  1. The PC-7 MkII is planned to replaced the current PC-7 MkI.Have flown both the PC-7 MkI and MkII with about 500 hrs on the MkI alone. The PC-7MkI powerplant is rated at 550 SHP as compared to the PC-7 MkII which is rated at 750 SHP.It bridges the gap between the PC-7 MkI and PC-9,comes with martin Baker lightweight zero-zero ejection seats and has EFIS as well as HUD in the cockpit. The engine is mounted in such a way as to negate the enormous torque effect associated with a single turboprop engine.IMO its an excellant replacement for the PC-7 MkI and a good LIFT for budding fastjet pilots prior to the jet transition phase. Our neighbour down south have purchased the highly capable and better performance PC-21 which can fly at jet like speeds and handling. 2. The Airbus FBW aircraft behaves differently than a conventional aircraft,ie the sidestick does not move when either CM1 or CM2 is handling the airplane. The incident occurred when the airplane was below 100 ft RA.I suggest to the above person to check all facts before coming to that conclusion.
  3. The lucky aircraft caught by youre most intrepid lens is 9M-AFS which had a heavy landing incident at KUL.Was flown by ACPTS and student with student at the controls during the incident.had to do a total maintainance check to the aircraft structure.
  4. Sir,the Aermacchis are not exRNZAF but brand new ones. The deal for the KIWI birds fell through last year.Current streaming, pilots coming off from Basic Flying (PLTB 1),those destined to fly Mig29s and F5s go to MB339A and those selected for Hawk 208,F/A18D and future SU30MKM fly the Hawk 108.When they bought the Hawk 108/208,it was in lieu of the projected Tornado MRCA,cost too high and small number so went for Hawks.Repalced the A4PTM at Nos 6 and 9 Sqn and formed a new training unit, sort of Operational Conversion Unit for Fighter or fast jet aircraft. So the RMAF disbanded PLTB 1 and formed instead No.15 Sqn.Lately the No.9 Sqn was amalgamated with No.6 Sqn.Likewise No.17 Sqn is the OCU for Mig29 and No.19 Sqn is the operational Sqn,heard latest No.19 Sqn also amalgamated with No.17 Sqn. As for Helis, after Basic Flying with PLTB 1, they will go to PLTB 2 for rotary wing qualifications, and after that off to No.3 Sqn which is the Heli OCU. For Fixed wing, after completion of Basic Flying ,pilots are posted to No.4/20 (C402B/C130H) Sqn or No.21(CN235) Sqn for conversion. After that they will either go to: No.2 Sqn VIP (BD700,F28,BBJ,DA90),No.4/20 Sqn (C402B,C130H/-30H,KC130H),No.16 Sqn (B200T),No.21 Sqn (CN235)
  5. As usual the media are not pilots, they usually like to report something akin to sensational news, what the test pilots did was probably an emergency descent. This is taught in the Sim incased of rapid depress prob. The actions are: PF/CM1 1.Aircraft rapid Decomp.Silence warnhorn.Read ECAM. 2.Oxygen Mask on.Cx Coms. 3.ALT knob Turn and Pull,HDG knob Turn and Pull,SPD knob Pull 4.SPEED Brake deploy If structure damage ,SPD not more than 250KIAS If no damage 5.ALT set 10000FT or MORA if mountanous region,HDG 90degrees off track,SPD - MMO/VMO Aircraft in Normal Law,so no prob.Airbus FBW aircraft have 4 laws (Normal Law,Alternate Law,Direct Law,Mech backup)
  6. The project to replace the F/A18D with F/A18F was first offered by the USMC.Since the production line for the F/A18D is closed, they (USMC) wanted our Hornets to replace some of theirs due to high op tempo.Infact the RMAF was planning to buy another 8 F/A18ds but the financial crisis came, and those plans were put in the backburner. Now the subject has came again, maybe it would bear fruit, maybe even linked to a second space adventure for our intrepid angkasawan. All this also is subject to the political will of the country, anyway to be off topic, our neighbour down south has just ordered another 12 F15SG to add to the earlier 12 ordered F15SG.Looks like they are finally phasing out their A4SU.
  7. Sir,exactly what are you implying, let the public judge them,in my oppinion if AK cant provide what I want,I'll go with MH.Ive been with the company now coming up to 6 years, theres a lot of ex MH pilots in AK,they are saying negative things about their old company.Lets just be professional about it,each have its own bussiness model to cater to the various public wishes.Just let the management have their different views and sometimes bickering shenanigans.I quote from Capt Chou KS and Capt Ken Chong "MH pilots are like spoilt brat sometimes",these are 2 ex MH B744 Capts quote.Yes sometimes AK is such a pain in the arse, but that is bussiness.Lately there are a few exMH FOs from A330 fleet joining AK as Capts on the A320 and some retired MH B744 Capts joining, shouldnt we ask them why would they come to AK instead of going to Kimchiland or to the Sandpit?
