  1. Boeing announced today at the 2013 Paris Air Show that it has launched the 787-10 Dreamliner, the third member of the super-efficient 787 family. Commitments for 102 airplanes from five customers across Europe, Asia and North America provide a strong foundation to support development and production of the newest Dreamliner. Customer launch commitments for the 787-10 include Air Lease Corporation, with 30 airplanes; GE Capital Aviation Services, with 10; International Airlines Group / British Airways, with 12 subject to shareholder approval; Singapore Airlines, with 30 and United Airlines, with 20 airplanes. The new 787-10 will fly up to 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 km) covering more than 90 percent of the worlds twin-aisle routes with seating for 300-330 passengers, depending on an airlines configuration choices. The second member of the family, the 787-9, is in final assembly in Everett, Wash., and is set to make its first flight later this year. The 787-10 Dreamliner will be the most-efficient jetliner in history. The airplanes operating economics are unmatched and it has all the incredible passenger-pleasing features that set the 787 family apart as truly special, said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner. The 787-10 is 25 percent more efficient than airplanes of its size today and more than 10 percent better than anything being offered by the competition for the future. Design of the 787-10 has already started at Boeing, and international partners will be involved in detailed design in the months ahead. Final assembly and flight test of the 787-10 are set to begin in 2017, with first delivery targeted for 2018. Our ongoing investment in the 787 family is well-founded, said Conner. With the 787-10, weve designed an exceptional airplane supported by an efficient and integrated production system that can meet increasing demands and create new opportunities for us. Our team and our customers are excited about growing the product line and expanding our presence with this family of airplanes. The 787 familys unique interior offers passengers technologies that make their flights more enjoyable, including large, dimmable windows; cleaner air; higher humidity; lower cabin altitude; bigger stowage bins; soothing LED lighting and a smoother ride. The 787-10 will share a common type rating not only with the 787-8 and 787-9 but also with the popular Boeing 777, giving airlines additional flexibility in scheduling and training flight crews.
  2. Delta last week broke a company distance and time en route record after ship 3351, an Airbus A330-200, flew nonstop 10,757 statute miles from Singapores Changi International Airport to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 18 hours and 34 minutes. The flight eclipsed the previous A330-200 record for distance by approximately 200 statute miles. Ship 3351 made the record-breaking non-stop journey after receiving extensive cabin modifications adding Deltas full flat-bed seats in the BusinessElite cabin, new slim-line seats in Economy Comfort and economy class and crew rest facilities, among other cabin enhancements. The flight was operating under a ferry permit issued by the Federal Aviation Administration and did not have passengers or cargo on board. This flight demonstrates the remarkable endurance and capabilities of this aircraft and its one of the many reasons I love flying it, said Capt. Robert Bob Kitto, a Detroit-based A330 captain and the pilot in command for the first leg of the journey. A trip like this takes a significant amount of coordination by several divisions across the airline, including Flight Operations, Dispatch and Delta TechOps, and its an awesome accomplishment for Delta to have done this. DL9971 departed SIN after noon on Sunday, May 26, carrying just under a quarter million pounds of fuel to make the trans-Pacific journey. The aircraft flew northeast toward Tokyo before making the ocean crossing at 37,000 feet and entered U.S. airspace north of San Francisco. It touched down in ATL at 6:38 p.m. local time the same day. The ultra long-haul trip topped a previous A330- 200 distance record set by Qantas Airways in 2003 when the Australian carrier flew a delivery flight from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France to Melbourne. That aircraft flew under 17,000 km in just over 20 hours.
