe... Let me just reiterate my story...at first the planes were landing on Runway 27R, departing on Runway 09R...then it switched and planes started to line up at Runway 27R, and take off at 09L...! The line-up shots were something new to me, I was quite excited, but I had to peek between the gates...and my zoom was maxed out (12x!)...and there were times I saw police cars zooming by so I had to be cautious... Thanks Ibrahim, Raj, Walter and Norman, glad you guys like it. Can't wait for the next session. Sunny weather please....
