  1. There was a story... Red hat and gang would come to airport operator... Ask for 20 things... Airport operator thought about it... Came back, and said "OK, we can give you 10 things, we can further discuss 5 things.. But we definitely can't do the remaining 5 things". Tomorrow you will hear all the noise about the 5 things not granted.. In the press.. in the cabinet.. bla bla Donno la, maybe just a story. Who am I
  2. Maybe one day if ASEAN is liberalized like the EU (but see how that has turned out..?).
  3. Would be interesting to study the similarities between MH and TG and whether the same(ish) solution can be found. Why not a AF-KLM style merger?
  4. I am puzzled why anyone would prefer an LCCT. It is one thing to criticize MAHB if they think they are doing poorly, but another matter altogether to say they prefer an LCCT
  5. From a pure passenger experience standpoint, meaning without taking into account PSC, I wonder if anyone really prefers LCCT to conventional terminal?
  6. Ha.. Khazanah selling everything is actually a big sign of something...
  7. Just to update, got in touch with a travel agent who called QR. They said that you can purchase all-economy tickets and then upgrade sectors with points. Cannot with cash.
  8. I did consider PE but am not sure if ready to travel 13 hours non-stop with my very active 1yo son Anyway yes, I forgot about multi-city when posting the above. Trying to find the best solution on that. But again, seems only possible on EK though, strangely. EDIT: To mix classes, I mean
  9. Hey guys sorry to bring up an old thread. Am scouting for flights to London for end Sept and looking to mix Biz/Economy. Was wondering if it's possible to have for example KUL-DXB and LHR-DXB on Economy and DXB-LHR and DXB-KUL on Biz? You can split KUL-LHR on Economy and LHR-KUL on Business on Emirates, but not sure if can be done based on sectors. Of course am asking if also possible for QR or EY (or any other, if you have suggestions). Main consideration is that I will be traveling with my one year old son and wife, hence looking for a bit of a mix for comfort and the break-journey might be useful. Thanks all
  10. Why would AirAsia oppose an integrated airport? Weird.... Wonder why..........
  11. Well to be fair, it looks like he was already with MAS for close to 6 years in 2007. He's just coming back. Wish him all the best. Tough role, as we all know.
  12. Not only immigration, but also check-in. One way to solve that is by creating another entrance/exit point on the opposite part of this theoretical klia2B. Can check Jeddah new terminal masterplan for a similar concept. Doing this actually opens the possibility of having a different operator (not MAHB) operating klia2B White is Phase 1 for Operator A. Midfield terminal is Phase 2 while the last part is Phase 3. Phase 2 and 3, theoretically, though not ideal, can be operated by different operators since Phase 3 can be accessible by road separately from Phase 1.
  13. Headline really should be "Khazanah hires Morgan Stanley for Malaysia Airlines Sale"
  14. My guess was that it was to ensure the design is modular, so that more terminals can be added and added as need be. Can't find an image right now but just imagine copy and pasting the T shape of klia2 again and again. Almost unlimited expansion capability. I guess the idea is right, but the implementation..... can be debated
  15. Can't speak about now but in the not so distant past, the line of thinking is/was exactly that - A GLC shouldn't be "fighting" in public. Agree or disagree, but that's how it is. Personally, I certainly do agree there are a lot of things MAHB/KLIA etc can be improved upon, but the fight with Tony is usually just one-sided. Another interesting anecdote - at working and operating level, the relationship is fantastic. Rarely we see Tony's other partner making noise, no?
  16. Actually it goes to MAHB, hence why it's called "Passenger Service Charge". I believe that "airport tax" is an outdated term still used in the press. On your second point, truly agree. Tony is a hero to me for being able to start an airline from almost nothing. A dream for almost everyone here I am sure. It's just his methods sometimes screams BULLY. Just an interesting fact - Many things at klia2 had to changed during construction, to cater to the whims and fancies of Tony. A very obvious case is when you exit arrivals, there is a sudden gradient down towards the shops. Why? Get in touch.. haha Haha.. don't think they can do this. It will backfire for sure - just by the mere fact they would be taking their customers (and the general public) to be that dumb Talking about negative PR, I am unsure if MAHB has been suffering more relative to AirAsia? The latter been in a bunch more pickles lately
  17. One of those times that I can just afford a smile...
  18. Little-known fact: GIC (Singapore's other Sovereign Wealth Fund), owns a bit more than 1% of Malaysia Airports That stake is worth about RM200m today
  19. Need to correct this a bit. The rumored four is excluding the Qatar group, who are instead BEHIND some of the groups. The fourth group is led by ex-CEO of MAS Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman. Meanwhile, Weststar was sort of nominated by Khazanah, and will likely partner with Datuk Pahamin's group. Maybe IAG will the be ultimate entity owning it? Jeng jeng jeng....
  20. From other sources I read: Datuk Pahamin's group - The original AirAsia partner who was instrumental in Tony obtaining Tun M's blessing to start (his version of) AirAsia Jentayu Danaraksa - Firm that tried to buy out MAS in 2014 from Khazanah, if you all may recall. One of their members include Shukor Yusof, former Standard & Poor's aviation analyst Weststar Aviation - Mainly General Aviation and Helicopter charter service company. Partly owned by mega private equity firm KKR Group backed by Qatari Investors - Most interesting out of the lot, but the most mysterious thus far. Rumored to already been active in the Malaysian aviation scene with shareholdings in major entities, but very discreetly.
  21. Can't discount any rumor. No smoke without fire. Though anyone can have discussions with anyone, doesn't particularly mean anything.
  22. Relatively new. Less than a year if I recall. This effort isn't related to my team per se (although this idea was actually adopted from our Istanbul airport), but I think the lack of major publicity is to ensure it runs smoothly first before marketing it properly. Just my thoughts though.
  23. KLIA actually already has something similar, called FastTrack. Haven't used so can't comment though http://www.myairportfasttrack.com/services/ At those rates, unsure where it is feasible for it to be a perk for premium credit card members (assuming is free). It's actually a pretty cool service as you actually get to pass through customs/security through a totally separate route. If you notice when you take the escalator down after entering domestic airside at KLIA, you will see a floor in between - that's where this service takes you through.
  24. Think you overestimate how strong SQ/SIN are. Nothing is stopping them from doing that already, of course it is something that they want.
