  1. The sad thing is.. KLIA2 is perhaps completely un-necessary. The existing KLIA MTB Contact Pier can be extended on either end accomodating an additional 20 Narrow-body airplanes. Furthermore, the SAT B would've provided much more space. The area south of TWY H could have been made into remote parking bays for overnighting aircraft. No proper analysis of daily stand utilisation has been done. The MTB automated baggage system is becoming outdated and inefficient, not to mention it frequently breaks down. The airport is in a state of disrepair - toilets never changed since 1998. Cramped passage ways in SAT A as a result of increased floor and retail space. No real unique traits. Monopolised and expensive duty free. Cheap and tacky looking modifications made to check-in desks - on top of underutilisation of check-in islands. Airport in the forest/forest in the airport concept forgotten (at least they made the jungle boardwalk)- inside the terminals is cold/hard and unwelcoming. access roads and gardens in a horrendous state - road barriers falling apart/missing links and lighting fixtures missing. Runway grassed edges never cut - lalang everywhere... looks worse than Jakarta... Horrible Horrible Horrible Horrible in comparison to its gleam and shine in 1998... just 13 years ago.. On top of that, our friends at MAHB want to build commercial centres on land reserved for future airport development - because apparently the ERL lines are too high.... Wasted. In addition, no plans by MOT to upgrade DCA infrastructure and Lumpur ACC facilities for the perceived expansion. Frequent radar breakdowns across Malaysia and especially at KUL. No proper dual mode-runway operation system in effect, yet introducing a third runway.... What lah Malaysia... simply wasting money. Money that could have been better spent on improving existing world-class worthy infrastructure and pinning the nation on the map to aviation success. Instead, no maintenance culture now, so we build more to have more rotting infrastructure in 10 years time.. Good job! Keep up the excellent work. idiots...
  2. Changi is tight. Lots of hotspots. Gotta be careful.
  3. Source: Straits Times Source: CAPA Well... looks like the Johor Straits Air-War may officially kick off. SCOOT has just announced its FIRST destination will be SYDNEY. Wonder how the reaction will be from TF? Also, I can suspect that with the present high volume of talks between Joyce/Fernandes and the new team at MAS (Not remembering their names until they stick it out and turn the airline around) that the Minister of Transport will be urged to give up this sector to AirAsiaX! I can only imagine that this really is a tit-for-tat move, but strategic none-the-less for SCOOT. SQ loads into SYD are reasonably healthy in the premium end, and I suspect this will open the eyes of JetStar (who recently launched SIN-PEK) and QF who enjoys healthy loads too on SYD-SIN albeit with transfer traffic to Europe.
  4. For prospective future installation and as sheltered rampways for passengers to walk to their aircraft for departure. Structurally, shouldn't cost much - but we all know that this will most likely have added to the seemingly bursting budget.
  5. The problems of MAS paradoxically mirror that of an iceberg floating in the ocean... what we can see above the surface are the clear-cut operational inefficiencies such as fleet utilisation, excess staff, rubbish branding, second-rate (at times even third-rate) product etc. The amount of hidden mass of problems beneath the surface of the water is troubling - and is seemingly, the largest burden facing the carrier. Scaringly, I honestly now believe that MAS is doomed to collapse and ruin within a very short time. ASEAN open-skies is impending in 2015 and not suprisingly, given all else it has to worry about, we haven't heard of any plans to deal with this game-changer. Some fingers and reputations will be burn't, but all that lays beneath the water will simply sink to the bottom of the ocean and lay there almost never to be revealed. It is hoped lessons from cases such as the collosal collapses of Pan-Am/TWA/Ansett/Varig/Sabena/Swissair et. al. would be echoing through the ears of Ministers and MAS board members alike. However, again I fear that if you asked some of these 'influential' decision makers about the above - they would simply reply "Siapa?" and go on with their 'tiada-apa' attitude. Salute however to the still sterling reputations of MAS Flight Operations, MAS Engineering & MAS Cabin Crew Division! In my opinion - you guys are very much the pillars of success in the company - and if it were to happen - a rebirth would definately be found from within your walls! Safe Landings!
