  1. Is that a HUD I see???
  2. Keith, thanks for the pics mate! Sri Ramani K - 9V-SRI boleh, tapi 9V-SRK lagi best for you la!!
  3. Hi guys, special request. I will be operating SQ106 to KL on Monday morning - my first time operating to home soil - and would like to request if anyone is spotting that day to help me get some pictures of the arrival/departure. STA is 0930/STD is 1025. Thanks very much in advance! Cheers.
  4. I believe the aircraft is able to do it - BUT the problem is whether there is sufficient capacity for the alternate fuel. NZ being as isolated as it is, often a significant quantity of fuel is needed to be uplifted for legal reasons providing sufficient flying time to Australia. Payload then becomes restricted - and that's the money maker. I think that AirAsia X will opt for a tech stop in OOL or MEL. Hopefully they have some fifth freedom rights out of Australia to pick up and carry pax onwards to NZ.
  5. hmmm... I don't know how attractive this will look on 744/777 and definately the A380... Would have liked to see the Red and Blue wave's interchanged, with the rear wave continuing and covering the tail (in blue) and the wau in a monotone red instead of the double tone red/blue... there's too much white. I like the malaysiaairlines though. hmmm... I don't know how attractive this will look on 744/777 and definately the A380... 6. This problem check-in for MAS has been around for years.. morning and evening rush hours are terrible... Over 216 check-in counters available and MAS uses two rows for intl EY pax - E & F... Perhaps using different islands for different regions of the world could be a potential idea for MAS to improve the overall pax experience???
  7. "Power lah!" Everyone's been hearing 'rumours' but nothing concrete.. but the power of the net never ceases to amaze me, so hopefully the official notice pops up soon. Another possible routing was via Madrid. If it does start, hopefully it will stick longer than the cargo ops did.
  8. With and without, expect both Recommend you wear glasses on the day\
  9. Hi, Hopefully, I can answer your question and offer you advice at the same time. With regards to your eye-sight - it doesn't look all that good - but I'm no doctor - so my best advice to check if you are medically fit, is to visit a DAME (Designated Aviation Medical Examiner) for a FULL check to see whether you qualify for a "CLASS 1" medical - a requirement for ALL CPL/ATPL holders (i.e. Airline pilots in short). Here is a link to the DCA registered DAME list: http://www.dca.gov.my/Division/Flight_Operation/notices/AIC%2009-2004%20-%20Aviation%20Medical%20and%20List%20Aviation%20Doctor.pdf Also, think about a university/college programe post-SPM - always good to have a fall back plan and you're still young! That's what I did and I have no regrets. Do your flying after this if possible don't worry, if your hearts in it, the years will go by quickly! All the best, and hope i've been of some help. Regards
  10. Anyone catch the Air Astana B752(WL) this morning at KLIA? Parked at the C30's at SAT A
  11. very interesting development. I was hoping they would put the 738's daily from KL in addition to the daily 777 service.
  12. Very nice pictures! Really miss the blue skies/clear air of Perth and these pictures just reinforce that sense of longing... cilaka Airbus fleet... On another note, good to see the second daily Xanadu flights have commenced, although I have one query - Anyone complained yet that TIGER and AIRASIA X are using the exact same flight number at around approximately the same time??? i.e. D72716 (KUL-PER) & TR2716 (SIN-PER) and then again on the return D72717 (PER-KUL) & TR2717 (PER-SIN)????? With all the permutations that could have been chosen....... amazing!
  13. November Romeo 1 eh? Someones initials me thinks!
  14. KLIA could expect to see some more diversions today - Singapore is painted magenta and red on the weather radar.
  15. KC and others, I don't know about palm oil exchange in this case - to what extent is the Federal Government involved in negotiations is another concern... Interestingly enough, large - reliable aviation media sources such as ATW, Flightglobal and Janes have not spoken a word nor irked a shrug towards this USD$5 Billion order.. so credibility again of Malaysia's corporate identity may once again crumble that little bit more.. Each time I think about it, I think that it is more and more linked to the decision/proposal by Irkut to have a manufacturing facility in Malaysia for both military and civillian aircraft... This already would hamper the ability of the TUDM to acquire more trusted/cost effective western fighters such as the FA-18 Super Hornets/Eurofighter Typhoon/Dassault Rafale... The government has to realise that the French and the Russians appear to be milking us with sub-standard hardware - the MiG29 - beautiful as they are - BUDGET BURDEN! The submarines that don't submerge - Merci, Thales! The PT90 Tanks that we don't hear much about anymore - Thanks Poland.. And now, are we going to commit to 50 MS-21 aircraft as a possible "LAUNCH CUSTOMER???" - What the HAY! Why? Why can't we be a bit more comfortable and go with the C-Series or something like that..... Malaysia... please... wake up...
