RM50,000 fee hike grounds flying school students

Recommended Posts

From the NST, July 16th 2008

KUALA LUMPUR: Students at a flying school in Langkawi may have their wings clipped unless they add RM50,000 to the RM170,000 they have already paid in fees.

The 21 final semester students at HM Aerospace -- seven of whom are being sponsored by Malaysia Airlines -- have to pay up, or risk not being allowed to continue with their flying lessons.

Most of the students who complained about the increase did not want to be named, fearing action would be taken against them by the college.

"We have entered the final stages of our training. The college has stopped all our flying lessons until the extra RM50,000 has been paid or until an assurance that it will be paid is given.

"They sent letters to our parents telling them the increase was because of a pay rise given to instructors, and for spare parts for airplane engines," said a student.

He said there had been no advance warning that the fees would be increased, adding that his parents, who were not wealthy, were now in a quandary over how to pay the additional amount.

HM Aerospace is owned by the Halim Mazmin Group.

Group executive chairman Tan Sri Halim Mohammad said the matter was a commercial transaction between the college and its students.

"The school has every right to institute a reasonable increase, and the total of RM220,000 is reasonable.

"Malaysia is still the cheapest place to learn to fly. In the United Kingdom, the cost is 21/2 times more than what it is here," he said.

Parents who sought a clarification on the fee increase, should come forward and speak to the college, said Halim.

Maybe need to check how much they pay to those within and outside the board of directors. This is tantamount to extortion.

Again we have idiots comparing life in Malaysia and comparing it with somewhere like United Kingdom .. lol

And those stuck-ups and a**-kissers who go all the way trying to convince the people through all the channels they could reach and missuse...

And to make it worse, there are who blindly take the stuck-ups words for it...

sorry... OT... :pardon:

The school should give an advance about 3 to 5 months about this fees hike as the business planning people should think of advance and back up plans not straight away slice the throats of the students for the fees to cover the whatsoever nonsense hike of price in the market to cover the maintenance for the school.

I totally disagree with the move which resulted the poor student's who cant raise the amount to have their dreams tarnished because of the fees hike.

At my point of view the school should come up with new plans for the fresh intakes such as raising the fees to maybe about RM 290000 or maybe RM 300000 up to their planning which has a possible logic behind this mess of raising for the current student's

This would be a more warmer approach for the current market situation where its more than RM100++K extra from current cost, at the moment the school should think of other alternatives or maybe take the current situation as a operational losses.

Best Regards
