The Star: MAS reinstates two domestic routes

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Air- lines (MAS) is reinstating two domestic non-trunk routes in Sabah and Sarawak and increasing four domestic flights from Monday.

The reinstated flights are the Kota Kinabalu-Miri and Kuching-Bintulu sectors.

There will be two daily flights between Kota Kinabalu and Miri and a daily flight between Kuching and Bintulu.

There is also an additional daily flight for the Kota Kinabalu-Tawau, Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu-Labuan and Kuala Lumpur-Labuan routes.

At present there are only three flights for Kota Kinabalu-Tawau and Sandakan-Tawau, two flights for Kota Kinabalu-Labuan and a daily flight for Kuala Lumpur-Labuan.

There will also be an extra flight between Kota Kinabalu-Labuan from Oct 1 when an additional B737-400 aircraft is based in Kota Kinabalu.

However, the Miri-Kuching flight will be reduced from four to three times a day.

MAS managing director and chief executive officer Idris Jala said the move was in response to the Government's request and the demands of the public.

“We are happy to step in again to the needs of customers,†he said here yesterday.

Last week, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy announced that MAS and AirAsia would reinstate about 90% of the domestic flights in Sabah and Sarawak that were cancelled on Aug 1.

The updated MAS online schedule shows that the additional flight for BKI - SDK will take effect from 29 Oct. By then, we will have, on this sector, 4x734 by MAS, 2x733 by AirAsia and 2xF50 by FAX, a total of 972 seats per day one way. This is even more than that before Fax started operation in Aug.

The fare charged for BKI-MYY route is now doubled!! I wonder who will be so rich enough to fly that! Somemore with the existance of AK. Later we'll heard MAS crying that nobody fly with them!
