aiyo...guys....capital 'W' or lower case 'w' will not make a difference to MAS. they are going to be 'jaguh kampung' (or village champions).... instead of taking on SQ, we have sadly decided let them break free - 'dipersilakan encik SQ'. I am really cynical now. that snack box thing has just tipped me over the edge! hahaha
  2. CI are looking to write off their fleet of 738s. Nice new livery but same pilots i guess. look at pictures in kai tak. most of the aircraft that ran off the runway were CI. Die-nasty is really funny liam...hahahaha. not funny for the passengers though.
  3. MH goes more and more backward while SQ soars high. What a sad state of affairs. at least we now have rights to serve Miri-Mulu, KK-lahad datu etc etc.
  4. agree with above - no vote, no money! Terengganu was punished that way too until it was taken over. Whatever it is - i don't expect a EZE-CPT-JNB-KUL-TGG flight anytime soon.
  5. agree with Pieter - AMS has seen consistently good loads. I cannot book a flight on MH's AMS services (considering i always book last minute). i think with MH's lack of services to other cities in the UK - lots of passengers are travelling via KLM city hopper to AMS for onward flights. I'm sure the same applies for scandinavia. what isaac says is right - maybe twice daily 772 services OR once daily A380!!! i'd go for once daily A380!!
  6. i really get more agitated each time i read the posts here. Why? I have followed the aviation scene for years and every month I try to be more optimistic and hope things will improve for KUL and MH. You know what? I'm beyond caring now. Let them do as they please. Let them lose the good will of their customers (having lost 5-6 million pax to AK already). There was a point where MH had to decide whether it wanted to be a LCC or continue as a legacy carrier. They opted for the latter. I don't see how they are differing from a LCC. My last flight with them in June highlighted all that - no more sandwiches in between meals, no menu, cheap plastic trays. Now they have decided to provide those lovely snackboxes - probably benefiting some crony or other. Munir is still there despite wasting tens of thousands of pounds on his free first class flights to london. All airlines like EK, SQ, TG, QR have lovely little menus, classy trays etc etc. Those small things add a touch of class to the service. In the long run, MH will be the ultimate losers.
  7. hahahahaha...boleh land. what a laugh! what can we do.....we'll be the LCC hub of the world. so what? who gives a s++t?
  8. Just read this on bernama.com... Singapore has concluded an open skies agreement which will allow carriers from Singapore to have unlimited flights to UK. Also they are allowed to fly unlimited destinations in the US from UK, as well as UK domestic flights. They can base aircraft in the UK for that purposes. Same for British carriers to Singapore. It comes almost two decades after singapore first requested it. hahaha.....when Malaysia decides to stop protecting MH, we might see this agreement. Otherwise - we will never become a hub. You just can't become one without open skies agreements.
  9. Mine is: 13/10 leaving HUY at 1750 transit in AMS for 2100 flight to KUL on KL0809. economy class of course. even that is too expensive
  10. mas have made a huge mistake. I have emailed them my views as i find these stupid short term measures ridiculous. they are sacrificing long term gains for quick profits (probably for the duration of IJ's reign in MH). I don't really think he cares what will happen when he leaves - as long as he leaves when MH is profitable. anyways - i'm coming home for a ten day break - leaving AMS 2100 on 13rd october arriving KUL 14th october 1440 (KL809) (flight is HUY-AMS-KUL). would like to meet you guys for spotting sometime in the week. if there is anyone spotting on the 14th don't forget to take photos of Pieter's pride! we'll see if KL is better than MH in terms of inflight services. might even do a trip report!
  11. Boxes to be filled with the top 5 choices of food as chosen by the customers, eh?? well...my top foods are: 1. nasi briyani 2. nasi goreng 3. satay ayam/daging 4. rendang daging 5. whatever else YOU want all should come with salad, desert and bun with cheese/butter. oh wait a minute... that's what we had BEFORE THIS STUPID SNACK BOX!!!
