One-Two-Go Grounded!

Recommended Posts

One-Two-Go, Thailand’s first budget airline, will suspend its operations for at least two months in the wake of the high jet fuel prices.

The airline said in a statement that it would be grounded from Tuesday to Sept 15 to allow for restructuring.

One-Two-Go, founded by Chief Executive Officer Udom Tatiprosongchai, is the Kingdom’s first low-cost carrier and started operation in December 2003 with an inaugural flight between Bangkok-Chiang Mai.

It operates scheduled flights from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hatyai, Nakhorn Si Thammarat, Phuket and Surat Thani, flying over 200 flights a week and a monthly passenger capacity of over 100,000.

One-Two-Go and its parent company, Orient Thai, operates a fleet of five Boeing 747-300 and eight McDonnell Douglas MD-82s. In May, Orient launched “Orient Thai Cargo Airlines” to tap international cargo market.

Last week, Udom told a local newspaper that he was planning to suspend the airline’s operation in view of the high jet fuel prices.

While all domestic routes under One-Two-Go will be stopped between July 22 and Sept 15, Orient will continue to fly to Hong Kong and Incheon, South Korea.

With jet fuel prices skyrocketing and passenger traffic slowing down, Thailand’s four airlines have been cutting down the number of routes or reducing frequencies, including on popular long haul flights.

Thai Airways International (THAI), its low cost subsidiary Nok Air, Thai Air Asia and One-Two-Go have cited the jet fuel prices of more than US$170 a barrel and strong competition for the reduction, which affects many popular destinations in the country.

How about their Biman (?) and MAI wet lease?

Guess unaffected, as Incheon and HongKong will continue to operate, as per NST article...

I watched a news in BBC two days ago. It says "virgin blue will be apply luggage surcharge due high oil prices". As you discussed in other topics co many airlines begin to apply luggage surcharge, fuel surcharge, limitation luggage weight tilll 20kg per passanger, only up to 5 kg and one pieces cabin luggage, at least %50 less clean water for aircraft washroom supply, removing heaters, removing inflight magazines, removing metal knife and blades for serving, to be out of service lavatory in short flights(!) etc.

there was a subject in Larry King talk show which is about "all American airlines forcing pilots to saving fuels and they are thinking sack a lot of pilots for getting profit against high oil prices"

if the best and loyal oil customers "AIRLINE COMPANIES" shouldn't fight to OPEC and speculators who are to be forced rising oil prices, I think they can't be find customer who wants to fly!

in other hands if this events continue what would be next?

-passanger weight surcharge? example if you are over 70kg you will be pay extra fee per kgs!!!!!!

-single type flight suits for passangers which are woven by light threads! no belts, no clocks also no eyeglasses!

-to be prohibit eat somethings before flight! it will be cause of "extra weight for flight!"

airlines journey is going to be trouble day by day.

bro hakan..imho the big picture is like this..

i think the world is round because its a sign of everything will in cycles but different axis.

at times when we thought cost of living will be cheaper, better for us, it increase. forcing us to catch up with it again.

we thought we can afford the air tikets easily, it turns out to be a bit out of budget.

so the only good thing after this is what goes up will come down..believe me.

So after this do not feel wired if the airlines start to charge you if you use the wash room.. :help: :help:

I believe most of the operator want to cut cost on what they believe as Reducing Cost = Same Cost of Operation per sector (after fuel jet price soaring) which the passenger will get cheaper ticket including Zero Fare..

So not always the Lower Cost Carrier brings you the best service as they operate at lowest cost..So if plan to use LCCs service, by the end of your journey, please don't ask the ground steward/stewardess where to make complain or suggestion box located.. ;) ;)

BANGKOK, MON:

Thailand’s Orient Thai Airline and its low-cost subsidiary One-Two-Go Airline are ordered on Monday, to cease operations for 30 days, starting from July 22, because of the poor safety standards.

Chaisak Angkasuwan, Director-General of the Civil Aviation Department of Thailand, said during a press conference on Monday, that the air operator certificates to the two airline companies have been suspended.

“Orient Thai and its One-Two-Go are the second aviator which faces service suspension, after Sky Aviation. The department will file criminal suits against their pilots, inspectors and the companies within two weeks,” the Thailand news agency (TNA) quoted Chaisak as saying in a local news network.

In September 2008, a passenger plane of the One-Two-Go Airline crashed when the plane attempted to land at the Thai southern Phuket Airport in stormy weather. Ninety people were killed. Udom Tantiprasongchai, One-Two-Go founder, earlier has denied allegations that pilots worked excessive hours and that One-Two-Go aircraft were poorly maintained.

Last week, One-Two-Go announced it would cease operations “ temporarily” to allow time for a financial restructuring.