  8. Azmir I.

    AK RTB?

Yes were now 100% A320 at KUL,there are some B733 from hubs come to KUL for flights to BND or to RON at KUL,since now B733 are redistributed among the hubs (JHB,KCH,BKI).9M-AAY had some hydraulic problems, most probably that may have caused it to RTB .Sorry for being off topic here, but yesterday I did KUL/HAN/KUL flight, and my FO said that the pax lining up at the MH counter in HAN did not number more than 50.Hows the pax figures for HAN in MH ops?Now were doing 2 flights daily to HAN and the pax figures are moderate ,having between 100 -150 pax each way and each flight. And if hes having a light load, why didnt he go for FL360 instead of FL340,while we opted for FL380 on outbound and passing South of BKK we climbed to FL390 whereas the MH757 descended to FL330,heavy flight maybe.Having flown the B737 classic before ,I think the max operating altitude will be FL370,shouldnt it be a prob to fly at FL350 unless that crz altitude is not available to them I suppose.
  9. Gold Coast was cold throughout my stay there (average temp was 20C) from 8/11 - 10/11.I was the PIC for that flight (D7 2702 - 7/11/07).Sorry for the hissing sound coming from door 2R,its because of some faulty seal around the door, the snag is still there since delivery from USA.OOL/YBCG has only a VOR/D approach, approach was given radar vectors by Brisbane Ctr and was given the opportunity to flypast Surfers Paradise prior to finals for Rwy 14 OOL.hope you enjoyed the flight.
  10. I think to answer to youre question ,most probably the flight originated from PEN-LGK-SZB-LGK-PEN. See also for the flight from KBR.Most probably its PEN-KBR-SZB-KBR-PEN. Please guys dont hantam me ,its just my 2 cents hypothesis.
  11. Air Deccan has been bought over by Vijay Malyaas UB Group, hence the Kingfisher markings.
  12. You know how much are the pilots being paid to fly that aircraft?Rumor mill says that Capts are paid RM$38K a month whether they fly or not.The Malaysian Goverment leases the airplane on long term lease, paying the owner at RM $2 million a month for 15 years.
  13. Congrats to Air Seychelles on that aviation milestone.Last year AK did just that with an all female crew but the PIC was not Malaysian but an Australian from Valuair, she has now left AK to go to the now defunct GOAir.
  14. Some of the longest domestic flights operated by AK from a Flight crew point of view considering the long FDP are: 1.KUL - TWU -KUL - KBR - KUL 2.KUL - SDK - KUL - PEN - KUL 3.KUL - KCH - KUL - BKI - KUL 4.KUl - KCH - KUL - KCH - KUL Once AK used to operate up to 6 x sectors in Pen Malaysia ie: KUL - PEN - KUL - KBR - KUL - JHB - KUL.Duty period and Flight times are not long but very tiring due to rapid turnarounds and lots of take offs and landings.
  15. .As far as Im concern there is no Capt Andrew Gavin listed as Capt on the A330 fleet ,there are only 8 x Capts and 6 x FOs.How long have you been in AK,did you start out flying the B733 prior to converting to A320 or DEC to the A320?The said aircraft is leased from AWAS and its MSN is 054,XFA just got the aircraft as is where is.Just a reminder to all AXM drivers, you can taxy fast but the FDA will record youre speeds, besides youll get a whacking tongue lashing from the CPO or DFO himself.By the way where did you do youre A320 conversion,AirAsia Academy or at Airbus training Toulouse?
  16. KUL LCCT has 1 x B733 for operations into BND (Bandung),this is due to the apron LCN unable to take A320,and also as a spare capacity for other hubs and also for KUL for some contingencies. To Mr Sofian, dont be too harsh on AXM/AK just because youre an ardent fan of MAS subsidiary Fireflyz, each has its own supporters and detractors.Let the consumer decide for themselves whichever airline they prefer to fly,be it domestic or international, according to affordability, comfort, convenience, timing, punctuality, customer service and satisfaction.By the way things are looking at MAS/MH,they are more like AerLingus and AirCanada today than the legacy full carrier service that they are supposed to be.
  17. Sorry for being off topic but today we received info from TF that AXM/AK is given Malaysian Goverment approval to fly to Singapore. There will be 2 flights a day from all hubs to Singapore daily and not just from KUL and schedule operations to Singapore will start as early as this December. He said that our PM phoned him the goodnews after todays cabinet meeting.Stay tune for further info.
