  1. A jumbo jet being chased by a F-16 fighter jets buzzed Lower Manhattan this morning, panicking New Yorkers, many of whom were forced to evacuate their office buildings. Full Report: http://www.nypost.com/seven/04272009/news/...rker_166470.htm
  2. Hmmm, but still only 1 customer for 747-8i...
  3. Nope, it is included in the taxes, admin fees calculation. No choice...
  4. I was just thinking, if Singapore airline was allowed into SZB, they would operate jet aircraft as they don't have a turboprop airline like Firefly. So, we may see only Firefly out of SZB for now. If jet aircraft is allowed then AirAsia would definitely make loadsa noise!
  5. Firefly does include compulsory insurance. We cannot opt out...
  6. KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- AirAsia is once more offering sweet deals to its guests, by offering free seats as introduction to its two new routes -- Singapore-Langkawi and Penang-Singapore. These new routes will simultaneously commence on June 1, 2009 with daily services. "By opening up these routes, we are looking forward to stimulating more travel and tourism activities which will definitely benefit the country's economy," said AirAsia Regional Head of Commercial, Kathleen Tan, in a statement today. "We always remain bullish that our low fares will help to stimulate and induce new travel demand, and will help boost tourism potential on both ends," she said. The free seats deals are exclusively available online via AirAsia's website at www.airasia.com or mobile.airasia.com. Booking period is from April 27 to May 3, 2009 for travel between June 1, 2009 and Jan 31, 2010. Alongside the new routes, the airline is increasing its frequency from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, bringing the total frequency to eight direct daily flights from the current seven. The added frequency will also commence operations on June 1, 2009, with free seats on offer to mark its initiation. The free seats offer is also available online with similar booking and travel period as the new routes above. "Our Kuala Lumpur - Singapore route on the other hand, received tremendous response ever since it was first introduced, with an average load factor of 80 percent," said Tan. The free seats offer exclude airport tax, admin fees and are applicable for one-way only. -- BERNAMA
  7. Yes, I think it is better for you to be safe than sorry. You will probably need to hang out more at the public park to get a better collection. The shots look good and thanks for sharing!
  8. Excellent shots of the Indian bird in Middle Eastern colours, Chaity. I admire you guys who spot in KLIA cos it is so much hassle and you may end up with nothing. The BULIS need to justify their wages, so they hassle innocent people pursuing their hobby. They should spend more time hassling the Mat Rempits lah!
  9. Will be in HKG next month and might stay in Marriott Skycity. What are the chances of getting some shots from there? I am unlikely to get much time for serious spotting!
  10. Data can be found here: http://www.atraircraft.com/public/atr/html...ec21d7474b5706b
  11. IPH can't even take the A320, let alone the giant A333 or B772's that SQ use! "Open Skies" should mean that approval for any flights that an airline wants to mount should be given. So Singapore is behaving correctly by approving the SZB-SIN flights as Firefly applied to operate flights to SIN. I think that Malaysia will similarly approve routes that any Singapore airline might apply for.
  12. PETALING JAYA: Jetstar Asia is offering 88,000 free seats for travel between July 1 to March 25 from Singapore to four local destinations. This offer to celebrate the launch of its Penang service ends on Wednesday. The Singapore-based low-cost carrier will be starting daily flights from the republic to Penang from July 1, marking the airline’s 17th destination and fourth Malaysian route. The other three routes are from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Jetstar offers flights to 17 destinations in 10 countries within five hours from the Lion City. With a new Airbus A320 to be purchased in October, Jetstar would also double the number of its Singapore-Penang flights, chief executive officer Chong Phit Lian said in a statement yesterday. The free-seat promotion excludes airport taxes, administrative and insurance charges. For enquiries, call 800-6167-017 (24-hour call centre) or visit www.jetstar.com. 13. Yes, you are right, of course! What I should have said is "unofficial sources", since MH is not exactly generous with the correct and up to date information on their official website.
  14. A real shame that we can't get information from the horse's mouth but have to rely on "rumours" instead. MH's Marcom department needs to wake up!
  15. Does that mean going first to A333 and then onto A388 when it arrives?
  16. I thought Darwin was dropped too. But it is still on the MH timetables... I also wonder if Captn Radzi will be flying one of these new birds and how they are to fly compared to the outgoing B734's.
  17. You can check the B738 flights at the timetable section of MH website: http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/my/en/bkin...-timetable.aspx I note an interesting flight that will commence in 15 June: To Darwin (DRW) 0725* KUL 1020* MH137 738 CY
  18. I think that they are also a low cost HR department. Chasing employees for their bank account to be opened is not a very smart or efficient task to perform. So even in recruitment, AirAsia is already applying its economy measures. Staff must be low cost to manage too!
  19. This is what I got from MH: D7 gave me this - I missed the RM 101 tickets:
  20. You might want to check this out: http://www.planespotters.net/Airline/Malaysia-Airlines I don't think they are fully up to date either!
  21. Perhaps, but it will mean two flights instead of one. So maybe Firefly might be a better bet...
  22. Oh bummer! It is always best to take a direct flgiht and right now only Firefly and AirAsia flies JHB-PEN direct! Well if you book early enough, Firefly has the RM0 fare available (RM 70 inclusive of taxes, insurance and admin fee) while AirAsia has RM 29 fares available. Yes, the wheelchair bound people will find it very inconvenient!
  23. If you are flying from JHB to PEN it is probably best to stick with MH to avoid any possible problems.
  24. MH uses a B744 for its direct flights and they take around 4 hrs 35 mins. They also have services via BKI using a B734 and the flights are nearly 7 hours. The D7 A333 flights are scheduled to take 5 hours. D7 is finding negotiations with the Japanese authorities tough going and have given up on starting services to Japan this year. Japanese insist that D7 must use JAL/ANA ground services and that means it will be expensive. My guess is that if D7 is planning to go to the US, it will probably try to extend its London flights to New York.
