Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 Guys, During my stay at HCMC, I also visited the War Remnants Museum; the following aircraft were on display outside the building(s): These Cessna's were widely used in Vietnam in the early 70's: F-5 in USAF livery (don't know if registration is fake or original): The most widely used helicopter was the Bell UH-1: Douglas Skyraider: These Cessna's were used for observation flights: Pictures from inside the museum are too cruelsome to show here
Rozhan 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 Interesting pictures Pieter. A symbol of a 'superpower' humbled, and people had to die senselessly!

Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted December 30, 2007 Is this museum known as the American war crime museum as well? No idea, SV, this is what it said on my admission ticket (which was way more expensive than for the locals )... Anyhow, about 50 kms N-W of SGN are the Cu Chi tunnel(s), and there was also a trusty UH-1 on display there Cockpit-instruments were pretty much in tact: Tail-boom showed USAF, but I'm pretty sure it used to be US Army... <_> Big side-windows must have given an excellent view for the 'passengers': Never knew the UH-1 had such a nice butt.... Look at those rotor-blades, by the way:

Hairil Anuar Md Akil 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2007 Good collection of aircraft...only downside is that they are all in fake/made-up markings! I believe all the planes were operated by the VNAF (South Vietnam Air Force) which fell into North Vietnam's hands in 1975. The F-5 for example, was not operated by the US except for the 'Skoshi Tiger' operational evaluation detachment in the late 60s.
Andrew Lim 1 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Pieter, Nice shots of the UH-1, my fav helicopter. I believe the USAF did operate a small amount of these helicopters during the Vietnam War...
