  16. From the article as below, it seems the PM Najib wants it to be end of June... SEPANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today announced that the new low-cost airport, dubbed KLIA2, will be launched on June 28 this year, co-inciding with the launch date of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in 1998. The premier said the airport was scheduled to be ready by May this year, but the operations would not be rushed as there were some teething issues to be solved before its opening. "We should go through some of the teething problems with the new terminal and once it is ready, then KLIA2 will be fully operational. "As a target, I have decided that it should co-incide with the date of the opening of KLIA. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to open KLIA2 on June 28," he said. Najib said this at the launching of a specially designed 1Malaysia AirAsia aircraft livery to commemorate the start of 1Malaysia Integration Programme with AirAsia at the LCCT (Low-Cost Carrier Terminal) here today. Also present were Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, AirAsia's Group Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad. Bashir said MAHB welcomed the prime minister's decision not to rush the opening of the KLIA2 and to coincide it with the opening date of KLIA. He said all issues pertaining to the new airport were expected to be settled before the opening date to avoid even any minor glitches during operations. "We do not want to rush. I think the prime minister has the same thought in mind. We have seen many airports worldwide fail because they were rushed into operations. "It is something exciting also if the date coincides (KLIA & KLIA2), as it will be a double celebration for us at MAHB," Bashir said. The RM3.6 billion KLIA2, built to cater for the explosive growth expected in low-cost travel, is sprawled over 257,000 sq metres and is envisaged to handle a maximum of 45 million passengers a year. The airport will have 60 gates, eight remote stands, 80 aerobridges, plus a retail space covering 32,000 sq metres to accommodate 225 retail outlets. -- BERNAMA Read more: KLIA2 to be opened on June 28 - Latest - New Straits Times http://www.nst.com.my/latest/klia2-to-be-opened-on-june-28-1.196537#ixzz2H5cvJCbe
  17. That's still a BIG figure of 737-400 airframe which remains active, I just hope they will be gone for permanent as soon as possible! Is a no brainer for MH to upgrade to 737-800 for all domestic operation stage by stage and then use back 737-400 after March 2013...Think of what the passengers would think for those had sampled the new planes, would they want to fly back those smarties?
  18. Checked MH E-timetable, the flights are already there as displayed above; but not yet in the inventories system yet (not yet opened for booking even for next week flight.).
  19. For MASwings' ATR 72 operation, the question is does LMN and MZV fits an ERJ or a CRJ? That's the only 2 airstrips that come to my mind whether they are capable to handle a jet or not if MASwings are considering "mini-jets"...
  20. Is just a matter of time from their judgement regarding how long can the remaining mighty Otters can fly...is simply too old already... Nice! looks like turborpop services / business is growing strong in Malaysia...merely 5 years plus another orders and larger than the previous one...Will watch for Firefly and MASwings growth...
  21. KUDAT: The Federal Government is still studying carefully MASwings’ application to start flying to new destinations within the BIMP-EAGA, namely from Kota Kinabalu to Balikpapan and from Kuching to Balikpapan in Kalimantan, Indonesia. Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said the proposal needed to be studied in detail, including taking into account the preparedness of MASwings and its existing number of aircraft. This is to ensure that MASwings’ commitment to rural air services, which is a contractual service through the Federal Government for the people of Sabah and Sarawak, cannot be compromised as this would raise the ire of the Sabah and Sarawak people, he told Bernama after a gathering at Kampung Tanjung Kapor, near here, yesterday. Nevertheless, Abdul Rahim said the Transport Ministry remained committed to the BIMP-EAGA member countries’ plans to enhance air connectivity in the region. BIMP-EAGA or the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East Asia Growth Area is a regional economic integration initiative. Meanwhile, Abdul Rahim said Malaysia is on the right track for continued economic growth as it has attracted commerce that will bring prosperity to the people and country. He said as such, the people should maintain the peace and stability by avoiding disruptive politics. “A country in turmoil will be shunned by visitors and ultimately have implication on the economy and people,” he said after officiating a mass circumcision ceremony at Kampung Tanjong Kapor, near here yesterday. Rahim who is also Member of Parliament for Kudat, urged the people to be involved in tourism activities, including the homestay programme. “Since Kudat has become a popular tourist destination, the people should seize the opportunity by exploiting the natural beauty for economic gain,” he said.-Bernama Read more: http://www.theborneopost.com/2012/12/10/govt-still-looking-at-maswings-proposal/#ixzz2EkEsYszG What you guys think for the highlighted paragraphs? Judging from the recently amended ATR's scedules, I can see that more "combined flights" are being introduced in order to "make way" for the new flights before more planes come in....
