  1. looks like Air Asia and Air Asia X will gain more passengers and reduced frequencies from MAS and seems like too AK fares have been inching upwards. And for like Male, it will be only AK that will serve this route. It would be even harder in near future when MAS have solved most of its rationalization and woes and try to regain back its regional network - as by then AK will be more entrench in such regional routings.
  2. Well guess they would have looked into it and rationalized that BNE is not making money. MAS may likely reduce frequencies to some of its Australian cities too.
  3. Jetstar Asia (3K) will me moving from KLIA to KLIA2 from 8 July.
  4. Yes unfortunately they took out the 10am SIN-KUL to use for this SIN-IPH flight which is a great loss to SIN-KUL. I have doubt this new service will be successful as now with Tiger in the fray first, am not sure how malindo can fare. Even when Firefly was flying this route with its 70 seater ATR, its load was not full except over long weekends and weekends - so its hard to see how with tiger 180 seater A320 and Malindo 738 can sustain with such a huge increase in seats.
  5. it will be interesting to see if this service from SIN to Ipoh can sustain 2 jet carriers and a turboprop in the mid run. Not sure of there's that kind of capacity between the pair destinations.
  6. Given a choice, who would like to fly a tight 738 to HKG than a on a wide bodied aircraft. Luckily CX still offers few daily flights to HKG on their A333s/777s. It's interesting that MH cant even fill up a A333 when CX can still operate up to 3 daily.
  7. Also the main fact is that MAS PR dept did not do a good job of explaining - and its always after the fact that other media have reported its incident way before MH PR decides to issue a press release - in fact on the MH A330 which did a heavy landing in Melbourne was not even reported in local media! But the Qantas A380 incident over change/batam was indeed a very serious incident and was the first of its kind to have happened to a A380 when its engine blew up and affected its flight control systems.
  8. It will be good if MH can collaborate wit AK on baggage/ground handling and MRO. For ground handling AK costs would be lower than MH in terms of manpower costs but on aircraft MRO it will be limited to the A330s only as for the smaller narrow body aircrafts MH uses the 738s whilst AK uses the A320s.
  9. not sure if it is economically viable to just have 4 A380s flying as that would mean maintenance will still need to have its people and equipment to just maintain 4 frames and having a small number of tech crew who will just fly only KUL-LHR. If MAS intedns to sell 2 frames, it would be better to get rid of the whole 6 frames. Otherwise, the manpower and costs for maintaining just 4 frames does not look economically the best way to do so.
  10. this is exactly the point which I am trying to say that there is not enough demand for BA to send in a A380 to KUL, and that's why we see them sending it to our nearest like Changi and not KUL
  11. BA have upgraded its flight to A380 to SIN already
  12. Qatar will make its 1st debut A350 into Changi, Singapore today.
  13. finally the "new management" have come to its senses to dispose of its 6 A380s which it should have never bought in the very first place which was then a more of "an image" thing and that because SIA have it therefore MAS should also fly the latest and biggest plane. MAS is also selling off 2 747Fs and 4 A330Fs and 4 772s. Only thing is how long can MAS will serve its LHR and AMS and Paris routes etc with its remainder aeging 772s. Looks like more route cuts, but the main and critical issue is still with the employees head count and how many can MAS management really gets to cut as doubt it will be able to eliminate the 6,000 as planned.
  14. not sure if this is the right thing by letting go of Frankfurt while keeping some other less "popular" routes. If this sector is not profitable, then even Lufthansa would have scrapped the service to and from KUL long ago - and of course now Lufthansa is smiling all the way as MH no longer fly this route by end May. Perhaps its best that MH stops all its European flights and code-share with other airlines - save for its London service.
  15. cant imagine that MAS will drop Frankfurt and yet still maintain Istanbul???
  16. currently only Firefly flies 2 times daily from SIn-IPH and vv. Not sure Tiger's schedule or frequency per week. But would think a A320 with 180 pax seats will be too big a capacity for Ipoh.
  17. Doubt airlines willbring back a 3 man tech crewin the flight deck for regional or flights less than 7 - 8 hours. this is mainly due to the cost factor as bringing in a 3rd pilot will cost the airlines substantially.
  18. But there be only MAS and BA who offers direct Non-stop service from KUL to LON
  19. its very likely that with the additional millions, the Malaysian new aircraft will be even much better fittings than those in the pictures above. Wonder if it will have gold-plated taps and toilet bowls too in the lavatories!
  20. believed most airlines do practice of having a cabin crew or a relief pilot (if onboard) to be in the flight deck when one of the pilots leave the flightdeck. It will serve as a good deterrent against intrusion and to assist the only pilot if necessary. But then again if any rogue pilot is bent on doing any evil deeds, then he can still over-power the other crew who is in the cockpit too or even in the case of a 2 man tech crew - one of the other pilot can still over=power and render the other unconscious. However have seen in one airline that goes just a bit further in that when a pilot leaves the cockpit, a crew will go in as SOP and then another crew will push a cart in front and blocking the access to the cockpit. That was shortly after the 911 incident, but have not seen this done in the last couple of years. Also note that the ill-fated Germanwings A320 was 24 years old - which makes it one of the oldest A320 still in service - as many airlines even other budget carriers have retired their A320s before reaching even 20 years and there have even been A320s that were scrapped and or sent to the dessert only after 15 years in service. It is surprising that for Lufthansa/Germanwings to be still using a 24 year-old A320.
  21. This plane was flown back on 25 Mar at a low attitude of 18,000 ft and at 315kts. MAS did not have a press release of this hard landing incident as don't think was even reported in the local press. It will be interesting to find out if ever MH does report as to why the hard landing.
  22. As have anticipated one of MAS Unions - Nufam representing the cabin crew have already given notice that they will stage a picket soon and that will ground all of MH flights over the sacking of 6,000 staff. And am sure there will be other unions joining in the fray - and Khazanah will most likely have to give in and reduce signifcantly its planned reduction of staff or if Khanazah have the guts to let staff go on picket strike and ground MAS for a few days to weeks.
  23. this is just typical Malaysia Boleh - having 2 govt A319 jets - allows one for PM to use and another for his wofe to use perhaps. But anyway what is a few million or rm100 million to Najib govt - as 1MDB have accumulated supposedly rm41 BILLION losses in just less than 10 years during Najib term - this is more than 20 years of MAS accumulated losses and bailouts of rm16 Billion. Do you know how many A320s can be bought for that kind of money !
  24. Nowadays need to check fares on MAS first - then AK - as I just check for flights from KUL to CAN (Guangzhou) for 7 april to 10th apr and MH offers rm860 net and AK was rm930!! Similiarly did a check from KUL to Melbourne on 30th June and MH was rm1,700 whereas AK is rm1,650 !! What's happening to Air Asia X as their fares are now totally uncompetitive as a budget carrier with tight seating. Even Emirates offer is only rm1,670
  25. first thing although very "minbor" to him and not even notice it - is to wash and clean up MH planes esp the 330s and 777s - their fuselage is often dirty esp towards the back section and around the tail section. just saw another dirtied 330 last fri. it doesn't give passengers a good feeling to see its planes like haven't been wash and cleaned for a long time - although it is not a safety issue.