  6. RM1.5 Billion under private financing initiatives seems a lot if they are extending the existing spur line which makes perfect sense.. Must have budgeted lots for Land acquisition as based on the location of Spirit Aerosystems, the existing Airport Hangar and MAS infrastructure, there doesn't seem to be much room for the train line unless it is underground and comes up opposite skypark at the existing open air car park. This is where I believe they want to situate the station based on a glimpse of older master plans.
  7. Shoot one straight away. Keep trying. I take it you weren't successful in the first round?
  8. Fast evolving situation. Will be interesting to see how SIN copes, because right now, it's bursting and traffic delays are getting longer! Plus, rumors are rife that the AOC For AirAsia.SG will be approved in Feb paving the way for a permanent base in Changi. CAAS, T4 and access to Runway 3 please!
  9. Another reason for making KL their choice - is apron space. If you've been to Changi lately, you'll realise that this is something the airport could really do with more of. Attended a meeting yesterday whereby CAAS highlighted that in the last 12 months, delays (>15mins) have increased dramatically - owing to more than just apron space of course - but this would naturally be a major factor in Qantas' decision making. I'm not sure how KLIA measures up for non-technical delays, but as mentioned in another thread, ATC spacing & sequencing at KLIA could be enhanced with perhaps better infrastructure. With regards to apron space - I think the go-ahead for QF in KUL and success in their business model could spell fortunes for the much beligned Satellite B complex. Plus... KLIA will have 3 dedicated runways for civil ops - something I think Changi might start drooling over.
  10. Hi Toy Toong, There is no Maths or Physics tests. Only the standard company psychomotor skills tests. Cheers.
  11. Please stop posting 'random' stories... There is a thread on in-flight meals already, although 100% not related, this would hv been better placed there... Really irritating.
  12. With such a design... I see an exponential increase in the chance of a wing strike. Looks cool - but so did the original dreamliner concept.
  13. Long haul Aussie base? Hmmmm... Perhaps a prelude to those earlier mentioned A321 chance order. These guys are ambitious bu not dumb. Love how they have built the brand, sold on the concept and spread the financial risk whilst maintaining profits.. Textbooks will be re-written!
  14. Apologies: OFF TOPIC. I think that was inherent in my first reply to you. Each country has its pros and cons. I don't trust politicians ANYWHERE and I've lived in three countries so far. Whilst the pros for Singapore may outweigh those of Malaysia - with respect to politicians being of higher calibre down south - well, its a subjective argument - but I don't think so. The fact is, there are qualified persons in parliament - some with vision and a sense of duty - but there are many that are just seat warmers, and come out with rip-snorters that inflame the public. The political landscape in Singapore is not as different from that of Malaysia. Politicians down south are more board members of a corporation and citizens are the employees of said corporation. The recent election here goes to show you what Singaporeans themselves think of their long-serving politicians. The future of both countries is set to be interesting with some sense of reform taking place in both. Don't just judge a book by its cover. If you haven't already - come down here, live here as you would live in Malaysia and realises the pros and cons for yourself. BACK TO TOPIC: Well, looks like Scoot will be trying to make in-roads into India. Understand that Hyderabad/Amritsar/Ahmedabad and possibly even Chennai/Mumbai/Delhi are on the radar. Whilst there may be many Indian carriers operating wide-bodies into SIN - the fact is, I often here them departing with less than 100 POB. So IndiGo's plans with the A320 seem more realistic.
  15. Hi Everyone. Something we seldom focus our attention on in MalaysianWings in Air Traffic Control. ATC and Air Traffic Management (ATM) are as core an ingredient to the success of the industry as is airport infrastructure and competently run airlines. We now see the expansion of KLIA to include KLIA2 - A new third runway to be in operation. Increasing congestion is prevalent in the Lumpur Terminal Area especially at times. Morning and Evening peak periods for airways clearance and departures are frustrating to airlines operations and passengers. In the past year, KLIA and parts of the peninsular have been victim to multiple radar control failures resulting in delays and adding cost burdens to airlines and passengers alike. New technology is being embraced amidst our regional neighbors in ATM, however, we don't hear of or see any new investment in LUMPUR/KINABALU ATC services. The digital era in ATC communications is only half embraced with much of it full potential yet to be realized. Anyone here from DCA or anyone affiliated with ATC able to share with us what the future of ATC/ATM in Malaysia holds, please feel free to share. No point having the worlds best LCC/worlds best airport if we can't efficiently manage the skies above. what say you?
