SS Lee 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2013 Flee, you chose a great time to come up to Penang for spotting. Tracked a few heavies departing today including the Royal Australian Air Force's A332 MRTT. You managed to catch it? It departed from Butterworth RMAF airport and did a touch and go before landing at PEN.

I only arrived around noon and must have missed it! All I got was the usual narrow body traffic. Saw the FedEx MD-11 depart as I arrived. Then I got the arrival of this guy:

Oh, too bad then - it would have been a great catch if it came on Saturday, when the skies were clear and blue! I managed to catch 9M-AQX, formerly JA04AJ. So I did not leave empty handed! LaurieB 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2013 SSLee, good catches there especially the C17 which was probably returning personnel/equipment to the UK after being deployed for Ex Bersama Lima 2013.
SS Lee 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2013 Thanks Wai Ping, flee and Laurie. Really happy to have caught the two closely related C-17 (ZZ177 and ZZ178). Wai Ping, I took these photos opposite the terminal, along the industrial area. Don't think I can make it for the spotting this weekend.
SS Lee 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2013 Looks like the throttle has been on idle here for a while. Here are some updates from the Pearl of the Orient. All departures this round. LaurieB 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) SSLee, good shots. I have not been to PEN for some time and decided to go early yesterday morning. Not much light for the early arrivals and had to increase the ISO speed quite a bit. First time I have caught the Malindo.ATR. 20131221-File0062 by Janner88, on Flickr Next down the approach was Air Asia's latest aircraft, delivered on 19 December. 20131221-File0081 by Janner88, on Flickr 20131221-File0084 by Janner88, on Flickr Eva Air Cargo B744F 20131221-File0106 by Janner88, on Flickr First time catch for the Malindo B739. 20131221-File0119 by Janner88, on Flickr Then the A320 in Expedia colours from JHB. 20131221-File0135 by Janner88, on Flickr 20131221-File0152 by Janner88, on Flickr Finally, a regular visitor to PEN, Fed Ex MD11F. 20131221-File0175 by Janner88, on Flickr Edited December 22, 2013 by LaurieB

SS Lee 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2013 Nice !! Bombardier's pencil. Went to the airport on Sunday for my last spotting session...... of 2013. Sadly again, clouds were there to shield me from the scorching sunlight, and to prevent great lighting on the planes coming in. These are the best that I could come up with while pushing the camera as much as it can go. Wonder why? Airbusses galore !! This aircraft had very bright and shiny white landing lights as opposed to the normal yellowish ones on other A320s. IMG_8968e_a by sslee86, on Flickr Tigerair with new stripes (9V-TAV) I thank digital processing and digital photos for this next and last photo IMG_9015e_a by sslee86, on Flickr Cathay Pacific A330 in One World Livery (B-HLU) Had a great time spotting, even without great lighting. There were lots of people there that day. Even a tour bus filled with passengers came. That's all from my side for 2013. Happy New Year to all. SSLee

SS Lee 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 Thats an awesome spot! Makes me feel like packing my bags and heading there right now! 50mm from the action ! sweet... Yes indeed it is a sweet spot. No double fences, and no need to lift the camera far above your head to clear the fence. Is it accessible to the public or do we need to enter the cargo complex? Is it??