  12. yes keith - i am aware the circumstances are different. i still think that the doctor should NOT expect any fees or upgrades for medical assistance rendered. IF she was offered something as a courtesy - fine. As someone rightly mentioned - if you work at a private hospital and someone who cannot afford it attends with an emergency- it is your duty to treat him or her. as for misunderstanding - the doctor should make it clear that he expects to charge for every hour he spends with the patient. CLEAR, succint communication is essential in medical practice not least because of medico-legal issues. Communication skills are a very important aspect of medicine - and that is constantly drummed into our heads in medical school and at work. The doctor has to NEGOTIATE a management plan WITH the patient. in malaysia and the UK - doctors frequently extend small gestures towards a member of their own profession. For example - if a doctor requires treatment from another - charges are waived, especially for consultation. Some costs related to the hospitals providing services such as rooms, theatre staff and equipment etc. may still be charged BY THE HOSPITAL. Demanding a reward for helping someone who is ill is not nice. However, I agree that MH should have provided some form of compensation for her difficult 8 hour flight. MH cabin services are deteriorating as we speak. There is no such thing as 5 star at low cost. I used to be proud of MH - not anymore. I've lost faith in the current management. Let's hope that they are right in what they are doing as I don't see it that way.
  13. my dad has helped a few people during flights- including delivering a baby. he was offered upgrades but refused as he had to leave his family or friends behind. i think MAS should have offered something more than an amenity kit as courtesy. Bowel obstruction can be life threatening - and dealing with sick people for 8 hours on a plane is extremely difficult considering the lack of equipment. However, I think that the woman should not have thrown a hissy fit when not given an upgrade.... and she should not expect it. Is she australian by the way? I remember once during a holiday to australia, my dad became unwell. The hotel called a doctor in - and he was very nice. after giving my dad an injection for pain - he asked my dad if he wanted him to stay longer. My dad was pleasantly surprised, and said yes. He stayed for 3 hours and then left. Later that morning - we got a bill for AUD 150 per hour. That goes to show you how much they care about money.
  14. Idris jala can turn around an oil company - but he cannot run an airline like that. not when MH's lure has been its inflights services including excellent food and drink. no way. and the statement was proper spin as some people mentioned. what a load of bollocks. i don't want a bloody snack box - i've always supported MH but its time for me to use TG, SQ, CX. maybe AK if its cheap enough. can't we draft a protest note and send it on behalf of malaysianwings.com???
  15. look...i was reading Lee Kuan Yew's memoirs - what an eye opener that was. utusan was the voice of the malay extremism at that time - implicated in the racial riots of singapore and malaya in the 60s.
  16. I agree with KK lee - but don't forget AF also wanted to make TG defect from SA to join SkyTeam.
  17. yeah..it will be the ones who did not get a chance to 'taste' MH's GCC or First.
  18. SIA is a government company - i don't see their politicians flying free! lee kuan yew did very well to stamp out corruption within his government. its about time we did something too.
  19. Thanks keith - i thought as much. I don't understand why AF is being so obstructive when some of the other members of sky team (recently accepted) are not in the same league as MH.
  20. saving 2 million ringgit a quarter (or 8 million a year) on catering is nothing compared to the wages they pay their senior managers (see previous articles on this forum) and the money they lose by allowing senior people and politicians to fly FREE OF CHARGE in their first class. that's why there's no money made on first and GCC. its not because they can't fill seats - its because they CAN'T FILL SEATS WITH PAYING PAX. get rid of some of the baggage at the top - they don't need to be there. tell them to get a real job.
  21. i agree with rozhan - i was always impressed with the meals they served on long domestic flights eg. KUL - BKI. This will only serve to 'cheapen' MH's image. I understand that BA and LH have similar snack boxes but this is the major difference between them and the Asian carriers - inflight services!! I think Peter read was ex-BA. dunno if he's still with MH. paying big bucks for a mat salleh when you have many capable locals such as JJ ong. (sorry - i keep mentioning his name - i'm sure there are many more with years of experience who have been sidelined).