  16. They may have emulated LHR & HKG in the form of pax numbers and airport design/ building efficiency. What I wish they will emulate is the air traffic control efficiency of those two airports. Sitting at/near the RWY hold point for 1 hr is no fun. Furthermore, sitting at the gate for 3 hrs waiting for push back is even worse. To put salt in the wound, all the local carriers are given speedy clearances and cut queue blatantly - albeit asinstructed by ATC. Looking at China's achievements in thepast decade or so - I believe they can achieve greatness in their ATM. Here's hoping DCA Malaysia & MOT can do the same for us in KL and Malaysia wide too.
  17. Hopefully with the new airport, the military over there can release some more airspace for civillian use and the efficiency of the Beijing Airports (and other Chinese Mainland airports) could perhaps emulate LHR/JFK/LAX/AMS/FRA/NRT/HND & even HKG! Right now.. it's just a-fricken-nightmare in the Terminal Area on approach and on the taxiways waiting to take-off.
  18. Can change what's already happening. Let's just wait and see what happens!
  19. Yup, just be sure to enter airside via T1 Immigration Point. Once in, you can walk or take the aerotrain to T2/T3 via D/C pier respectively.
  20. I respectfully disagree, Sir.Knowing the business is as core to success as wheat is to bread! I think the difference with TF is that he made a concerted effort to understand the aviation business because of his personal risk exposure to the enterprise. appointed CEOs command a base salary with performance related benefits and answer to shareholders with no real personal risk to the CEO themselves except of course to credibility and viability -This is of course where Malaysia differs to many other places in the world - accountability of past And present CEOs seems to be guarded by higher powers, particularly more so with GLCs. There needs to be a structural shift in this regard before real sustainable progress is made. Until then, we'll probably still see corporate and operational performance of MAS and other similar companies see-saw through time.
  21. Scoot? I don't know.... I associate it with telling someone to 'get lost' - as in Scoot.... I think they tried too much to have 'SQ' sound in the title... Perhaps Scooter would have been a better branding given it's associations with Asia and it is a cheap and effective means of getting about in a dash? Would be better if they called it SQooter hahaha
  22. Perhaps there is quick & less painful way to vastly reduce staff numbers on the airlines payroll - slice it up to become independent companies under the MH Group umbrella. This will also permit a better accounting means of seeing which divisions bleed more than the others. It would also permit more targeted investment opportunities by outside companies in MAS & boost competitiveness within the group. Ground handling services should be spun off across Malayia into a company that mimics SATS in Singapore, Toll DNATA in DXB, LSG of. Lufthansa. In fact, partners amongst these experienced players should be sought to help bolster operations and contribute to the bottom line there. Easily, Malaysia Wide, the staff numbers at the incumbent parent airline MAS would decrease by 8,000! Heck, MAHB themselves should be an investor in such an operation to boost their aeronautical source of revenue and take up the slack for the requirement of airport staff at many of their underperforming airports across Malaysia. Catering should also be bought back and revamped as the present Brahims deal is disgustingly corrupt and perceivingly inefficient. MAS Engineering should be given more freedom to operate independently and should consider a separate listing to MAS on the local bourse. Further partnerships and expansion would consolidate Malaysias position as an MRO hub. the same should happen over at MASKargo. I think operationally as an airline with focus on flight operations and cabin in flight services, the airline will find more neck space to breathe and operating profit will see a return to black. The new CEO should IMHO be financially minded but operationally flexible to make confident investment decisions to securevthe future of MAS. This may be a good way for the government o perhaps showcase it's true firm belief in th 1Malaysia concept and be prepared to place any Malaysian ofany ace as the CEO. Heck, even a Malayian from overseas as part of the government incentive to bring Malaysians home? My few cents from my armchair.
  23. yes, that is correct, Sir. All the 777-212 are the original IGW @ ER spec, but the SQ* & SR* series are fixed derated to 84k Thrust. SV* series are full ER plus SRN & I think SQI post software mod. The 777-312 are RR Trent 892s, but of course all th 77W fleet (SW*) are GE90-115B powered as it is the only engine available for the type.
  24. Yeehaa. Was a long time coming for this order...
