Air Seoul, newest Korean LCC to start operation today

Recommended Posts

Asiana Airlines' new low-cost carrier (LCC) Air Seoul is set to start flights on July 11, as it has received final government approval for operation.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) announced Tuesday that Air Seoul passed the government review to get an Air Operator Certificate (AOC).

Following a test flight last month, the LCC also successfully demonstrated ditching and emergency evacuation procedures last week, winning the certificate that is issued after around 1,300 items are inspected. This means the carrier can begin regular service.

Air Seoul will start with flights between Seoul and the country's southern resort island of Jeju on July 11. It is expected to make four flights daily.

After three months, it will start international flights to Japan, China Cambodia, Malaysia and Vietnam. After three more months, the ministry will carry out a comprehensive inspection of the carrier to see if it has upheld safety standards

Try repeatedly and rapidly pronounce the name "Air Seoul" and you might see why the name might need to be changed...

Can add Jin Air and Jeju Air to the list. I think there is possibility Air Seoul will replace Asiana on BKI route (like KE and Jin Air arrangement a while back) or perhaps opening another route in the country.

They could have used Air Busan...I don't know why they didn't...maybe it's based in Busan instead of Seoul...

May be it's because OZ get quite a number of Star Alliance connecting traffic. Asiana Airlines has also done a lot of charters from Busan to Kota Kinabalu in the past using Asiana Airlines own A320-200.

This is the current schedule for OZ757/758. So it means starting in mid-Oct the route will be flown strictly by LCC (Air Seoul, Jin Air, Eastar Jet and Jeju Air).

Luckily there is still Dragonair/Cathay Pacific providing a one-stop service from BKI to ICN at a cheaper price than these Korean LCC.