  18. Azuddin the project X-33 has been canceled and in its place is the Project Constelation. It is built using technologies from the Saturn V and Space Shuttle. There will be 2 rockets,Aries 1 and Aries IV.For Aries I the crew will be carried to space aboard a spacecraft called the "Orion",it looks like the Apollo CM but on steroids. It consist of a first stage made up from five segment reusable solid rocket booster similar to the space shuttle, upper stage made up of aluminium lithium structure powered by a single J-2X engine, and the CEV (crew exploration vehicle aka Orion) consisting of launch abort system, crew module and service module. The Orion CM can be used up to 10 missions, diameter 5meters,length 8.5meters,crew capacity 6,interior volume 90.3 cubic feet, mass 17,397,power solar/battery,reentry aerobrake, landing parachute/land/water. Aries IV will carry the EDS (Earth Departure Stage) and the LSAM (Lunar Surface Access Module) and it will consist of a core stage with 5 x RS-68 engines and 2 x PBAN soid rocket boosters each with 5 x segment RSRB,EDS (Earth Departure Stage) with a single J-2X engine and an upper stage containing the LSAM (Lunar Surface Access Module which consist of an ascent and descent module). The LSAM is capable of carrying 4 x Astronauts as compared to 2 x Astronaut on the LM.The Orion CEV will be left unattended in Moon orbit untill the exploration on the surface is completed. For missions to the ISS the Orion CEV will be carrying 5 x Astronauts but for missions to the moon it will carry only 4 x Astronauts. Info taken from "Project Constellation:Moon,Mars & Beyond by Tim McElyea from Apogee Books."
  19. Guys, its been confirmed officially that the radio callsign for AirAsiaX (XFA/D7) will be Xanadu.Today we did a recency check for 5 pilots on the A330 9M-XAA using the callsign Xanadu 700/701 from KUL to JHB and did a couple of CCTS and LDGS for the 5 of us,to keep ourselves current and to know the aircrafts characteristics and behaviour (handling) prior to the schedule flight to OOL on the 2/11/07.From the 24,25,26 of Oct they will be flights to KCH using AXM/AK callsign for the delayed Raya run, delayed due to paperwork regarding legality issues about aircraft utilisation with lessor.Im scheduled to fly to OOL on the 7/11/07,anybody from MW going to OOL on that day?
  20. I think these are for incoming flights from Dhaka, mind you there are alot more workers awaiting the chance to come to KUL but dont have enough flights out off Dhaka,as for the stranded Banglas,no idea at all.Probably true as to what you said. I'll remind Capts Hans and Omar Shuib about that, thanks Capt. Actually Sir youre rumored info was partially correct, yes 9M-XAA was supposed to do the charter flight to MAN but the paper work by DCAM for the AOC and released of aircraft for pax service was not ready so instead they subsituted 9M-AFC as an alternate aircraft. But the photo of 9M-XAA which you took was a real beauty, thanks and keep it up sir.
  21. The info that Mr Norman gave on the A330-302 9M-XAA was incorrect and wrong. The flight to Manchester was done by 9M-AFC,its a charter flight for MyTeam. The aircraft flew with 2 complete crews and did 2 stopovers before finally arriving in Manchester (Karachi-Pakistan and Larnaca-Cyprus).Begining the 10/10/07 AK will be doing some Raya flights by utilizing the A330 9M-XAA,most probably flights will be to KUL/KCH/KUL (AK5208/5209).Altogether there will be 5 flights and after that there will be some charter flights to Dhaka - Bangladesh. The route revenue flight will start from 02/11/07 with flights to Gold Coast (YBCG/OOL).There will be 4 flights a week with flights departing KUL at 2140 and on Sunday it will be a day flight departure.Currently the aircraft is parked at opposite B8 near to MTB,maybe to free up some space at KLAS cargo or to antogonize MAS,maybe, haha.

    Airtanker

That contract to replace the urgently needed tanker was initially won by Boeing which was to supply about 100 B762 Tankers known in USAF as the KC45A but protest from the consortium Northrop-Grumman and EADS which proposed the A332 MRTT as the KC30 caused the contract to be reviewed by US DoD.The A332 MRTT has been ordered by the RAAF,RAF,UAEAF and RSAF(Saudi).
  23. Its nice to hear hes voice again.Thats Capt Ahmad Razlah. He was formerly from the RMAF (flew C130H) and later was the DDFO (Deputy Director Flight Operations) at AirAsia and now in MAS.Flew line training with him on B733,great Pilot.
  24. I am very certain of it.Have worked before in Ministry of Defence.Have friends who were involved in the procurement projects such as Hawk 200/100,F/A-18D,Mig-29 and also Su-30 MKM.I wont quote anything before doing any research. That not only covers procurement for the RMAF but also RMN and Army.
