  1. with just 15 A333s and 4 leased A350s in 2017 to replace the A380s, MAS will become a very small player even in the regional market. Khazanah and the govt might as well just shut MAS down completely instead of even having to come u with another few billion dollars to keep such a small airline fleet. Air Asia fleet size incl AAX would already be more than 2 times the size of MAS. And with this restructuring and its limited fleet of aircraft MAS would basically be competing with AK/AAX in the regional market and this will not bore well with MAS.
  2. for the night flights out of KUL with Emirates would mean a ungodly transit in the early morning in Dubai and there would not be any direct flights. In this tie-up Emirates clearly would be the winner as this arrangement also see Emirates using its own aircarft and MAS will just be like an "agent earning a small commission on the seats sold" on its western routes except LHR. This leaves MAS with just 15 A333s for its regional routes, and 6 A380s with 4 of them being active for its LHR runs. MAS fleet would be fairly small even compared to Air Asia X. With such a small fleet of 15 A333s and 4 leased A350s in 2017 (to replace the A380s), MAS will not even be a makor regional player in the market.
  3. MAS would be left with just one european city ie London. This would effectively cut MAS down to a regional Asia and australasia carrier and may not be good for MH in the medium run. Note that Emirates also fly from Dubai to KUL and that it can fly in with more A380s to carry the pax wholly instead of of sharing with MH on code-sharing basis too. And with the new CEO mentioning that Australia would not be a core for MH as its "saturated and limited growth", one wonders what will become of MAS in future.
  4. Do not see Scoot making any profits for some years to come. Although it has transitioned to a all 787 fleet, but it has to pay very much more for the aircrafts - as Scoot was operating then the old fully paid up 772s from its parent SIA. Secondly do not see how Scoot can even take on all its 20 aircrafts in the next 3 years or so as it is not possible for scoot to grow the destinations. These 787s were ordered originally by SIA which changed its mind and "transfer" all these 787s to Scoot. It's financially difficult to start a low cost airline with brand new state of the art 787 aircrafts which cost over USD200 million.
  5. there's no need to spend a few hundred or billion on building another new terminal. The existing MTB and satellite at KLIA is still adequate and in fact under-used now since KLIA2 started operations. What is needed is a major revamp of the existing KLIA to make it look modern and updated and esp to have more light coming in.
  6. from the very first day that MAS decided it will buy the A380 - is more of a "grandeaur thing" that our southern neighbor have ordered it and hence MAS must have it too - rather than a purely business need and or whether there have been a in dept business study into it. Even when it did get the dugongs, it could be seen as struggling to have enough passengers to fill it. And finally now the reality comes in albeit much too late and the market for used A380s is non existent.
  7. it's not like the whole engine separated from the wing - it's just the last part of the No 3 engine that separated or abt 1/3 of the engine.
  8. surprise that LH cannot even sustain daily KUL-FRA when MH is going to terminate the service - is that so poort loads on this sector?
  9. dont think Mueller is right - SIA is doing very well in Australia for many years and is still and is very well recieved by aussies and one may be hard pressed even to get a seat despite their 4 times services from SIn to like mel and syd. And by the same toke, doesnt Mueller thinh that the ME3 are not expanding into China and NE??
  10. The main thing is what happens when MAS is unable to find any takers for its 6 A380s as todate even the 2 supposed to be leased remains in doubt and with no takers, what will MAS do with the 6 frames as obviously they cant afford to leave it parked and service the payments and that MAS have already signed up to lease 4 A359s to replace the A380s to LHR. At the same time believed Thai sell its also trying to get rid of its 6 A380s,and Airbus still have 2 skymark frames unsold.
  11. then why would they need the 4 A359s for? and another 2 on option plus a A330neo?
  12. The refurbished 772s will only be used for less than 2 years before the 4 A359s comes into service - which is kind of financially "wasteful" and MAS should have done it much earlier to make economical use of the cabin retrofits. But any refurbishment upgrade will be good for the passengers in the interim.
  13. believed Perth is a good destination and MAS should not reduce or stop the service as there are lietrally thousands of Malaysian families and students there - and if MAS stop for a few years to recoup, by then other airlines like AK and even Malindo will be entrenched and MAS will find it even harder to go back to Perth. Or as is there's already few airlines ex s'pore like SQ which flies there few times daily and budget carriers like tiger and jetstar and scoot. MAS will lose out in this lucrative route direct from KUL.
  14. Malindo's 738/739 seats pitch are much better than MAS 738s at 32"
  15. oh MAS will lease 4 A350-900 from Air Lease Corp to be delivered in 2017 and 2018, and includes options for 2 more A359s and 2 A330-900 neo. dont think SQ traded in the A380s for other aircrafts - as SQ actually ordered think 5 more A380s, to replace its earlier built A380s in the next few years as the first of its A380 is 9 plus years old.
  16. Question is also what are they going to do with the 6 A380s - as now they only need 4. But it will be expensive to hold on to just 4 planes given the high maintenance and personnel costs to just service these 4 or even 6, and the spares esp holding the spare engines. Seems no airlines wanted any used A380s
  17. its best to work for Scoot flying its new 787s or with SQ as fristly s'pore is very close and just a 40 min hop to go back on yr off days and the sin$ is now 3 times that of rm. ME is still a 7.5 hours flight away and not possible to go back often and living there is not exaclty that great esp in the long hot wave of summer where temp goes beyond 40C
  18. SQ does have enough pax and traffic from Indonesia and even Malaysia on its previous direct to US flights as their load factors are good and in their high 80s. It's just that any aircraft used takes on too much fuel for the 19 hours flight plus reserves and hence the actual profit margin is razor thin.
  19. SIA's previous non-stop fligthe flights to the US were just breakeven or just slightly above breakeven only and hardly contribute much to its profitability and just operating with 5 aircrafts. Believed the reason why SQ is trying to do these non stop flights is bec SIN and US have open air traffic rights between the 2 countries and can have as many flights as it wants - but SQ do not have such 5th freedom rights on its non-stop flights. However due to the long flights hours, it doesn't look like any real profit making routes in the near future until aircraft manufacturers can have a aircraft that can do a 19 hour flight hours for much more less fuel consumption that what is at present even given the A350s and 787 series.
  20. if rename - just called it 'MALAYSIAN". That would be good and anyway its known as "Malaysian" by flight controllers all over.
  21. not sure if its really profitable to run the A380s for haj charters - and esp for its premium seats.
  22. but imagine bot only to Aussie, but even to HK, MAS cannot sustain a wide-body load and will use the smaller and cramped 738s.
  23. CH just mentioned that MAS now need more "smaller-sized" planes and that will mean that MH is unlikely to lease the bigger 777-300ERs in the interim and I suppose to save money MH still could make do with their current 772s - but it would be best that the current cabins be refurbished to look modern. Seems then if its a smaller medium to long haul aircraft, then the 787-9 would be a better opetion than the slightly bigger A350.
