Ewan Shamsudin 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2006 Hello everyone! On my recent balik kampung trip, I snapped a few pictures. Here goes! Shops Another angle of the shop area Main entrance. Local wood-carving as a decor. Ticket offices. It was 6am. AK's still closed. Another local craft - kite-making. They adorn the ceiling everywhere. Entrance to departure lounge. Perhentian Island booth. Yes they specially welcome you, Uncle Pieter! Wider shot of the tour agents' booths. Car rental is useful. Another wood-carving motif: 'Pucuk rebung' (bamboo shoots) normally seen on batik work. Arrival and baggage reclaim beyond the glass wall. and finally... Circumcision package, anyone? Indeed, it's school holiday and it's time when people have weddings, go on holidays and get their boys circumcised! This is an ad by a private hospital in Kota Bharu. That's all for now... MORE TO COME!
Seng Lim 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2006 I have 3 questions, hope our muslim friends can help (sorry for being too keepo): What is the 'disposable item' mentioned in the circumcision package advertisement? Why parent willing to spend more than $100 to get their kids circumcise in private specialist hospital instated of the 'group circumcise ceremony in the mosque' (which is free and more holy right?)? For muslim is it OK to circumcise once they were borned? I knew most Australian were circumcised when they were a baby while Korean had this operation when they turn about 10 years old (which is similar to Malaysian Muslim). Thank you in advance. Mushrif A 3 Report post Posted December 9, 2006 (edited) I have 3 questions, hope our muslim friends can help (sorry for being too keepo): What is the 'disposable item' mentioned in the circumcision package advertisement? Why parent willing to spend more than $100 to get their kids circumcise in private specialist hospital instated of the 'group circumcise ceremony in the mosque' (which is free and more holy right?)? For muslim is it OK to circumcise once they were borned? I knew most Australian were circumcised when they were a baby while Korean had this operation when they turn about 10 years old (which is similar to Malaysian Muslim). Thank you in advance. (1) Your guess is as good as mine as to what the disposable item is. Maybe it refers to the way the circumcision is done using the "clamp" method or maybe it is that particular bodily part that gets thrown away. I guess it is just those typical gimicky yet vague language you find on adverts. Just like the use of the word "Doktor Pakar" - I don't think there is a circumcision specialist per se but a doctor that has experience in different types of surgeries. (2) There is nothing additionally holy in getting it done in a special place. And nothing is free - it may be free if sponsored by certain parties/ individuals, but then again, somebody always picks up the tab. Traditionally, circumcision is a big family affair with feasts thrown in for good measure and in many places, they still are but these days, many just tend to get it done and over with at the hospital where it is perceived to be more hygienic. (3) Most Muslims, apart from SEAsia, tend to do it within a day or two after being borned. It is not the norm in M'sia where many get it done when they fall in the age range of 7-12 yrs. In the Indian sub-continent, Middle east, Europe & N.America, the Muslims usually get it done not too long after birth. In fact, in the US, apart from the Jews & Muslims, more than a few baby boys are circumcised after being borned. Edited December 9, 2006 by mushrif a
Y. J. Foo 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2006 Maybe you should also cover the exterior as well. As a resident of Kelantan I like this terminal alot as I find the airport unique and not like many other new airports that copy KLIA design. Though I hope they could expand and have some international airlines flying into this airport.

As a resident of Kelantan I like this terminal alot as I find the airport unique and not like many other new airports that copy KLIA design. Though I hope they could expand and have some international airlines flying into this airport. I guess they will need a longer runway, plus jet A1 availability. The good thing is that they have ILS now. Look carefully at the interior and you might see some shoddy construction too.

Though I hope they could expand and have some international airlines flying into this airport. I'll try next time. I was there to catch the 6:45am flight so there's still no outdoor light.. hhehehe. And I do agree with you on the design. It doesn't try to be KLIA. International airlines in KBR? I hope it will happen in my lifetime (I mean it as uncynically as possible). Here's more: After security, take the escalator up. ISO certification thingy. Close up of the poster. Sip some coffee while waiting for your flight. Vast departure hall. Another artwork on the wall. THis painting depicts the traditional culture and people of Kelantan. From the other side of the hall. "Kami menjuemput penumpang-penumpang bersama kanak-kanak terlebih dahulu...etc" Waiting 'till everyone is off My ride that morning, Mike Delta. Oh we're at KUL already. Duty free at domestic level. It's so Chrismassy already. Baggage wait. Enjoy.

Radzi 2 Report post Posted December 10, 2006 This airport is much much better then IPH and AOR... IPH, no comment. AOR, do you mean the old terminal or the new one? Anyway AOR is comfortably long now, about 9000 ft long. Both AOR and KBR are now equipped with ILS.
Fitri Shukri 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2006 Yeah I agree with you guys about the uniqueness of KBR, and that it doesn't try to copy KLIA's design. I'm really surprise that of all the state, it is Kelantan that has one of the nicest and most modern airport terminal in Malaysia (considering that Kelantan is not governed under BN government). I don't really see a need currently for international flight into KBR, but I would really appreciate domestic flight from KBR to many other destination such as to PEN, IPH, reintroduce to JHB and maybe even to KUA, BKI or KCH (many Kelantanese living in Borneo, either as government servant, teacher, student or trader). I think the F50 can do the job, except maybe for BKI and KCH. And I think KBR is easy to do spotting also, many 'low' fence around its perimeter.
Y. J. Foo 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2006 And I think KBR is easy to do spotting also, many 'low' fence around its perimeter. But unfortunately we only have a few 737 flights form MAS and AirAsia, plus some small a/c for the training centre... :( Talking about Airasia, is KBR capable of handling A320? AirAsia doesn't seem to dispatch them to KBR...

Andrew Ong 1 Report post Posted December 11, 2006 Thanks ewan shamsudin for the pictures. You brought me back memories from KBR Terminal because I used MH1385 (KBR-KUL) and AK6321 (KBR-KUL) there. :yahoo:
Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted December 11, 2006 Perhentian Island booth. Yes they specially welcome you, Uncle Pieter! Thanks for sharing, Ewan: it sure is a nice/lovely airport !!! I know Perhentian Island is very popular among the KLM crews while spending 4-5 days in KUL, they'd rather fly to KBR and transfer for the Island instead

Naim 6 Report post Posted December 13, 2006 Great pics, Ewan. I first used KBR when the terminal was just a shack, way back '75, I think. It was an MH Fokker turbo-prop flight AOR-KBR. The state is lobbying hard for KBR to become the international gateway to the Eastern Corridor development project. Stiff competition from TGG and KUA, for sure.