  3. Two United States holidaymakers found themselves a long way from their intended destination after an airline confused two airport codes. Sandy Valdiviseo and her husband, Triet Vo, wanted to fly from Los Angeles to Dakar in Senegal with Turkish Airlines. Instead they ended up almost 11,000km away in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, after the airport codes were mixed up, the Los Angeles Times reports. The airport code for Dakar, the capital of Senegal, is DKR, while the code for the airport in Dhaka is DAC. After arriving in Istanbul, the couple boarded a connecting flight. After seeing the route map of the flight's progress, which showed the plane over the Middle East, they realised the error. "When the flight attendant said we were heading to Dhaka, we believed that this was how you pronounced 'Dakar' with a Turkish accent," Valdivieso said. When they arrived in Bangladesh, the pair informed Turkish Airlines about the mistake, and tried to arrange a transfer to Senegal. The airline acknowledged the error and installed the couple on flights to West Africa 12 hours after their arrival in Bangladesh. Their baggage arrived in Senegal two days later. The couple have since been offered two free economy-class tickets to anywhere on the airline's flight network. - Daily Telegraph UK
  4. Wayward airliner makes destructive Auckland take-off EXPAND The LAN Chile Airbus A340 which hit runway lights at Auckland Airport. Photo / Javier Pedreira A plane has smashed runway lights during a take-off described as "extremely abnormal" at Auckland International Airport. An investigation has been launched into the Chilean airline LAN flight last Saturday, which later landed in Sydney on damaged tyres. The Transport Accident Investigation Commission confirmed the incident this week, in which the aircraft strayed from the middle of the runway during take-off and smashed several lights which stand 30cm high and line the tarmac. "It appears that a LAN Chile A340 on take-off from Auckland at about 6.20am on Saturday morning was incorrectly lined up on one edge of the runway, rather than the centre line. "As a result there was some damage to airport lighting," commission spokesman Peter Northcote told the Herald on Sunday. The lights were about 20cm to 30cm off the ground and 60m apart along the length of the runway, airport spokeswoman Katie Moore said. Aviation commentator Peter Clark said, "For an aircraft to be that far off the centre line, I would be concerned. To do that in a take-off is not normal at all. I would say it's extremely abnormal." Clark said the pilot "would've known he was off to the side of the runway, definitely". The Airbus website said A340 plane models had four engines and could seat 240 to 359 people. Airways Corporation, the State-owned enterprise responsible for the runway and lights, confirmed an Airbus A340 broke about seven runway lights. "They were repaired as soon as they were discovered," corporation spokeswoman Philippa Sellens said. The lights were worth about $355 each, putting the cost of the damage at almost $2,500. Northcote said the plane continued on, although he understood "some tyre damage" was discovered in Sydney. He said LAN was co-operating with the investigation. The commission's investigation into the "runway excursion" could take until next April to complete. The commission is currently investigating 12 rail, 14 aviation and seven marine incidents and disasters. Last January's Carterton balloon tragedy is one of the catastrophes under inquiry. LAN would not comment. - Herald on Sunday By John Weekes Email John

  8. -MRK is end-of-lease, may destined to new owner or storage. There are currently 15 772 in MH fleet makes me wonder, where's another one? MRI is taken off from schedule planning. However, it might be reactivated for umrah, if B747 MPM stuck in JED is still unserviceable. Plan to bring MPM by 27 April. The reactivation and lease costs might work against it though.
  9. Massive delay for this one, what happened? Should've arrived yesterday 5.30pm I think, but only now appearing A380 9MMNE had a long delay exLHR due to a crack at the aft cargo control panel after being hit by a baggage loader causing a 3.5 in crack. Waiting for repair and clearance from KUL engineering and Airbus industries
  10. March 5th I saw a mas 747 at Dubai airport- I think most passengers are from Indonesia. Chartered flight? Actually the flight MH8002 9MMPPP from KUL to JED diverted to DXB to offload one sick passsenger
  11. MAS will code share with other carrier. Even though load is good but MAS is still losing on NRT-LAX vv sectors. I do not have to provide a source but that's in the plan. In fact, there are routes where pax loads are good but it is not profitable, example LHR and AKL
  12. There is a strong possibility that MAS will pull out or suspend NRT-LAX vv sooner than later.
  13. MAS management has been making mistakes since day one, so history will repeat itself.
  14. It's news. People especially Americans love to have heroes.
  15. There are only 16 B737-400s left but MAS requires only 12 for operation and 1 on maintenance MQA, B and E MMA,B,D,F,G,J,K,L,U,W,X,Y and Z
  16. MIR, 9MMZA was delivered in 1993 to MAS as a pure freighter aircraft.
  17. Any of you guys know who owns or has major stake in Eaglexpress? After the Korean left, it was supposedly that some exMH pilots or Firefly pilots put in some cash.
  18. The proving flight was planned yesterday at 1500LT but was cancelled due to some documents pending DCA approval, however, it is resked for another flight this morning at 1000LT. Some "anak2 yatim will be on board"
  19. B777 involved is 9MMRO. The incident happened during taxing for takeoff. MAS has sent a rescue aircraft to PVG
  20. The passenger load on MH72 is not encouraging, worst for MH75.
  21. MAS will operate 3 times weekly to LHR initially, then once the second A380 is delivered in July, the LHR will be served daily effective Aug. MH4, morning departure will most probably be operated by B777 then. As for SYD, once the third A380 is delivered ( delayed due to work on wing cracks) the service will begin on 25 Nov
  22. 9MMPD will be returned to MAS to operate Haj together with MPQ.
  23. Good riddance. Waiting for the Chairman and the CEO to go also.
