  1. I think the government only realised we are far behind BKK & SIN in 90s, and the importance of building KUL as a main hub for foreign airlines. We once have the biggest airport in the region in the 70s (Subang) but we have lost the oppurtunity to attract new airliners or even maintain the airlines that serves KUL particularly during 1980s. When the government wanted to develop KUL as a main hub in the region in late 90s, it was just too late and we were too far behind BKK & SIN as most of the airlines have already established their hub in these airports, and many passengers use to transit there because of more connections as well as frequencies. My opinion is that the government is somehow acts a bit slow.... We are at least 20 years behind them...
  2. Now my friend is telling me he may think twice to fly with MAS as it may tell you one day : "we have to compromise with the safety because our company is losing money !"
  3. Maybe CI & BR will have flying Colgate & Darlie if president Cheng become the CEO one day
  4. like CI, boring stuff..... Apart from MAS A380, it seems like its quite difficult for KUL to get new generation aircraft such as A380, B787, B748, A350 in the next XXX years....
  5. Which airline will send A380 to KUL ? EK ? LH ? Any thoughts ?
  6. NEWS Project To Upgrade Airport Gives Priority To National Interest April 11, 2006 21:00 PM By Newmond Tibin KOTA KINABALU, April 11 (Bernama) -- The project to expand and upgrade the Kota Kinabalu International Airport is a project of national interest and will symbolise Sabah's success. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the project would enable more aircraft including bigger ones to land and bring more tourists from international destinations, not merely to benefit a fraction of the community. "The Sabah people in general will enjoy the spillovers, either directly or otherwise, besides the hotel and service sectors. "When there are more foreign tourists, the market for local handicraft products will expand, the travel industry and homestay activity will also flourish," he told Bernama here Tuesday. Operators of transport services like taxis and boats, tour guides and restaurant owners would surely gain from the economic cake made bigger by the airport expansion, he said. Sabah, known as the Land Below the Wind, has many interesting tourist destinations like the Kinabalu Park and Poring Hotspring in Ranau, Sepilok and Selingan in Sandakan, Sempang Mengayau in Kudat and Sungai Padas in Beaufort, besides the islands in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park in the state capital. Sabah Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce president Datuk Ahmad Ali Lope Abdul Aziz said these areas would benefit economically from the state government's decision to expand the second busiest airport in the country after the KL International Airport in Sepang. He said according to plan, the runway would be lengthened from 2.9 km to 3.8 km by reclaiming the sea at the tip of the existing runway known as Sri Tanjung. The main terminal building will be able to accommodate four Boeing 747s, one Airbus 330s, seven Boeing 737s, three Fokker 50s and three Dornier aircraft at the same time compared to only one Boeing 747, one Airbus 330, four Boeing 737, four Fokker 50s and two Dorniers presently. The build-up of space of the terminal building will also be expanded from 25,487 sq m to 79,000 sq m, hence doubling its capacity to nine million passengers annually from about four million currently. Ahmad Ali said the project would also involve the construction of a new low-cost carrier terminal. "The upgrading and expansion of the airport emphasizes national interest and takes into consideration the needs and interests of the future generation. "It will not only change the image of Kota Kinabalu as the main entry point to Sabah but more importantly as a symbol of transformation of Sabah's development from being lagged far behind due to political conflicts," he said. All people should be proactive in realising this development agenda planned by the government for the benefit of the people and "not by diverting it, let alone going against it for any excuse," he said Fokus Jadi Sdn Bhd director Salman Nurillah said: "If there are difficulties that need to be resolved, there are ways to channel views and find the best solution. "Emotions should not be let to rule. The interests of a few should not stand in the way of national interest." "We need to look at the airport expansion project in a wider and comprehensive perspective because it is a national interest project," he said. Salman said the government should not backtrack because doing so would not benefit the people. The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) has found that the state government had acted reasonably when it decided to relocate half of over 2,000 Sri Tanjung squatters in Putatan to an area near Kampung Maang, Penampang to make way for the airport expansion project. Suhakam commissioner Datuk Prof Hamdan Adnan yesterday said the area near Kampung Maang would clearly be used as a resettlement area and the land aquisition by the government should not be disputed. On the protest by Kampung Maang residents over the relocation, Prof Hamdan said they had the right to voice their concern but the issue they had raised on the presence of illegal immigrants in the Sri Tanjung squatter area was a separate one that would be tackled by the authorities inclding the police and Registration Department. "The Sabah government has given its assurance that only local citizens will move to the area near Kampung Maang, so there is nothing to be worried about," he said. -- BERNAMA KE may fly in more B744 in future Btw, does BKI really need a new LCCT ?
  7. A friend of mine took a flight from KUL to SYD with MAS few days a ago. When he checked in at KLIA, he was told that his luggage was 25+ kg and need to pay RM300+ fine. My friend told the groundstaff that before he has no problem with this range of weight and this was the first time he was fine for such a little excess baggage. The groundstaff told my friend MAS is losing RM300 million and they need to recover that ! Oh ! How can the groundstaff tell customer that they want to fine customer because of the company is losing money ! Indeed my friend did not mind if the staff told him this was because of the more strict regulation etc.. I just hope that with the turn around plan, MAS will not lose his loyal customers....

  22. Transmile says RMAF (air force) In addition, he said, AirAsia behaved like a village taxi which only commenced its journey when it had a full load and was not tied down with social responsibilities like MAS. He was supported by Datuk Mahadzir Mohd Khir (BN-Sungai Petani) who said AirAsia was not like MAS which had social responsibilities as a national carrier. "I am worried that AirAsia, if it runs into cashflow problem, will collude with Singapore and ask the latter to take over our domestic routes as the company only seeks profits," he said.>> RMAF will do the job