  16. Sounds more like the usual attempt of taking money from one pocket, and putting it in the other.. have we all but forgotten this recent news?: http://www.malaysianwings.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=14297 The component business probably needs a big order to kickstart revenue - and this illustrious order for 50 aircraft would be fit. I would NOT like to see Firefly/Berjaya/MASWings operate this aircraft because although it 'may' turn out to be good and reliable - branding and image wise - I don't think it is very good for our aviation image.. and it will be too much a cost burden on MAS/Government to implement such a small fleet... If Firefly wants to go for regional jets, I say the CRJ series would be the best bet - We already have a strong link with Bombardier and maintenance experience with such aircraft through AIROD - a company that desperately needs to expand beyond air-force/C130 hercules contracts...
  17. Yeah I thought you'd be the one to have caught it in the beautiful light of yesterday afternoon. We were on EP behind a MASquito ATR holding for 20C when this beauty came in, panties down and all.. I must admit, the all white livery is quite stunning.
  18. nobody needs to be reminded of incidents such as SQ006, EK @ AKL, GA @ PER and other countless incidents that annually take place wrt runway maintenance, displaced thresholds or adjusted runway LDA's or TORA.... I think the decision by MAHB/DCA was prudent and apt! Especially given the weather - heck I just hope the repair team wasn't working on the runway during the storm and putting themselves at risk.
  19. Firefly as a brand cannot be likened to MI - consistently marketed and rated as a boutique airline. Firefly has imaged itself as a community and no-frills airline - albeit with the odd frill of cordial and a muffin and 20kgs allowance - but you are paying for it through higher fares than as AirAsia. If MAS wanted to operate a carrier such as MI in the boutique category and use an all narrow-body fleet, the airline to do it with is MASWings - A name synonymous with the parent airline - an attractive and classy image that fulfills expectations of a boutique airline - and access and a base at one of Malaysia's premier leisure destinations - Kota Kinabalu. And it is also synonymous with DOMESTIC operations. MASWings should then be given the mandate to operate the new B737-800's on international destinations such as Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Yogyakarta, Medan, Aceh, Padang, Bandung, Surabaya, Hainan, Chengdu, Phnomh Penh etc etc etc as well as all domestic services. Firefly should remain an entity that operates turboprop services linking major peninsular towns with Subang and secondary destinations. MAS should then commit to a fleet of 10-15 B737-900ERs to boost frequency for its own extended international operations such as PER, DEL, TPE, MNL, PDG etc etc. Again, look at all the things and scenarios we can come up with... at the end of the day, if the people at MAS want to make money, they'll make the right decisions - whether history has been a lesson in this regard will be seen in the future. We can speculate and hypothesize and argue all we like, but at the end of the day, we're not the bean counters at MAS.
  20. when did we stop being allies with America?? I thought Obama and Najib are good chums now???
  21. based on the aircraft's apparent position on the runway (i.e. far left of centreline) it is no wonder why there is no apparent left rudder... with the wind coming from the LHS of this picture, and already being left of centreline there would be no natural instinct to use left rudder... especially if this was a last minute bit of crosswind gust... if the whole approach was like this... should've gone around.. yikes... pilots sure would have had some form of shrinkage after that landing though. Made for a very nice photo.
  22. i'm really amazed... not one item in her bag was non-branded... and having such an expensive filled suitcase that only weighed 10kg, well I would have tried to take it as carry on instead... I'm sure there will be an appeal from MAS lawyers...
  23. There are "bus terminals" at the basement of the MTB beneath the Aerotrain terminal as well as at the Satellite terminal in the C11-C17 Wings. They are equipped with escalators and lifts. I would imagine that there are new trains as I recall a few months back Bombardier winning an order for an upgrade - could also have to do with the construction of a maintenance depot for the aerotrains between Satellite A and Satellite B reserve... it was always puzzling why MAHB relied on the two existing trains with no spare available in case of breakdown. On the other hand, the suggestion that one aerotrain remains operable while the other line is upgraded makes perfect logical sense, however, I'm sure the engineers/contractors/KLIA management have evaluated this as an unuseable alternative given the nature of works that they need to carry out. Here's hoping for new, more cooler looking trains anyway
  24. I hope these guys work out... a diversification of operations may be ideal for an IPOH based carrier. e.g. Passenger network; night mailruns; bank runs; Medivac; Charter; Small-time freight etc etc. Fleet becomes very important - and although they have dreams of having corporate jets, and A320s.. perhaps they should keep it real and purchase multi-role aircraft like: 1. Beechcraft SuperKing Air 2. Pilatus PC12 3. Cessna Citation - Mustang (VLJ) These aircraft can be quickly modified for the many roles I have mentioned above.. Interestingly, a business model is evolving in Australia that is utilising the extensive GA network in the country to improve cost efficiencies and returns to operators.. have a look: www.emptyjet.com.au AirAsia succeeded because they ventured into new territory. They were ground-breakers. If Silverfly want's to be anything, don't imitate - create a market niche!! Ipoh is perfectly placed to be competitive in the GA arena.