  22. so pieter - do you think that there is a proper plan in place for MH to join Sky Team? not just some random route chopping exercise?
  23. agree that the main problem is HIGH management overheads. too many idiots running the show - too many overpaid foreign consultants who have not helped to improve MH's situation in the least. as mentioned before - JJ ong was a LOCAL who managed to turn around the fortunes of MASKargo. why can emirates and qatar airways have european managers who have the vision and foresight to continually improve the airline. why can SIA have LOCAL people with vision and foresight? MH's bosses are too comfortable with their positions - draining more money out of the ailing airline while kicking out deserving people who do the legwork. Its not about LCC cost - MH said categorically it is not an LCC. Why are they fixated on competing with one instead of focussing of SQ and EK?
  24. MH is really going downhill - rather than up its game and increase services to get more paying pax - they have downsized in terms of staff, aircraft, assets, inflight services in order to save a few bucks. while that may be the case during Mr. Jala's tenure - I think this profit they are making will not last long as its just a temporary fix to the problem. selling six jumbos will give you lots of money for sure. getting rid of many routes which they didn't even give a chance to work is another. Manchester has a HUGE catchment area - at least 1 million in greater MAN and 1.2 million in Leeds/Bradford, 1 million in East Yorkshire. Also the Northwest and Northeast england!!!! HUGE. Emirates can make it with multiple flights to London, birmingham, manchester, glasgow AND EVEN newcastle. come on Idris. get your act together. THEY CAN'T EVEN MAKE LONDON WORK! THEIR VERY OWN FLAGSHIP ROUTE - MH 001 for god's sake. All other airlines are struggling to get more services to LHR. We have been gifted 100 000 pax/year from BA - still MH is struggling with their cheap shitty plastic trays. The meal service has definitely gone downhill over the last few years - i used to be extremely proud of MH's meals as compared to BA, SQ, QF, and EK during my trips to and fro UK the past ten years. I was shocked with the cheap trays and the lack of tasty deserts on the flights I took in June. THAT is LONG HAUL. Imagine snack boxes for regional routes. Forget 5 star with LCC cost. that is the most irritating statement ever made. That made me go off Idris Jala. Look at SIA's inflight services. Look at their plans for the A380. in fact - look at their CURRENT 77W services!!!! my god. we can either up our game or start comparing our services to GARUDA, PHillipine airlines (which is buying more 773s) and Biman bangladesh. (no offence to fans of those airlines but you have to agree their services are s#1t). JJ Ong - who managed to turn around MASKargo is also gone now. Since he has gone - they have less aircraft and they have cut back on lots of freighter routes - for e.g. Manchester, Basle, Milan Malpensa. Dubai is getting cut off as well. How are they going to increase freight through KUL - we have been stuck at 650 - 670 000 tonnes/annum. singapore is handling 1.9 million tonnes now. if they can't make dubai (another freighter hub) work - how will they make Tashkent work???? so they sacrifice the connections from major African/middle eastern and European markets for a few goats and chickens from Baku, Dushanbe or Bishkek??? what the hell are they thinking??? I have been following malaysia's aviation scene for many many years now - just when i think it will get better- somed10t shows up with ludicrous ideas. AK will surely profit now - MAN, ZRH, maybe FRA, IST, DME, CAI, NGO, FUK.......god knows where else. This systematic purge of MH's routes stinks of something. I hope Radzi is NOT right - but deep down, i know what he's saying is true. Happy fasting! just my tuppence worth...
  25. radzi - that is indeed a scary thought. it is so shocking that I can actually believe it. I've seen how the government suddenly became very receptive towards TF's half assed ideas - i'm not surprised really if that is the case. Look at the RAS scandal. I don't want MH to lose out to AK at all. TF is lying when he talked about operating niche markets that MH won't fly to. So far he's keen on australia, china, UK and i think i read somewhere Hong Kong, south korea and japan. hmmm... it doesn't seem so strange now. you've got me thinking radzi!
