  2. Taken using my HTC. Sorry for the low quality. Was doing casual spotting with my family.Anjung Tinjau was crowded today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xh9NrtvgpE
  3. The Su-30MKM is an obvious choice to replace the Mig29N since RMAF already operate 18 Su-30MKM. However, as someone has pointed out previously, any major defence purchase should be postponed until after the 13th General Election
  4. The dark grey RMAF F5E is the most beautiful birds over Butterworth of all. I'm saying as someone who use to live in Butterworth for more than a decade
  5. I agree with Mushrif. Part of perks for the job. Shouldn't be much of an issue. But that doesn't mean I like him though!
  6. I'm not sure going or not, but I still vote for... BKK 1. Hon Kit 2. flee 3. Pieter C. 4. KC Sim 5. Keith Ng 6. Vu Loc 7. WaiPing 8. Simon 9. Fitri Shukri
  7. What time does the program starts and end Capt? I can extend my balik kampung to Terengganu for this event. How can MWingers assist during the event?
  8. That is if the US will allow AESA radars to be sold to Malaysia and if the Russian can build its AESA on time for the Sukhois. Our Su30MKM is still using PESA radars. I believe, if the MRCA for RMAF were to proceed, it will be influenced by India's MRCA competition results which will be a showdown of Eurofighter Typhoon and Dassault Rafale after the Indian ruled out Boeing FA-18E/F, Saab JAS-39, MiG-35 and the Lockheed F-16E/F. One key requirement for India's MRCA is AESA radars must be available on time. One reason Dassault lost the Rafale to Boeing F-15SG for Singapore air force is due to lack of Rafale's AESA radars for the specific time given by the Singaporean.
  9. I believe a responsible government and leadership will provide both... a strong and modern armed forces and world class quality education for the masses. What good it is if more money to be channeled to education only for the politicians to decides on key education policy? Having a strong armed forces is not just for war. In peaceful times, it is more as a deterrent force and stabilizing factor in regional peace. Apart from that, Malaysia, along with many of our neighbor are expected to play a more active role in peacekeeping and UN mission overseas. Traditionally, Malaysia have been very active in peacekeeing roles, mainly by our Army and Police. However, as demonstrated in Libya (No Fly Zone mandated by UN, enforced by NATO and allies with US playing a minor role) can possibly happen in South East Asia too. Who knows RMAF, together with likes of RSAF, RAAF and TNI-AU will be requested by UN to patrol NFZ above Myanmar or Spratly in the near future!
  10. With the 'biometric system' to be introduced in the coming general election, we can count that the next defence minister and prime minister could most probably be the same guy!
  11. IMHO, the Typhoon, Rafale aand Su-35 (latest version, still under testing) have 'supercruise'. In the poll above, I didn't include the F-22 which the US won't even sell to their closest allies and the F-35 which Malaysia might not even stand a chance of getting any promotional brochures from Lockheed Buying the most advance figghter aircrat alone is not enough. Malaysia seriously needs AEW&C / AWACS aircraft to complement what fighter it has. BTW, as in Libya, its the Rafales that is the star of the campaign. In terms of cost, Saab JAS-39 Gripen is the most cost effective in terms of price per unit, operational cost and simplicty of operations (can operate from roads). Which is why Thailand bought a few units as a precursor to purchasing a few squadron later on to replace their F-16s. I think for a country like Malaysia, purchasing JAS-39 with AEW&C and adding a few more refueling aerial tankers (Malaysia has two C-130 converted to tankers) is better than a standalone Typhoon squadron.
  12. From The Malaysia Insider Lets help the Defence Minister make his selection... I choose the Su-35 to pair with JAS 39NG Gripen.
  13. Those are RMAF's birds. I wonder whether RMAF Sukhoi 30 MKM were included in the Bersama Sheild air exercise?
  14. Thanks Tamizi. But isn't Tanjung Manis and Mukah two different town?
  15. Out of topic, I wonder, of all places, why would any Malaysian want to study in Libya?
  16. The General Election is near. So get used to "building new airport" announcement by politicians.
  17. Sorry to be sceptical, but how long will this venture last?
  18. In 2010, I achieved my 2009 resolution, that is to give my two daughters their first ever experince flying in an aircraft. In fact, I got more, my son (which was born in March 2010) also joined in. First was a flight on MH's B737-400 (KUL-KBR), then my wife bought my second daughter and son on FY's ATR 72 (SZB-KBR) and finally AK's A320 (KUL-KCH-KUL). As for 2011, I have only one resolution : Fly to Tianjin (Beijing) on D7 (in July 2011)
