  1. Now im getting nothing for Malaysia - perhaps its been taken down
  2. I trust the old 734's so no issue from me but it was interesting to compare the new vs old interior especially because it was my first time on one of the new MAS 738's.
  3. Was that Fridays flight? If yes we were a good way into the takeoff roll before the reversers were deployed
  4. I spotted a couple of flights over Penang just now on flightradar24.com. Perhaps we have another radar online?
  5. Last night a nice new 738 aborted its take of run at SIN due to a tech fault which then resulted in a 6.5 hour delay. The effect was felt today as well because MH602 was also cancelled. Despite MAS handling the situation badly I still feel safe with them and I'm thankful the pilot aborted rather than tried to take off. I'm still curiours what the issue was?
  6. Has anybody on here tried to get upgrades on MH and D7 using Option town: https://www.optiontown.com It seems a fairly good idea and is much cheaper than a business class fare with low risk. A friend just visited London on D7 and didn’t get the upgrade but I’ve read many reports which say it’s possible and that the site isn’t a scam.
  7. Yes I remember it making the UK newspapers Some links from the archives: http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/1999/05/19/51332/malaysia-airlines-low-fuel-danger-spans-two-years.html http://www.independent.co.uk/news/jetfuel-scandal-report-blocked-1110180.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/339810.stm http://www.limkitsiang.com/archive/1999/may99/sg1766.htm http://archives.californiaaviation.org/airport/msg00187.html
  8. Quick question - does anybody know if row 1 on FY's ATR-72 have more legroom than the standard rows. I usually sit at the back to get off quickly but find the leg room a little tight. Also whenever I try and book a SZB-SIN flight it seems to add RM10 insurance and I cannot see how this is selected or removed. I guess I will need to call them on the morning
  9. http://www.flightcentric.com/FC/FCNews/Filipino-carriers-lobby-for-KL-rights-2153.aspx The Philippines' local carriers are lobbying for greater a capacity on flights to Malaysia despite the intimidating presence of AirAsia, Asia’s largest budget airline. Zest Air is aiming to offer 900 seats Manila to Kuala Lumpur weekly this year increasing to 1260 seats flight a week by next year after filing a petition with the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB). However, the decision of CAB to restrain air talks is delaying ZestAir’s pursuit to launch new routes, due to the traffic applications by other local carriers AirPhil, Seair and Cebu Pacific to the board. AirPhil has applied for a 1260 seats Manila- Kuala Lumpur weekly route and an additional 720 seats a week for flights from Manila to other points in Malaysia. SeaAir has also requested rights to 2520 seats a week for Clark – Kuala Lumpur and another 1260 seats for Clark to Kota Kinabalu. Meanwhile, 720 seats per week are being sought by Cebu Pacific for Manila – Kuala Lumpur. CAB executive director Carmelo Arcilla said the board will not open a negotiation for additional seats for flights to Malaysia although local carriers are filing large number of requests. “We just have to distribute the seat entitlements that we have. We’re still studying and conducting hearings to come up with a rational decision in granting the seats. We only have limited seats and there is also a limited market,” Arcilla said. Malaysian carriers have been given unlimited traffic rights by the Philippines last June. It was the first grant by the country after Aquino administration approved the open-skies policy in March. To counterbalance, Philippine carriers have been allowed 2520 seats between Manila and Kuala Lumpur weekly.
  10. I agree with you. On a personal level whilst price is important so is the product. When EK and SQ can offer cheaper fares to LHR with only a few hours added to the travel time then its an easy decision. In November my family are visiting and would have liked to travel MAS however the following put them off: 1. Cost - MAS wanted GBP850-890 for a LHR-KUL ticket. EK were charging GBP550-680 and SQ 690-750 2. Product - old planes and a decline in Y class product
  11. The question I have is when you book within 48 hrs you cannot use web/self/mobile checkin. In this instance are we still charged RM10?
  12. Whilst its good for KUL I would have no desire to fly them due to their crap economy product. MH, EK or SQ are lightyears ahead.
  13. MH1 is a pretty busy flight and moving it to a 777 is crazy. Just checked the MAS site for Nov/Dec and its still listed as a 744

    MI to USM

Indeed they have... as mentioned above

I think it's more to do with a lack of competition than airport fees.

Just curious how much different the fees are?

I did read that Bangkok airways was supposed to be starting this route either this year or next. There is no reason why Samui wouldn't be as popular as Phuket IMHO
  18. I missed this last week… MI to fly SIN-USM http://www.silkair.com/mbe/en_UK/content/corporate/newsflash/NF1001_13072011.jsp This has got me thinking as to why don't MAS or Air Asia don’t fly there? At the moment Malaysians are constrained to take either a FY or J8 slow turbo prop flight from SZB at a less than optimal schedule.
  19. Its conformed on the EK website - EK346/7 now showing as A380
  20. Ive just arrived back on AK722 and had the same thing and then at midnight there was a fair queue for immigration. After paying for an expensive taxi I find there is a also a fairly big queue
  21. So if an A330 is too big then why not give the route to AK?
