Bionas Airways was formed by the Bio Oil Nasional (Bionas) Group, and will act as a carrier to complement existing Haj and umrah packages organised by Tabung Haji. Bionas Group chief executive officer Zurina Amnan said the services would be offered to pilgrims in Indonesia, Thailand and the Phillippines as well. “We are aware that there are not enough aircraft to bring Haj pilgrims to Mecca,” she said. Zurina said the firm’s venture into the aviation industry would be good for Malaysian jatropha planters. “The formation of our own airline will help accelerate the harvesting and transportation of jatropha to our warehouses more effectively,” she said in her speech during the launch of the airline at the Subang airport hangar here yesterday. Bionas has successfully developed 100% biodegradable bio-petrol and bio-diesel that is sold in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and European countries at US$855 (RM2,650) per tonne. Zurina said Bionas B20 biofuel was created by mixing japtropha oil with water, which was then blended with petrol and diesel. “We can mix up to 35% water with no corrosion to motor engines,” she said. “Our biofuel is renewable, sustainable and green.” from thestar Going to have a very diversified scope of operations From Haj packages to crop harvesting and logistics All with a Bell ? Geoff R. 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2010 If you go to http://www.bionasairways.com/galeri1.html and look closely at the bottom left image it claims "Bionas Airways Line of Fleets" - whatever that means, comprises: 1 unit Cessna 208B 4 units Bell 206B III 10 units Bo-105 3 units aeropakt (small plane) So they have a fleet 18 aircraft? Business Times cited Bionas Group Chief Executive Safi’e Jaffri as saying the firm’s unit would list on the London’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM) by the middle of this year and Barclays Bank was handling the IPO. “The money will be mainly used to expand jatropha plantings in Africa,” Safi’e was quoted as saying. Jatropha has been widely regarded as a wonder plant whose cultivation on non-arable land in Africa, Asia and Latin America could provide biofuels without using farmland. Its appeal has grown just as Brent crude oil goes above US$100 (RM304) a barrel although some industry officials say the plant depends on a lot of chemical additives and fertile soils to grow. Bionas Group, which is unlisted, was not immediately available for comment. Bionas Group started jatropha contract farming in Borneo three years ago.
